“It’d be better than sitting on our hands until they force us into cells.”
“Ain’t that the truth. How’ve you been?”
“I say our biggest problem here has less to do with registration and more to do with how we’re cowering from the world.”
“So you think we should make a straight forward attack? I would be interested.”
“Look, buddy, just stick to Storm. She like almost blew up the atmosphere that one time you died.” [ uh, that hasn’t happened here. ] fourthwall break, fuck yeah. “Oh, fuck. Goddammit, I can never tell what’s happened where.”
“What is your problem, Wade?”
“RIGHT IN THE NOGGIN!! Hey, Logan, buddy, could you move just like an inch to the left, scratch right there on the frontal lobe, you’d be a real champ. Honestly, didn’t realize you were still crushing. Did she get you anything for Valentines day? You know I bet they’ve got some really great X-man meme cards floating around on the internet. Her kid’s with Scott though, right? That’s gotta be a real bummer, let me know if you need a shoulder to cry on, I’m here pal.”
“Rachel’s from an alternate dimension. She’s not... she might not always happen.”
“Sure, yeah we’ll go with that. I know, I saw that. Because killing the entire X-Men team the first time clearly wasn’t enough. Everyone’s allowed their mental breakdowns, Jean but it’s just not cool to kill everyone with them.”
“I will kill you. You don’t get to say shit about her.”
“Damn it Logan, this is why we always hit a rough patch, you’ve got no fucking patience. I’m here for personal shit……——Fury and I are having an affair. I’m sorry it had to come out like this.”
“Is that your way of saying that you registered? Cause I’m still trying to deal with the fact that Jean just came back to life. Well.. kind of.”
“Aw, that’s so sweet but Valentines day was last week. Day late and a dollar short, huh snuggy bear? That’s okay, I forgive you, we’ll try again next year.”
“Are you ever going to say what you came here for?”
“well i just couldn’t stay away, sugar plum. you know our love is eternal.”
“Get to the point before I cut your heart out and feed it to you.”
“oh you know. a private island, a personal chef that specializes in chimichangas, you to bathe now and then, oh and maybe an itching cream? you know there’s this spot way down undah—–” he winked, hinting at an australian accent “if ya catch my drift. so the usual.”
“Jesus. Why did you come here?”
“There’s nothing like getting ripped through time by your kind of daughter and learning that you killed your friends in the future all within a week.”
“So I guess that Rachel told you?”
“Chat, siesta, it’s all the same. Right, bub?”
“What do you want, Wade?”
“I can’t blame them. It’s weird. It’s really, really weird. I have to talk to Rachel. Have you asked her why she pulled us forward yet? She’s being secretive too, but I’m going to try and get it out of her.” Jean leaned back, the small smile staying on her lips. “Really? That’s amazing. I want to be able to help people with my powers, not just hear random thoughts. Maybe I’ll pick up some about what happened soon. Kitty’s mind is pretty well blocked off, and so is Ororo’s. Not that I’ve been trying to read them or anything.” She paused. “Thank you, Logan. That would be great. I need to get a hold on this before it gets out of hand.”
“Well she never really told me why she brought you through.” He stated simply as he looked at her. “She told me that she had, and then told me about it, a good three days or so after.” He explained, completely honestly. “Well, my mind’s been rather messed up for a while, but you helped me a lot. And most people here are kind of used to telepaths by now.” He said with a smile as he looked at her. “I’d do anything to help you.”
“It’s nice to know that I wasn’t crazy then.” She chuckled. “But that’s also nice to know. We’re going to need that around here. Everyone looks like they’ve seen a ghost, which, maybe they have. I feel like I’m going to lose my mind. Did older me have this telepathy thing down?”
“Well to be totally fair, most people around here never thought they would see you or any of the rest of the team ever again.” He stated with a slight smile, as he looked at her, allowing his eyes to rest on hers. “She got really good at it. She helped me... find things I had forgotten. If you ever wanted a test subject, I’m available. But I would try and help make sure you didn’t bump into some places you didn’t want to see.”
She was silent for a second as he changed the subject, mind moving and thinking as she considered his words. “Close? I suppose so. There wasn’t too many of us around. Sometimes it seemed like you were far from interested in any of us and didn’t want to be there, but I knew you had our backs.” It was weird that he wouldn’t look at her, but she propped her head up on a hand and shrugged her other shoulder. “Right. I remember that much.”
He smiled as he looked back at her. “Well, I suppose you’re right about at least part of that. I might not have liked all of y’all too much, but I did have your backs. And I still have the backs of everyone who’s round here.” He stated with a slight smile. “I’ll have your back through thick and thin, red.”
“erik was……well he just sort of happened but yeah the whole team. she’ll probably know the next time i talk to her, she’s already losing her patience and it’s not like it’s a secret that she did it whole inhabited by the phoenix.” rachel murmured. as he speaks again she physically keeps herself from rolling her eyes, she’s not irritated just——it’s kinda obvious. at least to her. “right, well, she’s around here somewhere. she’s younger though, logan. like eighteen.”
Logan frowned as he looked at her. “It’s not right to allow some to come back and not all of them, so Erik is a necessary addition.” He stated simply, his thoughts going back to the times he met Erik when he was younger. “I need to talk with Chuck soon though, get him acquainted with what has been happening.” He thought aloud. “I meant that our highest priority has to be to find a way to train her without letting the Phoenix steal her from us again.”
“I can’t think about that right now. I should probably adjust to this timeline before I even consider anything else. I like the idea of a clean slate though. I don’t think those come very often.” She smiled slightly as she and Logan made eye contact, just because it was nice to comfortable for a second. Jean had been on edge since they had arrived and rightfully so. It wasn’t every day you ended up in a different time and found out you were dead. Logan felt normal though, and he was one of the only things that did. Even Kitty was different. “What are the theories then? We were mutants and we screwed up? It must have been difficult, what with Charles and us gone. I’m sorry you had to go through that.”
“A clean slate can be a blessing. That’s one thing I know. Well then, let’s talk about um.. other things. Brighter things. Were you and I... close?” He asked as he looked at her, honestly curious as he knew how he had felt about her, but he could never know about how she had felt about him. With a look away, Logan frowned and took a sip of his beer. “It was alright. I’ve been through a lot.”
“i haven’t been able to talk to ororo so no, i don’t think she does.” rachel replies, crossing her arms. “and yeah, everyone else is totally fine too, i know they’re high on your list of concerns.” she adds, arching a brow at him and giving a pointed look. “i can’t keep it from her forever. i know my mother and i know that she’ll force it out of me eventually. i guess i’d rather be the one to tell her than have her finding out on her own.”
“So you brought back Chuck, and the team that went out, and Erik?” He asked as he glanced at her. “We need to know everyone who just did a massive time jump. And I would like to see them as soon as possible. Tell her when you want to, but I need to be warned before you do.” He narrowed his eyes as he looked at her. “You know she’s the highest priority right now.”
