It's possible. It's just really expensive and his family cut him off. It's easier for him to wear masks. It's also just not on the front of his mind anymore. At most, it just means he has to chew on the right side of his face and can't use straws. He doesn't really have trouble speaking.

I FOUND A SHIP NAME FOR MY PKMN OCs, LEO AND VOLT!

ELECTRICSUNSETSHIPPING! Because I based Leo's design on the sunset, and Volt is an electric type specialist. Their names were too bland for me to make any interesting ship names, and I wanted to match the energy of most pkmn ships. I like it a lot!

Me rambling about them under the cut bcuz I realized this is my account and I can ramble about my OCs if I want 👇

In the story, their relationship starts off as Leo being incredibly confused by Volt because he does a lot of weird shit and makes a lot of weird shit without thinking about it. Leo, being himself and not understanding when he's being rude or not, would go aoing with it out of sheer curiosity while also pointing out everything wrong with what he was doing. Volt would get annoyed and then try to make things or do things that would impress Leo so he could "finally make something that Leo could be impressed by." It turns into a weird version of a crush bcuz Volt has a track record of mistaking attraction for annoyance, and then hyperfixate on impressing that person. Queue Leo and Volt working together often and Volt being passive aggressive while also admiring him a lot, and Leo doesn't notice or care because he has the emotional intelligence and people skills of a wet sponge. Surprisingly, Volt's strangeness aorks, bcuz Leo does think the things Volt makes and what he researches is interesting and he finds excuses to go visit the center's shared lab (where Volt is most often) to talk to him.

The two do end up getting assigned a mission together to investigate some weird happenings in a cave that they think could be connected to Area Zero. It was the first time they were able to spend extended time alone together (with Volt still on his silly shit, but he also got a tyanmo out of it, so it's fine). They find some weird research labs there, which they're not fully sure about, but they realize it causes the pokemon there to go frenzied. Leo doesn't know much about mechanics and engineering, but Volt does, and he was able to figure out how to work the complicated machine and figure out what was causing the pokemon to go frenzied - a microchip of some sorts that was emitting weird aura. They bring it back to the lab and Leo, despite not knowing what it is, helps him bcuz he likes heating what Volt has to say about it. I wouldn't say this is the moment they became friends, but it is when they started being a lot more friendly to each other and Volt stopped with passive aggressiveness. The two become closer and bond over nerdy science shit, with Leo telling Volt about pokemon biology, history, and folklore, and Volt telling Leo about different mechanical stuff. Volt becomes more obvious with his crush, but Leo doesn't take the hints bcuz, again, his people skills and emotional intelligence are that of a wet sponge.

Their relationship was inspired by Cecil and Carlos from WTNV, but like a swapped version of it. I thought the idea of a character having an obvious crush on a first-person protagonist who doesn't even notice could be funny. They were also inspired by Perceptor and Brainatorm from MTMTE, if it wasn't already obvious enough

Volt likes Leo because he thinks he's cool and he wants to impress him, but also bcuz most people who spoke to him in his life did so as if it was a chore and Leo actively chooses to listen to him and his ideas without berating him or calling him crazy or stupid. He also likes that Leo is willing to share his ideas with him and they can build on ideas together.

Leo likes Volt because he doesn't feel like he has to hide parts of who he is and can ramble about things he finds interesting and they can both piece things together like a puzzle. He's also vaguely attracted to people who are a bit insane, but it happens to the best of us 🤷‍♂️

Basically: nerdy egghead shit combined with neurodivergant trauma. I'm gonna bully them <3

Species Spotlight: Vakints

Vakints are a (sometimes) sapient species in Voyage of the Réaltra. The species are made entirely of Reaval - an energy force present in the Réaltra that can do many things, even create life. They are a species made to do and complete various tasks. They are held together by a talisman that their reaval is stored in and connected to. If that item is broken, the vakint dies. The only way for a vakint to die is if their talisman is broken.

Vakints were originally made thousands of years ago by a sapient species known as Arachnidians- a bipedal spider-like species, and the species that Lohkey is. Before their talismans expanded, the primary talisman of a vakint was a mask due to the religion of arachnidians having them wear masks. Vakints were eventually discovered by Solairveahl and the Réaltra Empire, and they have become advertised as obecjects that will do whatever you tell them with unquestioning loyalty. Vakints are seen more as objects than people.

Vakints are immortal but they age faster. When created, they have the body and mentality of a three year old, so their physical age is three years behind their mental age. Ex; a 23 year old vakint is physically and mentally closer to a 26 year old human.

Vakints don't have genitals or sex organs and can't reproduce. Virtually all vakints are asexual and aromatic. Phantom is grayace and alloromantic because he is strange

Vakints can look like anything and csn have any level of sapience. Their appearance and level of sapience are determined by the DNA that is used to create them.

