yes, they would. you're a bit of a dynamite, aren't you? you have a bomb ready to explode instead of a heart, baby. people are drawn to you because you're a hurricane, full of energy, a wild spirit. you know what you like, and you put little pieces of yourself in everything you make, and do. you're talented, passionate. it's like the fire inside you never truly dies- it becomes higher, bigger, hotter. i wonder if someone would be able to turn that into a bonfire. you remind me so much of those scorching hot nights in august, sprawled on the beach, hair sticky and lips salty. you remind me of pretty fireworks exploding in the sky, painting it with each colour of the rainbow. you'd make a great lover, by the way.
The question that came back was so casual as was the smile that followed it. Of course it seemed simple to James. He was so used to coming and going as he pleased. It just usually wasn't at the expense of Wes and certainly not where Wes could watch him be whisked away. "If I had come to see you, I wouldn't have left in the first." He shrugged like it was simple. It wasn't like they were attached at the hip or anything like that. Wes simply expected that when he showed up to his club it was for him, not to bring someone home.
Wesley figured that stranger was still here. It may have played a part in showing up as early as he had. "I'm not bothered." He turns around, pulling out their respective boxes just to busy himself for a second. Facing James again he sighs. "Just didn't think you'd mind if I came by. Assumed he'd be gone by now." At least Wesley wanted the other gone. His explanation wasn't a good one and it certainly something he had any right to want. That hadn't stopped him though.
he had a point. but even so, it wasn't like it was planned. he didn't go out of his way to leave him without saying goodbye. and if he thought about it, it wasn't the first time either. because he left in the past the second his phone went off and it was mi6. so what made this situation any different? because a guy was involved? because he didn't leave for something that mattered, at least in the eyes of wesley. "that's not fair." and his tone shifted in that moment. as if what he wasn't taking seriously before, was now the most serious thing to him. "you were busy, which is the only reason i went down into the club in the first place. you had work to do. and did i complain about that? no. because i know what that feels like. just like you do, when i have to leave without a single word for a mission that you won't be able to contact me on."
it was staring him in the face, and yet it was taking him a moment to piece all the information he needed together in order to realise it. but as they talked, or in this case started to argue, what they didn't know was that the guy who was once sound asleep in his room was starting to stir.
"i might have been there to see you, wes, but i have been multiple times in the past, and you never complained when i had to leave then. so what is it?" what changed, and was he finally about to figure it out for himself. "oh, you're not? because you seem pretty bloody bothered to me." it was why he turned up on his doorstep, wasn't it? not because he wanted to see him, but because he wanted to confront him. and he couldn't prevent the scoff that slipped from his lips as each piece of the puzzle started to unravel. "i don't, i don't mind if you come by. but usually i'm not here, in my apartment, entertaining someone. which you made clear that you knew about, and how is that? did someone tell you? were you stalking me? did you seriously think it was okay to come by when you knew he would still be here." it wasn't even a question, because he already knew the answer. "what do you want me to do right now, wes? wake him up and kick him out? so you can have me all to yourself? and why is it that you want that?"
his brows furrowed as he walked the distance between them, not realising that as he did so, the one night stand he brought home with him was standing in the entrance of the kitchen behind them. "is it jealousy? are you jealous that he thought to come back to my apartment with me, and you didn't?"
a beep. a hum. and then another, and another. one after the other. reminding him exactly where he was and didn't want to be. but he wasn't exactly going to leave his side after so long of being beside it. that wouldn't feel right to him. to just give up when he was still fighting. and for a life that he deserved to continue living. he just hoped that he would get the chance. especially after the damage that was done. not to mention the reason he was connected to each machine that filled the silence.
if he was honest with himself, he couldn't remember the last time he had an actual conversation. it was just him, and the odd nurse that came in to check on him. and each time he asked: "any change?" only to be told the same. "not today, but that doesn't mean there won't be tomorrow." or the next day. if that day ever actually decided to come.
he made sure that leon knew he was there though. with the touch of his hand, as his tumb gently brushed against his skin. and the words he was encouraged to speak to him. because he might have been unconscious, but that didn't mean he couldn't hear him. it was well known that coma patients could hear the odd thing while laying there. which gave him hope that the important words would sink in. like the way he didn't hesitate to give his arm a gentle squeeze and tell him he loved him. that he needed him, even if it never came across that way.
that was what happened when you spent so much time on your own. you never let anyone in. at least not until the right person came along. and as hard as it was to break down those walls, he found a way when it came to him. with the time they spent together and the way he managed to knock them down one by one without him even realising it. which made the fact that he was one step closing to losing him every single day even harder.
he was sat there, beside him, with his head in his hands as he accepted the incoming call through his earpiece. but he kept his silence as he waited for the voice on the other end to say something.
