Galerie Knoll, Vienna The exhibition revolves around excerpts from āMinus Twelveā, Robert Smithsonās notes on the qualities of minimal art (1968). All the displayed objects ā artworks, documents and found objects - are related to the āMirageā project (2011- ongoing) by the visual artist Åukasz Jastrubczak and the curator Sebastian Cichocki ā which initially materialized as the book of the same title. It consisted of correspondence between the authors, in the form of a game or āduelā of images and text. Jastrubczakās photographs arose during the artistās journey around the United States, and Cichockiās textual responses (treated as ācuratorial guides and referencesā) were written in Poland and based, in part, on earlier essays by Smithson and other artists active in the 60s and 70s. In response to photographs sent by email, texts arose that were guides for the taking of subsequent photos, and so on. The authors had only 24 hours to respond. The book was then reinterpreted in a series of staged lectures, concerts, public readings, and finally the film "Mirage: In Order of Appearance". The film was shot in the summer of 2014, when the authors decided to go on an American journey in the footsteps of theirs protagonists: the pioneer of green conceptualism John G. Lee, his partner Anna Zaloon and the teenage hitchhiker Mia. Some elements in the exhibitions are cameo appearances by guest artists (including the legendary conceptual artist, Robert Barry), works interwoven into the somehow cinematic sequence of events.

Jan G. Lee was born in Lafayette Hills, California, in 1938. An artist and author of literary texts, he is a forester by education. From 1968 to 1971 he conducted artistic actions (āvisionsā) at Mount Diablo State Park, using natural processes (objects subject to rotting, erosion, melting, crystallization, turning to powder, etc.) and including various species of animals and plants (such as Nestingābirdsā nests made of valuable ores, Poisoningāthe production of vials of emerald-colored poison from the extract of Toxicodendron diversilobum, and Layeringādrawings made by animals walking over cardboard set up near watering holes). In the mid-1980s, in a rented warehouse on the outskirts of town, he began making detailed models and mock-ups of his hometown of Lafayette Hills, along with dolls depicting its residents.
