Cervantes developed many genres throughout his life, including theater, poetry and novels.

The novel gave him the most fame: El Ingenioso Hidalgo Don Quijote de La Mancha

In the book, Cervantes narrates a life of  man who loses his mind because of reading too much. The protagonist, Don Quijote calls himself a knight, and convinces his neighbor Sancho to follow him on a journey to find glory, so he and his Lady Dulcinea (who in fact is not real) can become the nobility of the society. His adventure as a knight begin in La Mancha, where fights against many imaginary enemies (for example, the windmills).
