First of all, we must consider sleeping a synonym of death in this scene. Whizzer is already sleeping through the whole scene (or just resting/not interacting) and he was already dead when Marvin died.

In the end of the scene, Marvin starts sleeping too and in the end of the musical he also dies (or it is implicit that he died).

When they both sleep together, they finally have an opportunity to rest without anyone bothering them, just like dying.

This scene can also mean that they were buried side by side, since they are sleeping side by side.

In this scene they are (totally or partly) naked, and dying is like getting naked or freed from the body.

Maybe the lyrics can also help interpret the meaning of this scene. The title of the song is "What more can I say?", which is repeated in "What would I do?" when Marvin's singing with Whizzer's ghost/memory.

This can also mean that Marvin left nothing to say and he doesn't know what more he can say in his last moments (considering that "What more can I say?" is some kind of Marvin's inner dialog moments before he passes away) because he has already said everything he wanted to say.

this is an amazing take, i hadnt thought of it that way - also if marvin falling asleep is in a way representing him dying, the portion of the scene where he is awake represents him getting sicker, adding more conttext to the line “i cant eat breakfast i barely tie my shoe”
