Based on the historical moment that Antarctic explorer Ernest Shackleton returned to civilization in 1916, this animation is a color-study and bodily exploration of a true event. During his first week in communication, still faraway from his European home, Shackleton wrote extensively about imagining red battlefields of World War I, all while still staring at the white Antarctic ice. He said, "We were like men arisen from the dead to a world gone mad." In this adjacent war-story, World War I's blood-soaked battlefields are imagined from the serene coastline of a white continent. How does one man's survival intersect with the lives (and deaths) of millions?
