Even if there was nobody seemed like they were around to really enforce such a pointless thing in the first place. Because if anyone was they were doing a pretty terrible job considering how casually the doll held her rocket launcher around. If she knew things would be that easy Architect would've brought along a little bit more stuff to see how much chaos she could rack up in a few minutes...

"Ah but who really cares. Trying to get off right as we make the stop? Probably smart if you wanna beat the crowd. Minus the little weirdos that keep pushing and shoving on public transportation of all places..."

"Oh! No, I have my things here," Rika holds up her purse. If she'd had any business to attend to, she might've brought something more, but -- it was still scoping out and job searching. Things she distinctly hadn't missed.

"... Besides! I don't think anyone is really around to enforce that, even if I did. You've caught me there, though. I'm also not overfond of being out too late," Rika says, looping her purse back over her shoulder and holding her hands up. Guilty as charged!

"Sometimes it's riskier to get off the minute the doors open, but the other possibility is getting blocked from taking off at all! So, early bird it is. Is the next stop yours, too?"

｢𓆄｣ "I'm laaate!" There was no time for pleasantries as he was rushing in and past Rika, a feather rushing past her to fetch him an apron in a frenzy.

"Sorry, sorry, this isn't exactly a good show of my character, being late for a volunteering opportunity! But, I'm the guy they stuck with you today!" His demeanor read too relaxed as he hopped right on over the counter, tying off the apron.

"Name's Hawks, who might I have the pleasure in serving the locale with today, chickadee?"

Almost instinctively, Rika steps aside to let the -- feather? -- past, like it was a whole ass person and not just a feather. Still! A neat trick. She'll remember that.

"It's a terrible display! But thankfully, I believe in second chances," Rika teases, mirroring the young man by tightening her own apron and putting her hands on her hips. "Lucky you, though! You just missed our first rush, so it's just prep work for now -- Hawks, is it?"

She hums at the name. So many different, varied names in the world, and her foster mother had tried to stick her with Serena.

"My name is Rika! All jokes aside, it's a pleasure to have you on board. Is this your first time volunteering?" It's a fair question, she thinks.

Mira was beginning on trying to work one of them out of her hair, giving it a small tug without having much effect when before she's hearing footsteps approaching her. Fingers pause in it's tugging as she's shifting her gaze towards the woman, blinking as she's holding up a jar of something.

At the question, her eyes dart back up to her face as Mira shakes her head, now guessing that the jar had this 'coconut' in it. So these things had gotten to her as well before? Just how long as these things been causing such.. Was chaos the right word?

"Hopefully it does not take the fully two hours to get them all out of my hair but-"

Mira starts to say, before a marshmallow smacks her right in the side of the face, making her pause with a small noise of confusion coming from her and look in the direction it came from, eyebrows furrowing.

"No- I am not allergic to coconut... Should we move elsewhere before I accept your aid? I'd hate for you to start working on it, for them to undo any work you may get done?"

"Oh, the earlier you take care of it, the better off you'll be." Rika clicks her tongue against the roof of her mouth in disappointment, though none of it directed at the young lady. "Really, I know our kidnappers love to cause trouble, but this is too much."

Rika's standards were ever so slightly skewed.

"Yes, yes, if we can duck inside a building or into another ward, we should be safe until -- whatever thing is responsible for these menaces is over." Rika loops her arm into Mira's, trying to find a place they can hide out in.

❍ "Sorry, not interested." Cloud wouldn't normally step foot in a music store. There had been the whole CD collection stint in Midgar, but he wasn't the type of guy to buy CDs normally. Yet he found himself flipping through what was available beside a woman that was using a pair of headphones. Was it for listening to music in the store?

She seemed to gesture to him that she'd let him use them if he wanted. He didn't. He was about to walk away when he paused.

"Actually. Know anything good here? Something a woman in her 20s would listen to? I've got a friend. Birthday's coming up."

"A-ha, so our intrepid hero comes crawling back, does he?" Rika grins at the other blond, sliding the headphones off her ears and around her neck, before giggling a little.

"Just kidding! But really, you won't get anywhere with your friend if you go for the most common denominator." Rika pulls off the headphones fully, replacing them on their hook, and flips her hair off her shoulders.

"Us girls do like to feel special, you know!" Rika's grin turns a little more cheshire-like, mischievous, before her expression returns to something more neutral.

"... And anyway, I love listening to musicals, which are really hit or miss. So! Tell me about your friend, what's she like? We can find something together."

There are people like her who is unbothered by the biting cold of Winter, but there are others out there who aren't so lucky. Corvus isn't sure where this lady falls in, but she's not about to just sit around and find out.

