Sometimes you just need an idea to chew on.

They said he was a necromancer. His "mother," looked eerily like the new teacher's dead wife, and the photos he had painted a damning picture.

Half the town believed, ready to toss them out. The other simply didn't believe such a thing was possible. They didn't believe in magic, or maybe they saw the love his family had.

Maybe they didn't trust the teacher. There were rumors the teacher had been abusing his girlfriend. How had his wife died?

My brother isn't a thief. He offered a second life and we accepted what he had to do to provide it.

They swallowed. "Things change."

The villain's eyes narrowed, "Don't. Lie to me. The last time we spoke you had such grand ideas about healing and helping people. Regardless of reality. The good outweighs the bad. The scales haven't tipped, I would've heard. Which means it's personal."

"And if it is?" they asked, molars grinding, "Would you really say no to an ally because you don't know their motivation?"

"How fortunate that I'm not. I'm saying no to a lost sheep, and the shepherd you'll lead here. Too risky," the villain turned, obviously dismissing.
