No, I don’t think I’ll be back at YATC for the foreseeable future, I’ve kind of grown apart from it.
I’ll make sure I let you know which one I choose, I just need it to be pink. My date and I are alluding to Wicked with our outfits (she’s being Elphie in green) so my options are pretty open.
Hehe, thanks ^^. I'm super excited, needless to say.
You're cute and you have a sweet Tumblr. 10/10, would date :3
Wow you're my new favorite
Skyfall review:
I got out of Skyfall just under an hour ago. I was going to put this off until tomorrow morning, but I just need to get this out of my system. The following will probably consist of word-vomit, I'll make sure to clean it up after watching the season three premiere of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic tomorrow.
---
"In Skyfall, Bond's loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost." - Official description/blurb
To me, the above quote does not do the film justice. The video at the top of this post is the opening credits of the film (taking place after the massive, attention grabbing, well preformed, classic opening chase scene). The designer of this opening sequence got everything and more right about the film. This was a perfect film equivalent of the blurb you see on the front cover of a book - the sentence or two that somehow, even in lacking length, manage to completely sum up the entertainment experience. To be perfectly frank, I am not the biggest fan of Adele. I completely respect her, please do not get me wrong - how could one not admire a career such as the one she has made for herself? But her song Skyfall that we've all heard on the radio a hundred times by now is nothing without this sequence to back it up.
On to the actual film. The latest 007 adventure did exactly what a 50th anniversary film needs to do - be nothing less than brilliant. For me and my peers, this was our first in-theater Bond experience; it could not lack the plot and action of past, potentially superior films if the franchise wanted to continue with our generation. I know my father and I were not the only two who left the theater thinking exactly what the Bond franchise (not to mention owners of video rental places) wanted us thinking - Maybe I should watch Dr. No.
As mentioned previously, the film starts with a chase scene. How could it not? Ditching mysterious silhouettes and through-the-gun-barrel camera shots for which our agent is so well known, for very smooth camera shots of frantic situations (though Bond will forever be Mr. Calm, Cool, and Collected). The score also got a pick me up, blending Adele's number with the classic "dun-dun-dunduuuun" for an all-around pleasing sound that really enhanced the final product. I can not say enough about direction on this film. A number of stills that are bound to become classic were featured in this film, and the film makers were sure to include a fair amount of blasts from the past as well, including a certain Aston Martin (on a side note - the car budget must have been nothing short of astronomical if they could afford to total no less than five new Volkswagen Bugs, scrape up a new Audi, and litter at least one DB5 with bullet holes). The film was in many ways brand-new, but did not fail at bringing pride to it's predecessors.
Judi Dench's M left little to be desired, her kick-ass atitude was something any feminist would be proud of. Daniel Craig lived up to his reputation of being the second best James Bond: 007 of all time, and proved that an old Bond can still pick up some new tricks. Antagonist Silva, crazed computer genius and ex-agent of M's, was played well by Javier Bardem. Seeing Ralph Fiennes as something less, you know, evil and snake-like, took some getting used to; but his roll as M's new boss, Mallory, was nothing short of satisfactory. Naomie Harris and Ben Whishaw brought out great, younger adaptations of Miss. Eve Moneypenny and Q, respectively.
Death Note Series 1 and Episode 25 'Silence': Review and Reaction
Everything before the 'spoiler warning' has been written pre-episode 25 and contains no spoilers.
By request of a few close friends, I've been watching the anime Death Note. Due to my pre-existing obsessive and fangirl-ish nature, I have watched the first season over the course of less than two days while still having time to attend a dance class, go see the film "Pitch Perfect" with a friend who is staying with my family for the week, and watch the Cardinals at Giants game (go SF!) whilst simultaneously keeping up with the debate via my twitter feed (dominated by one Maureen Johnson).
Death Note Series One and General Review:
So far, over all, I have quite enjoyed the program. Though the stakes are obviously higher than any real life situation; the characters are relatable, quirky, and otherwise enjoyable for most fangirls to watch for five hours straight. I had a fun time relating the personalities of myself and those I know to many of the characters.
The plot takes many unexpected turns that really kept me on edge, something that can be rather difficult to do. The plot twists, though perhaps not worthy of Moffat (granted, time travel is not an option in this case, but we do have what is the equivalent of a Sherlock-esque consulting detective), are still shocking and leave the watcher wanting more almost at once. All episodes are just about twenty and a quarter minutes long and end with a cliff hanger, wether encased in the episode itself or just from the preview of the next episode.
The show does a nice job of combining a light amount of humor while still maintaining a very serious and controversial plot line. The basis of the plot is the argument of wether the death penalty is, for lack of a better word, "Just" or not. This subject matter is obviously very relevant to today's society and is a very controversial topic at that, so the show does a spectacular job of staying rather politically correct.
Above all others, I would recommend the show to anyone interested in anime. I also believe that most Sherlockians would enjoy the banter between the two main characters L and Light, if absolutely nothing else.
Death Note 'Silence' Episode Twenty-Five Reaction:
Said friends from the beginning of this piece also requested I do a reaction video. Due to the fact that it's after three in the morning on a school night, I'm not about to turn on my lights and video camera, so I hope this will suffice.
-------------------------------Spoilers Begin Below-------------------------------
The following is what I typed out durring my watching of the episode, to jog my memory for this review.
Don't kill L.
Now... Kiss (in response to L and Light's rooftop scene)
Foot rub? Massage? And you aren't boyfriends?!
So kawaii.
No don't part ways!
No don't use the notebook, L, Jesus Chris let Light have this one thing so you can be in gay together.
WHO SAID YOU COULD KILL L WE TALKED ABOUT THIS.
Oh, I get it, bells. Still irrelevant.
Light are you sad or happy I can't tell?
Oh, in a rage? Going crazy? I can't tell if this is an act or not.
I think it's an act.
Bring L back to life.
Oh, you killed Rem too. Right. Damn it, Light, stop it.
Fuck this shit.
L is what's important, I don't need another lecture about your 'new world', Light.
To be perfectly honest, aside from wanting to know what happens next (not a good idea for this morning), I don't know what exactly my friends want a reaction about. L was in the preview for the next episode, so I know he comes back. We're going back to the "This is like Sherlock" thing I was talking about before, actually. Well, I can assume so at least, though I expect the next episode to be a recap of series one so it may just be scenes from that. None the less I do hope L returs at some point, he has quickly turned in to my favorite character.
From the hype I was getting to post this reaction, I must say I was expecting a repeat of The Angels Take Manhattan or Reichenbach Fall, but I'm not crying at all. My curiosity is piqued towards the next episode, sure, but this seems to be a recurring theme. Not to mention I don't need to wait another year to see how L isn't dead (Yes, Moffat. I'm currently glaring at you through my computer.)
I guess there is always the possibility that L actually is dead, but I'm in complete denial over that because seriously, who kills their best character? The death scene was a bit confusing though, it was hard for me to tell exactly who was dying and weather or not Light was happy about it or not. None the less, to say I enjoyed the episode would be a total lie.
::Basically what I think my friends want out of this: yes, I ship L X Light incredibly hard to the point where I've already looked up some r34, found some smut_fics for future use, and track their tag on Tumblr. Super kawaii Death Note OTP 5ever, I'm sure.::
I'm sure I'll watch most if not all of what I have left of the show tomorrow, but at the moment I think I'm going to occupy myself with something else. I have been watching for about five hours straight now, I think I need to give YouTube a break.
Have a great day and until I see you next, be brilliant.
