What if.... There's man in the world, who wants to take over the world. So he decided to have a movie made. A movie that could become so popular, that everyone would want to see it. He made, Despicable Me. And the minions in the movie were designed to appeal to people of all ages (hence the dirty humor). After testing the waters with the first and second movie, he saw that it was succeeding and all sorts of family and cultures like it(EVEN WESTBoRO BAPTIST CHURCH approves of minions!! Even though they are homosexual creatures!). So now we have all of the worlds attention (also would explain why the minionese language is a mixture of several different languages), the plan is to set in gear the final stage of world domination(evidence: latest movie was about just the minions). Toys, every lover of minions would go get themselves/kids a minion toy, hence, entering your household and family. These toys are products of "I am a learning toy!" Co. Meaning the minion toys are actual evil minions, who're in your home and are LEARNING about your strengths and weaknesses and taking in all the information they need to quickly and efficiently destroy you. More evidence for this would be that in the first movie there was the man with the idea to be evil (Gru) or the master mind in real life. then there was the man who did the work for him (Dr.nefario) (or ken duario, the films writer) and then the minions or toy robots that learn as time goes by.