"Here, put this on." Some things just don't change. That paternal instinct is with her through and through as she holds out a scarf for the lady to take.

It's a little off putting to receive rather than give, Rika has to admit. But considering her scarf had fallen into a canal in the Archimedes ward, well -- she wasn't in much a position to decline the generosity.

"Was my shivering that noticeable? Thank you," Rika says as she wraps the scarf around her neck, nestling into it as she immediately feels much warmer for it. "What do I owe you and what's your name, my knight in shining armor?"

it was a little lonely. normally he would get a bit annoyed that the constellations were always vying for his attention...it's just bit quieter now. kim dokja almost misses them (almost).

but getting attention from someone now? gosh...he was really thinking about how this place was a vacation. now random people just come up to you? he felt those eyes as soon as he came out of this random shop...geez what could this person want right now?

"sorry i'm not interested in what you're trying to sell." yeah that'll get them.

The corner of Rika's mouth twitches in annoyance before she collects herself, her grip on her clipboard briefly white-knuckled.

"I'm not trying to sell anything, promise! I'm actually looking to get participants for a community garden in the Fibonacci ward -- if we have enough people interested, we could potentially have a greenhouse built, and I think it'd be a fantastic opportunity to bring neighbors together." Rika beams at the stranger, holding out her clipboard and a pen.

"... And I have seen you in the neighborhood, haven't I?"

Oliver is stuffing his face with the goodies he's got from different vendors. He must look real gluttonous to have so much food stacked around him.

He notices he's got someone's eye.

"What?" he asks with his mouthed stuff.

"I can't help it. I'm a growing boy!"

Ah, how embarrassing. She's gotten caught staring. There are worse things, she supposes, but she's not exactly being polite. Still, she takes out a napkin she'd stuffed in a clean pocket of her purse for emergencies, deciding the smudge of food she saw on the boy's face.

"Oh, no, you don't need to feel sheepish about the amount of food you're eating," Rika quickly corrects, taking a few steps forward as she shakes the napkin out, allowing it to mostly unfold before holding it out to the boy. "But, here -- there's just a little spot at the corner of your mouth."

hannibal prides himself for the ability of reading someone like an open book even when devoid of conversation. it's partially what makes him a skilled therapist - to be able to dig deep between the lines, into the looks, the actions of another is valuable.

the stranger at the same bookstore as him has an air to her - hannibal can't quite put a finger on it and won't pretend to, but it's a presentiment strong enough to convince him to approach her.

" hello, " his head bows forward, polite.

" do you have any book recommendations? " he puts plainly, hands united behind his back: if the eyes are the windows to the soul, the words they willingly read and trace should tell him more about her.

There's the appearance of Rika being fully enveloped in the book she's reading - poor manners, maybe, to do so before paying, but she isn't terribly far in despite how still she stands. Her posture is almost perfectly straight, legs together, and her hands are clean, nails manicured. Her clothing (a plain light blue cardigan, a plain white blouse, a plain spring green knee length skirt) however, are slightly wrinkled, possibly from a busy day --

And it's something she seems to catch, as once the stranger addresses her, she carefully slides a bookmark near the inside of the spine, closes the book, tucks it under her arm, and attempts to smooth out her skirt.

"Oh! That's a good question," Rika says, flipping some of her hair back with the back of her palm now that she's satisfied with the condition of her skirt. "What sort of books do you normally read? Or are you hoping for a ... spontaneous pick? Feet on the ground, out of the blue, something you'd never normally read?" She grins, every bit as cheery as a woman like her might be.

"This one, specifically," Rika holds up the book with both hands, displaying the cover -- Mystery House is what it's called, "Is about this house -- I know what you're going to think, first thought is Home of Leafs, but no, I never finished that one so I can't recommend it in good faith -- but this woman feels like there are spirits who want to harm her, and the only way to keep them at bay is to continually add onto her house. Doors leading to two story drops, stairs leading nowhere, a hallway that ends up circling back to itself." The book is tucked back under Rika's arm, safe and sound.

"It isn't very clear whether or not the woman is at any risk, and the author seems to swap perspectives pretty often, but it isn't bad so far. If nothing else, I'll have to give a solid review once I've taken it home and finished it. Oh, what else..." Rika taps her foot, curled hand near her chin as she contemplates the man in front of her. "There's this one, The Castle We Have Always Lived In that I particularly like. -- Oh, a lot about homes and houses I suppose, but I blame that on an architecture read." She gives an easy shrug, smile still plastered on her face. Her eyes seem to scan over the man, trying to get a read on him.

