A harsh wall of air hit your body as you pushed the roof door open. You winced as the wind rushed your features, settling against your teeth and drying your lips almost instantly. Tears glazed your eyes, and as you slammed the door shut, you found your usual seat on the concrete - the freezing brick against your back seeping deep into your bones.
“Fuckin’ day.” You muttered, bringing the heel of your palms to your eyes - a feeble attempt to hold back the tears that threatened to spill from your lashline. You fumbled in your pocket, pulling out a pack of cigarettes. Flipping the lid, you were greeted with nothing but an empty cardboard box. “Fuck!” You growled, throwing the packet to the ground.
“Tough shift?” A voice suddenly came from your left, and you jumped, breath catching in your throat. In your haste to take a load off your feet, you hadn't noticed your colleague sat beside you, knees to his chest as he held his own cigarette between his fingers.
“Er– yeah, yeah, y'could say that…” You tripped over your words - trying to sound nonchalant. You brought your gaze to Frank, watching as wisps of smoke escaped his lips. “I…” You began, the memory of your shift heavy in your mind, “… I lost someone.”
Frank nodded, drawing in another inhale of nicotine.
“Bad?”
“Fuckin’ bad enough… If I’d have just-“
”Nope.” He interrupted, tapping a wad of ash to the floor.
”Excuse me?”
”Nope. We don’t do ‘ifs’ in this life of work, we can’t… Hell will freeze before you hear me saying ‘if’…”
You tried to speak, but your words dissolved against your tongue.
Moments passed, then-
“Wow…” Finally, you spoke, nodding in slow realisation.
”What?” Frank asked, brows furrowed, and he angled his body toward you.
“I did not think I’d see the day Frank-goddamn-Langdon would give me advice- and, Jesus, it actually be good advice.”
“Yeah, well fuck you too!” He let out an incredulous chuckle, pushing playfully at your arm.
“No, no, I mean-“
“Don’t worry about it, Y/L/N, I get’ya…” Now you both chuckled.
Frank took another drag of his cigarette, and the smoke settled around you. Warmth spread through your body, and your eyes fluttered closed, letting the heady nicotine scent push any memory of the last twelve hours from your mind.
”Oh, shit, do you want one?” Frank asked, and he quickly grabbed a packet from his scrubs.
“Yes, Jesus Christ, yes.” You were practically drooling.
“I didn’t peg you as religious.” Frank let out a puff of laughter.
“Not religious, just-”
”Addicted?”
Once again, you tried to speak, though this time, the words tumbled from your lips. “No, no, God no, I didn’t mean to-“
”Relax, Y/L/N, I’m just fuckin’ with you.”
You shook your head, breathing a sigh of relief as you took a cigarette from the packet Frank offered.
“Light?” He asked, and you shook your head, patting at your own scrubs to locate your lighter.
“Shit.”
Frank laughed again, this time holding his lighter for you to take.
”Y/L/N, you are quite literally the worst nicotine addict I have ever met.”
”Yeah, don’t blame me. Blame the shift from fucking hell…“
You lit the cigarette that hung between your lips, and quickly took a drag. You breathed deeply as you raised your chest, allowing one final sharp breath in before exhaling through your mouth.
“Thanks… By the way…” You said, gesturing to the cigarette perched between your fingers. You mimicked Frank as you angled your body to the left. Passing the lighter back, your hand lingered, Frank's fingertips brushing yours for a second longer than intended.
You swallowed, a lump swiftly forming in your throat.
“Y’know…” Frank began, stubbing his cigarette into the concrete beside him. Your eyes caught his. “I’ve saved like… Hundreds of people…”
”Gee, thanks for bragging, Doctor.” You laughed, and now you were the one to playfully push his arm.
”No, listen!” He began, again. “I’ve saved hundreds of people. I’ve lost twelve…” His gaze settled on yours. “Do I remember the injuries of the people I’ve saved? Their blood-type? Hell, even their names?” Frank paused, whether he was asking genuine questions or rhetorical, you weren’t sure.
“No! Hell, no! I can’t remember half the people who leave that ER. But the losses? The ones who I could’ve saved? I remember every fucking detail.” He emphasised his last sentence, leaning forward so his face was mere inches from yours. A lock of hair hung down over his eyes, and his gaze remained attached to yours as he looked through long lashes.
“It isn’t healthy to dwell on the losses. This job is about saving people- one hundred percent. But the ones you lose will stay with you a hell of a lot longer than the ones you save. It’s just about finding that balance, Y/L/N.”