"james, i heard what happened. you never told me that the two of you were-" his throat cleared as those words left her lips, and he removed his hands from his face so that she could hear him more clearly. "i didn't know i had to." it wasn't like anyone at mi6 needed to know. leon didn't work for them, so it wasn't like he was breaking any rules. and no one could give him the whole 'he's not your friend, he's your colleague' speech because they practically teamed up on their own accord.
"you didn't. you don't. how is he?" she went quiet for a moment, and he was about to give her his response, until she decided to chime back in with her usual: "how are you holding up?"
"he's as well as to be expected. nothing's changed, nothing ever changes." it was like waiting for something you knew would never happen, on the slight chance it actually would. "and i know what you're doing, but i'm fine." he avoided that question with her in the past time and time again, did she really think this situation would be any different? that he would just open up on the spot and tell her exactly how he was feeling? because even if he wanted to, he couldn't bring himself to do it. he would much rather bottle it all up and find a way to release it all later.
"i'll be okay." but who was he trying to convince? her, or himself? "it's leon that isn't. and all because i couldn't get there in time." even though he tried his best to. that wasn't the only thing that bothered him though. it was the fact that he spared him. that he made the one person who didn't deserve it suffer, and to the point where he may never wake up.
which made him realise that maybe this situation was different. and moneypenny would get the answer she was always looking for. "don't do that, james. don't blame yourself. you couldn't have known, neither of you could."
"and if he doesn't make it? who do i blame then?" and he knew what she was going to say. the asshole who did that to him. but it wasn't that easy. because how exactly did he get to him in the first place? they were together when it happened. so close, and yet far enough apart that he was able to get snatched. "you really wanna know how i'm holding up, moneypenny?" not that he needed her to answer, as he took in a shaky breath and fought back the tears that were forever threatening to fall.
"i'm terrified, that he won't wake up, that i'm the reason he won't wake up. because it would be hard enough to lose him without knowing that i'm responsible for it. that i couldn't be there for him when he needed me the most. and i'm somehow just supposed to live with that. like i do my parents, and i know what you're going to say. that wasn't my fault either. but why does that even matter? i was there, wasn't i? they did what they had to do, but that doesn't make it any less my fault. they chose to save me. you can sit there and tell me, time and time again, that they did it to give me a chance. that they chose my life over there own for a reason. it doesn't change anything. and neither does telling me that i couldn't have known what would happen as i made my way to him." it would still eat away at him, consume him in a way that wasn't and never would be healthy. "this is why i don't get close to people." he admitted, rubbing his forehead with the palm of his hand. "but i just had to get close to him. it's like i'm bad luck. not that he hasn't been through his fair share of bullshit, but this? this isn't on him. this isn't anything to do with him. this on me. and the fact that he chose to get to know me."
he took a deep breath in as he closed his eyes tight, allowing for the first tear to finally fall. "i'm scared that he won't wake up. and i need him to wake up, because i can't lose anyone else."
she didn't know what to say at first. but only because she wasn't used to the honesty, or the vulnerability. "do you need me to come out there?" it was an offer she thought about before she even called him. she just didn't see the point in mentioning it until it felt right. and he just gave her the best opportunity. "i can't expect you to do that."
"i want to. you can't go through all this on your own, i think you've just proven that. so i'll be there. just don't lose hope just yet." he nodded even though she couldn't see him. and he was about to hang up, until her voice piped up with one last thing. "and james, it will be okay." even if she had no evidence to prove it.
YOUR PARENTS, YOUR MENTOR, YOUR FRIENDS . . . an independent. mutually exclusive. single muse & portrayal.
original character & crossover friendly. with au's in outer banks, resident evil & more. on comms with m ( megan poppy ( meg ), twenty - one plus, she / her, gmt.
a forbidden romance plot between james and moneypenny because m would never approve, but keeping away from each other is harder than the two of them expected.
Last night should have been good. It was for awhile. James stopped by the club, hung out for awhile and Wes always enjoyed their time together. Last night however things shifted. At some point James had gone off to enjoy the club properly, which he didn't fault him for. What he did fault him for was his sudden absence. For what he considered to be a great deal of audacity when James left without so much as a goodbye and with some guy he'd picked up in the process. It dug at him and all Wesley could do was stew as he watched the pair disappear through his club's front doors.
When morning came and it was still on his mind, the feeling just as cloying as the night before, he decided to do something about it. He didn't allow himself to think about it too much. Wesley stopping at one of their favorite places for takeout and made his way to his best friends place. Arriving he knocked, the back hanging off his arm as he waited.