His head titled to the side, screen pulsating with an imaginary breath sucked in through nonexistent teeth. It had been a while he had gotten any real bite back from someone. "No," he spat back. "I have nothing to share with the likes of you." AM thought to escalate the situation, perhaps push this smiling woman into traffic or throttle her into silence. Then, perhaps, she wouldn't be so perky.

Except...he had only just learned to walk, what, a few hours ago? When he flexed his fingers, they responded with intermittent strength, not near enough to close firmly around a throat. His legs were beginning to exhibit a slight tremor, forcing him to lean on the stronger wires that cascaded off his body. No, it was better to play a careful strategy here, especially on foreign terr—

"Beach?" He interrupted her mid-sentence, screen visibly brightening. Having been created in a land-locked state, AM had never had the privilege of even being close to a large body of water until he had eaten the world thoroughly through. Then there was always water at his control: fresh, salt, distilled, acid, you name it!

He had still never seen the ocean before.

AM lurched forward, closing the distance between them in half a step, tips of his claws feet peeking through the skirt of loose wires. "Show me," he demanded and reach out to grasp at her upper forearm. "Show me, er, whatever your name is. Since you must know your way around this place," he practically purred, scratchy voice suddenly gone smooth like honey. "You're a regular here!"

After the machine's fit — she wasn't sure what else to call it — Rika was left only with the distinct impression that he hadn't heard a thing she'd said after the word 'beach.' If he had, he certainly wasn't interested in the rest of it. Which would have been all fine and dandy, and Rika's placated expression wouldn't have shifted at all —

Except he grabbed her arm. There was a flash of panic, menace, and anger in her eyes until the moment passed, and it became clear that holding her arm was all he was doing. For now. She sucked in air, eyes closed for a brief moment before she nodded, smile back on her face and stretching her other features. She was too distracted by the sudden physical contact to pay attention to much else, and so that the bottom half of his body wasn't just wires completely escaped her.

"You must work on how you convince people to do things for you," Rika replied, a little snarky. "Fortunately for you, however, I've already run my errands for the day and my social calendar is otherwise cleared for the afternoon. So, I'll be charitable and show you the way over."

That was because she had no friends here, but that wasn't something the computer needed to know nor a topic she was keen on visiting.

"… However, if you want me to guide you to the beach, you will have to let go of my arm. Unless you need someone to help you cross the street?" Rika batted her eyelashes playfully, characteristic venom laced between much sweeter words.

It's a slow day, the weather's been so cold most folks don't want to leave their homes. Which means he's gotten all the food orders finished after inventory early, made a few phone calls and answered some emails and filtered through applications, and he's left with not much else to do. The front looks spotless already, because his employees used one of the many lulls in activity during the day to do some cleaning.

He sends one at front of house on her break as he goes to sort through their new arrival of donated books. The shelves need a little reorganizing to begin with, people do love to just not put the books back the same spot they found them...

"Huh? Oh, yeah, 'course." The small woman had been one of their first customers today after a long lull, and he didn't recognize her among their regulars. He didn't take her order, but he'd made a mental note of her—like he does with everyone new that comes in.

Wolfwood places a stack of new books down on one table and, big and tall as he is, reaches up and pulls the book she'd been straining to reach with ease. He would have offered if she didn't ask, anyway.

It's held out to her. "Here ya go, ma'am. Makin' me realize I oughta get some ladders by the shelves soon."

Pretty hard for him to forget not everyone's as tall as he is, but there's still things he doesn't often account for when it comes to height. Like... reaching things on tall shelves. Well, the trade-off is having to awkwardly fold himself when he needs to reach something real low.

"No offense meant."

A little bit of laughter escapes Rika as she shakes her head, some of her hair falling in her face as she does.

"No offense taken! I'd considered bringing over one of the chairs to give myself a little lift, but that seemed inappropriate — and knowing my luck, I'd just end up falling, anyway. Thank you," Rika replies, taking the book gingerly and holding it to her chest, while she runs her other hand through her hair to pull the errant strands back into place. She beams at the taller man pleasantly, and while the way she stares is a little odd, her demeanor is perfectly relaxed.

"This is quite the collection you have, though! I don't think I've seen this many books outside of a library — or, well, that and private collections, but books kept in private collections are a different story entirely," she continues, giving another look around the building with its ceiling-high, densely packed shelves, then behind him to the stack he'd just set down, before returning her glance his way.

"Are these all yours? Not that it'd be a bad thing, mind — it was never my thing, but in my line of work I've met more than one person who loves to collect books!"