You nodded, a fresh wave of tears glazing your eyes.
“Take a moment now - however long you need . Remember them. Commit them to memory, but don’t dwell. Don’t-don’t linger…”
You swallowed again, this time in an attempt to curb the oncoming stream of tears you felt brewing on your waterline.
“Thank you.” You choked, sniffing as you brought your sleeve to your nose.
“Don’t mention it. Just…” Frank stood, stretching his arms into the air. “…Remember, if you need anything - even if it’s just another cigarette…” You both chuckled softly, “… Come find me.”
You nodded, a gentle smile curving your lips.
“Now,” Frank started toward the door, “I have got a pastrami sandwich with my name on it down there, and you…” He tugged at the handle, “… Have got a beautiful sunset to keep you company whilst you try and remember where the hell you put your lighter.” A wide grin spread across Frank’s face, and he put two fingers to his temple, a salute goodbye. “Come find me at the end of your next shift! We’ll share the pack!” He yelled on the stairwell, leaving you alone on the golden-lit roof.

It was dark outside, the usually humid temperature quickly plummeting. You were inside the tent you'd found, nice and cosy wrapped in a sleeping bag with your backpack pillowing your head. Despite living in Tokyo you had plenty of experience with nature, in the real world your Dad had ensured you knew how to take care of yourself and survive in the wild. Camping was an activity you'd both enjoyed alongside hiking and mountain climbing, staying physically active was one way you'd been able to truly bond with him and feel genuinely at peace in the world. You smiled, reminiscing on old memories until you begun to hear Arisu's teeth chatter in the frigid temperature outside. He'd been so stubborn, insisting on sleeping under the stars despite your offer to share the warm tent for the night. Loud swearing was the final straw, you'd never be able to get any sleep with him making a racket outside so you unzipped the tent and called out to him.
"Arisu! Stop being ridiculous and get inside." Giving him a warm look, endeared at his messy hair and oversized t-shirt, you simply lay back down, waiting for him to obey your command. Sure enough he was soon clambering into the tent, zipping the entrance back up, and awkwardly climbing over you. His long limbs were gangly and his height made him stoop so he wouldn't knock the top of the tent. Finally he managed to settle down in the space next to you, gazing firmly up at the ceiling, muscles tense and avoiding acknowledging you.
Since the moment you'd first briefly met Arisu in the five of spade game you had thought he was handsome in a scruffy sort of way and couldn't help admiring him as he'd stepped into the apartment block lobby with his taller friend. After the game ended you hadn't seen him again, leading you to believe he hadn't made it. Really it had been a stroke of luck when you'd spotted his body hunched up on the road, hair matted and clothes wet with a mixture of rain, sweat and a red tinge of blood. Saving him had been no choice at all and Arisu had stuck around afterwards, providing you company whilst you taught him how to survive outside the games. Turns out you both made a pretty solid team.
Looking over at him now, flat on his back, hands tucked close to his body to avoid brushing against you, you were struck with the reminder once again that he was incredibly good looking. Rolling over you fully faced him, something Arisu was quick to notice.
“What was life like, before you were brought here?” The question caught Arisu off guard but he hurried to think of an answer.
“I didn't do anything of any worth…” It was an honest reply, one you appreciated as the men you'd previously had crushes on were always eager to brag and make themselves seem larger than life. Arisu wasn't like that, a refreshing change that only added to his attractiveness. “I just played video games and hung out with Chota and Kaurbe.” Arisu stopped suddenly, his throat closing up with grief at the thought of his recently deceased friends. You reached over and placed a comforting hand on his arm, squeezing gently then running it up and down in a soothing manner.
“My life wasn't any better to be honest.” You didn't elaborate and Arisu didn't push you.
“Did you have a girlfriend?” The question blurted out before your mind could fully catch up. Arisu's head jerked from the tent ceiling to look at you surprised. Doubling down you grinned cheekily at him. “Don't look so surprised Arisu, you're a good looking man with plenty of attractive qualities. I'd be more shocked if you didn't have a girlfriend.”
“I-I don't…have a girlfriend.” His answer gave you a sense of relief and sparked hope deep down inside that you maybe stood a chance. “Actually, I've never had a girlfriend.”
“What? Seriously?”
“I'm telling the truth!” Arisu laughed in a self-depricating way. “I'm not exactly the ladies man, not even when I was in highschool.”