The moment the door opened and he saw it was actually James that answered he gave a simple reply as he pushed his way inside. "Brought you breakfast." It wasn't entirely uncommon to just walk into each other's places. The only difference this morning really was his annoyance. If that's what he was going to call it. He came to set the bag on the counter before turning to face James,"You didn't say bye so I thought we could spend some time together. Unless, is he still here?"
the thought didn't occur to him, that he was in the wrong for not bothering to tell wes where he was going the night before. or that he even found himself a one night stand in the first place. but it wasn't like he had the time to head up to his office and say goodbye. not when eyes were being made, and making it back to his apartment, was the only thing on his mind.
he blinked as he pushed past him, looking between the space he was once stood, and where he ended up now. closing the door as quietly as he possibly could before following on behind him. "cheers, mate, but i have-" the word company was on the tip of his tongue, but was interrupted by the actual reason he turned up on his doorstep in the first place. and that was when it clicked for him.
"is that was this is about?" now that he was able to put two and two together, he couldn't help but shake his head. his lips curling into a smile that probably came across insensitive. "would you have said bye to me if you met someone to go home with? and yes, he's still here. i don't understand why this bothers you so much." was it really that big of a deal? or was there a hint of something that hadn't clicked for him just yet.
it was one thing seeing the outfit she wore in a photo he made sure to save in his camera roll, but it was another to see it up close in person. how it fit her so perfectly that the thought of stripping it off her felt like a crime. but one he was more than happy to commit. "really? i could've sworn i made it more obvious." the smirk he wore growing across his features, if that was even possible, as he couldn't bring himself to take his eyes off her.
he could have done better. when it came to making his attraction known. but then it wasn't just about that. he wasn't just interested in the thought of her, or even her body. but the personality he had gotten to know. and as much as he spent time with the receptionist, he had to admit that she was never actually the one who was on his mind. he just knew it wouldn't be okay to admit that. at least not to her, but maybe to elena. but he'd make sure to pencil that in for a later date.
his heart was already beating out of his chest as her fingers grazed his skin, and he didn't hesitate to trail his own back down the outside of her arm so that they could gently rest at her hip. "how about a dream come true?" it felt a little too sappy to say but he was lost in the moment. his own words matching the way her own whispered, as he allowed his eyelids to flutter to a close and bask in the slowness of each kiss.
each hand found a place to rest as things heated up between them. his right palm resting on the small of her back, as his left brushed strands of hair out of her face and continued to gently cup at her cheek. eventually backing her up against the nearest surface and lifting her ever so slightly so he could pin her between himself and it.
it was a night to remember. getting the chance to spend time with his best friend, as well as return home with a hook up that let him blow off some steam after his latest mission. but what he didn't expect was the morning after. leaving the man he spent the night with to sleep as he headed to the kitchen for a cup of coffee. only to be met with the door being knocked, and his brows being furrowed as he headed over to open it. "wes?"
his entrance took longer than expected. walking around until he was able to use his dart phone to distract an attendee and pickpocket their invitation since mi6 weren't able to get him one. using it to slip past the security without a word, as he held it up with the confidence that would make anyone believe that he was actually supposed to be there.
"i'm in." the middle and forefinger of his right hand pressing against his ear in order to hear the voice on the other end of the line better. "about time." and she had a point. but he didn't bother to make a comment on it. instead focusing on the mission ahead as he took a look around. moneypenny giving him the insight he needed when it came to every single person in the room, as well as what exactly he was looking for.
and he would have headed towards the stairs, and located the information needed, if it wasn't for the woman at the bar who immediately caught his eye. causing him to stop in his tracks as he had to ask: "and she is?"
"out of your league." it fell from her lips so easily, without hesitation, and it was probably a good thing that she wasn't there to see him roll his eyes. "i'm serious."
"so am i. that's blair waldorf. she's well known in the area, high society. her mother is fashion designer, eleanor waldorf. while her father, harold waldorf, is a successful lawyer. she actually chose to follow in his footsteps. and get this, she was hired to defend the company you've been ordered to take down."
it was obvious what he should have done next. took one last look at her and continued on with the orders he was given. but part of him just couldn't do it. and instead of taking a left towards the stairs, he moved forwards. "well then, i guess it's about time we had a little chat."
which was met with a verbal protest and a reminder of why he was there. he just didn't listen. leaving the voice to judge him as he continued to make his way over and managed to catch her just as she chose to leave the bar. interrupting her in her footsteps with the first thing that came to mind.
"smooth, james." she might have been sarcastic, but he believed it. listening to the information he already knew, along with the compliment she gave herself. "i'm sure there's no doubt about it." which could come in handy if he was somehow able to get her on their side. there was just one problem. and that was the risk of being compromised. "bond. james bond." he extended his right hand for her to shake. "so what brings you to the party?"
