âIâve brought up some snacks!â Bridget said, unveiling a tray of goods.
âThatâs lovely, Bridget,â Chloe said, coughing awkwardly into her hand. She stood up from the bed and quickly walked over to her. âThank you so much.â
Red glanced at them from the bed, but was too overwhelmed to move. It wasnât long before Chloe returned to her side with a sweet treat in her hands.
âAre you sure we can trust this?â Red whispered to Chloe, eyeing the sweet treat suspiciously.
Chloe shrugged. âIâm starving,â Chloe murmured. âIâll take the risk.â
Red watched with curosity as Chloe lifted the chocolate brownie to her mouth and took a slow bite of it. Red eyed Bridget, who was now standing in front of them with a tray full of baked goods in her hands. Red was surprised at the array of goods sheâd never seen before. She remembered hearing murmurs about âsweetâ, colourful treats from unsuspecting guards when she was younger, but her mother had strictly forbidden her from having any. This âBridgetâ seemed more than happy to share out sweet treats, however. The pink-hair girl was smiling brightly at Chloe as she ate the treat.
âMmm, this is delicious, Bridget!â Chloe hummed, chewing the treat as she spoke. Suddenly, her eyebrows raised and she let out a moan of delight. âOh my gosh, is thatâŚ?â
âPopping candy?â Bridget finished, grinning. She let out a little giggle and clapped her hands happily. âYes! Itâs a Wonderland tradition to put popping candy in sweet treats. It acts as an extra surprise!â
âItâs amazing!â Chloe said, swallowing down her bite of brownie before immediately going in for another. âDid you make these?â
Bridget nodded with a big smile. âYes! I made them this morning!â
âWhen did you find the time?â Red asked, raising a brow. âI thought you had princess duties to attend to?â
Bridget laughed politely and shrugged. âI just⌠get up really early and do it in the morning!â
Red thought about her mother and how, growing up, she would barely spend any time away from her duties as Queen. No matter how much Red begged, the Queen would prioritise her job over everything. Would this Bridget choose to spend time executing people over spending time with her daughter? Red would guess not.
I wish I had more of this chapter written but my life has been hectic recently omg. I'm about 2k words in so there won't be an update until at least next week. But, I think it'll be an interesting read for sure.
Also I haven't set a number of chapters on the fic yet bc I don't want to get ahead of myself or anything, but given the trajectory for the story I have in mind, it will be at least over 15 chapters. Probably more like 20 but I don't wanna jinx it so we'll see.