“Well I find it hard to believe nobody took an interest in you, even if you never noticed.” You shuffled ever so slightly closer to him. “I notice you Arisu.”
With your faces now closer together you allowed your eyes to flicker down to Arisu's plump, slightly dry, lips in hopes he would catch on to the fact you so desperately want to kiss him.
“I-I guess I notice you as well.” He was shy, face bright red and hands fiddling nervously with the end of his t-shirt as if he wasn't sure what to do with them.
“Then why don't you kiss me Arisu and put us both out of our misery?” It was a bold statement, one you weren't sure he was ready to even hear let alone act on but to your shock Arisu nodded eagerly before pushing himself forward and landing a chaste peck on your lips. It was over so quickly you'd barely had a chance to feel it and so you breathed out a frustrated sigh before grasping the back of Arisu's neck and pulling him in to land a passionate kiss, dipping your tongue inside his mouth when he gasped in surprise. This quickly turned into a moan of pleasure as he followed your lead, placing a hand on your hips and squeezing as if checking you were real.
Eventually you both pulled away, out of breath and red in the face. Exchanging bright smiles, you leant over and placed your head on Arisu's chest, content to fall asleep in his arms and not think of the reality that consumed you both.

Hi! Thanks for being so considerate, I haven't written anything for them yet but would defo be up to writing for them in the future once I'm out of my writing block 😊 - E🌻
Hiii so i was lowkey wondering if you could write like an Arisu x reader fic!! basically from the tent scene in s1 where arisu is embarrassed to be sleeping so close to usagi but its like a rewrite where usagi is like reader instead and they kiss or makeout idk im not good at being descriptive but i hope its enough detail😭
Hi! This is more than enough detail thank you so much for requesting something! I've just finished an Arisu fic and am really excited to write more for him. I'm currently rewatching season 1 and loved this scene between Arisu and Usagi so would love to do a reader insert rewrite for it. Keep an eye out! - E🌻

TAG LIST - if you would like to join the tag list for my AIB fics, leave a comment on this post or drop me a DM x
You had been with Arisu since he and his friends had first entered the borderlands. You had 7 days on your visa but you'd been determined to torture yourself after the loss of your best friend by playing game after game each night. Playing the three of clubs with Arisu, Karube, Chota and Shibuki had been a chance to observe new potential allies. Then in the five of spades, hanging around and playing tag was once again an opportunity to test how loyal your new friends were and found that they would walk through fire for each other. It happened towards the middle of the game, you'd fallen down a stairway and twisted your ankle pretty badly. Arisu was quite far in front of you but had stopped and turned when you'd cried out in pain. The shooter was close and as the heavy thumps of his boots echoed ever closer, fear had frozen your limbs and caused tears to prick at your eyes. Next thing you knew, Arisu had heaved you up and practically dragged you up to the next floor. He'd shoved you around a corner, pushed you to the floor and told you to be quiet. The shooter had walked right by you without even knowing you'd been there, following Arisu as he screamed and hollered for his attention. He'd saved you, the man you'd truly underestimated because of his ragged appearance and lack of self preservation.
Now you were back in the relative safety of the apartment building, still with extra days on your visa and a growing sense of gratitude towards your savior. You observed him now, baggy t-shirt and shorts with flip-flops that made him appear shabby and lazy. His hair lay limp on his head and his face was slightly oily from sweat, but despite all of this you looked closer. He had beautiful eyes, wide and dark with so much expression. His lips were pink and plump, stretched into an exhausted smile as he tried his best to entertain Chota whose leg was only getting worse. It was a lovely smile, full of hope and really transformed his face. You were struck with the sudden urge to kiss him. Although his hair looked flat and disheveled, you couldn't help wondering if it was soft to the touch. The last rays of sunlight backlit his figure and made him look ethereal, handsome in a way you'd not realised before.
He, Karube, Chota and Shibuki were off to play a game tomorrow. You'd tried your best to convince them all to let you tag along but they'd refused, something about you having way too many days left on your visa and Karube asking you to try and find out anything you could about a "Beach". Reluctantly you had agreed but now as you sat staring at Arisu, you realised that he could die tomorrow. You may never get the chance to properly thank him. Time to do something about that.
You were sitting on a bed away from the others, Arisu's face flushed from kissing and the shock of your rather straight forward proposal. You had wished he would take the lead a bit more but you had a sneaking suspicion that he was a virgin.