They're born emotionless but, the more they develop and age, the more emotions they gain

Metal Vakints

Stone vakints and metal vakints are vakints created with the DNA of vachrosians - a rock/crystal like sapient species. In the beginning, these vakints resemble golems and were only made of stone but, as technology got better, the Realtra Empire started editing the DNA of these vakitns to be more steel-like, which astarted making them look more robot-like. These vakints have became known as “metal vakints.” Their predecessors, stone vakints, are seen as outdated by the Realtra Empire. Radi is an example of a metal vakint (though she has other DNA as well).

Species Spotlight: Solairveahl

Solairveahl (pronounced, "sol-air-veh-all", singular; "solairve", pronounced, "Sol-air-vee"), are a sapient, winged, avian/mammalian species native the planet known as Avirus. They were the original worshippers of Revira and were the first members of the Réaltra Empire, and they also hold most social and political power throughout the Réaltra Empire. Solairveahl are tall - averaging at around 6 ft, and they have primarily bright colors. There are many different subspecies of solairveahl. The most prominent subspecies are lunairveahl - descendants of solairve that emigrated to a planet known as Syibres and have developed to be smaller, have darker/cooler colors, and larger eyes. They look more like owls or other nocturnal birds.

Phantom, Venture, and Radi all have Solairve DNA. Eliora and Honorah take the form of solairve, and Kaireign takes the form of a solairve hybrid.

Voyage of the Réaltra

Voyage of the Réaltra is a personal story I'm working on. It's a sci-fi story about an alien boy named Phantom (exact species is called "vakint") who was created to destroy the ruler of the Réaltra Empire, Revira. He trained his whole life for the moment, but after an attack on his home planet from the empire, he was put in stasis and his body was sent to a remote part of the Réaltra. He awoke a hundred years later after being found by another vakint known as Venture. While his mission is not complete and many people are counting on him, Phantom would much rather forget about that and do his own thing now that he's officially on his own. Sadly, running away from responsibilities put upon you is difficult when the entire empire and your old allies are on the hunt for you...

I have way to many world building and character stuff I wanna share that lays in my Google drive. Expect that later bcuz it also gives some context for characters. I wanna make this a webcomic at some point, but until then, I'm fine with drawing and planning rn :)

Here's the main cast. I call them the Ghost Light Crew.

Phantom

Phantom (he/him) is the protagonist of the story. He is the symbol of the Varinox - the main faction against the Réaltra Empire (whether he likes it or not). Phantom is very theatrical when he speaks and is also very arrogant. Since he was trained be a ruthless killer, his moral compass is in the drain, and he often butts-heads with Venture, who tries to keep him in line.

(Second drawing for him is outdated, but I loge the expression).

My voice claim for him is Blake Roman.

Venture

Venture (he/him) is the one that awoken Phantom. He is also a vakint. Like with many vakints in modern day, Venture was made by the Réaltra Empire to serve them. Before he met Phantom, he resided at an abandoned archive on the planet known as Avirus (the capital planet of the Réaltra Empire). He is smart, curious, and empathetic, but he is often stressed as he is the one who keeps everyone on the Ghost Light Crew in line.

My voice claim for him is Zach Callison.

Radi

Radi (pronounces "ray-dee", she/they/it) is the third (and final) vakint member of the Ghost Light Crew. She has the DNA of both a solairve (bird-like species that most characters here have the DNA of) and a vachrosian (rock-like humanoid species but different because she's a metal vakint. I'll talk about those in a later post). She is the original owner of the Ghost Light spaceship - which Phantom stole from her.

Radi was also created by the Réaltra Empire to work as a walking satellite/radio system and a servant. Sadly, because her vachrosian DNA was stronger than her solairve DNA, she was unable to form words (vachrosians can only make whale noises), and they believed she couldn't do her job well because she is blind. She was then abandoned with her spaceship left to orbit Avirus.

Despite what the Réaltra Empire says, Radi is able to "see" via seismic sensing and her radio signal abilities, which allows her to pick up and sense objects much better than a solairvean (all vachrosian traits). Radi works as the Ghost Light's navigator since and ship's maintenance because she is the only one with experience with machines. Radi is very curious and also very matter-of-fact. She and Phantom become close friends.

I don't have a voice claim for them because they don't speak in tangible words thar we can pronounce.

Kaireign

Kaireign (pronounced "Kai-rain", they/them), also sometimes called Blue by the rest of the crew, is the self-proclaimed protector of those who have been harmed by the Réaltra Empire some way, all while staying hidden. Despite their secrecy and despite the fact that they're known for their rather violent methods when it comes to dealing with those who work for Revira, they have become a symbol of hope for the Varinox and those who oppose the Empire. They are a Lunalite Guardian, though their appearance is a hybrid of a solairvean and a nayaindian. They're also not an official member since their residence there is spotty, but Phantom likes them enough to call them a member