“I-I've never done this before…” His face was red with embarrassment, not making eye contact and fidgeting awkwardly at the confession. You smiled softly, it seems you were correct about that suspicion after all. Just by his mannerisms alone was enough to tip you off but his admittance had confirmed it.
Catching his hand between yours, you squeezed reassuringly. “Don’t worry, we can take it slow.”
Moving his hand to your right breast, you placed it there and gently squeezed, encouraging him to copy the action before removing your hand entirely and placing it on his shoulder. Arisu had a look of mesmerised awe as his eyes stayed fixated on your naked chest and the hand that slowly massaged the warm breast underneath. Suddenly his palm shifted and his thumb grazed over a nipple, causing it to harden instantly with pleasure and elicit a nearly pornographic moan at the unexpected sensation. Arisu froze, hand moving back slightly and face turning even redder if that was possible.
“I-I can stop if you want?” He said hesitantly, as if he didn’t mean the words coming from his mouth but thought to ask anyway out of politeness.
You let out a breathy chucked. “Do it again, please.” Relief lightened his features and his thumb returned to graze lightly across that hardened nipple before he slowly lowered his mouth to your breast, glancing upwards to check your reaction and finding no resistance. It seemed like time slowed as you watched with an aching need pulsing between your thighs as Arisu's lips brushed delicately against your nipple before closing around it erotically. You moaned once more and tugged at his hair in encouragement, feeling his hands tighten around your hips and his own grunt of approval at the manhandling vibrating against your chest.
Soon the stimulation had you both grinding against each other frantically and Arisu finally pulled away to look at you hesitantly, his face still a touch too shy for your liking. You brushed your hand against the side of his face before leaning down to whisper in his ear.
“I want you to take control now Arisu, you've done such a good job so far. I'm yours to do whatever you want with.” The words made him practically whimper.
“A-are you sure? I-I don't think I can do it.”
“Of course you can, you're a natural leader in the games we've played. Use that confidence now.” His eyes were locked on yours, drinking in every word of encouragement. “I trust you Arisu.” That seemed to trigger something inside him because Arisu suddenly lunged toward you and pressed his lips against yours in a bruising, passionate kiss.
His hands pushed against your shoulders and you both shuffled backwards on the bed until you lay down and felt Arisu's body press against yours. He was certainly taking control, his hands turning from timid and gentle to rough and possessive. You could feel his bulge press against your centre as he grinded down into you at the same time his tongue teased you into a hot, open mouthed kiss. The moment was intense and hot, the dominance Arisu displayed allowing you to fully surrender yourself to the situation and for him to take control. The new found confidence he suddenly possessed turned you on causing you to pull his hair and try to guide his mouth down toward your neck. Arisu suddenly gripped your wrist tight and pinned it to the bed, breathing into your mouth and saying
“No, be a good girl and stay still for me.” The shock must have shown on your face because his expression suddenly changed to an embarrassed little grin. “Too much? You did tell me to take control.”
“No no! Definitely not too much!” Your answer reassured him and he continued to kiss you as his hand moved down to lift the end of your dress and slip your underwear down. He must have gotten rid of his own at some point because you suddenly felt his hard, hot member pressed against your dripping entrance before he pushed in slowly. He stilled for a moment allowing you both to adjust before starting to move as his head found your neck and rested there breathing heavily. You moaned, the pleasure and feel of Arisu consuming you entirely bringing you closer and closer to orgasm.
“I’m close.” Arisu whispered seductively into the skin of your neck, his warm breath tickling your throat and causing goosebumps to appear on your flushed skin. “Cum for me baby.”
With one shuddering moan you did as he asked, Arisu not far behind before he gently rolled off you. Taking a moment to catch your breath, you looked at Arisu and watched as his chest levelled out to a normal pace and then crawled over to rest your head against him feeling Arisu's arm automatically settled across your shoulders. He pulled you close and stuck his head in your hair taking a deep sniff before sighing and saying “Was-was that okay? I mean, I loved it b-but if you didn-”
“It was great Arisu, you did such an amazing job baby.” You interrupted him before he could begin rambling and second guessing himself. You felt him smile against your hair and pull you closer, basking in the afterglow. You couldn’t help but think as you both drifted off to sleep that this was definitely a silver-lining of entering the borderlands.
You just hoped that the game tomorrow goes well and that everyone makes it out alive.

A/N I started High Potential last September when it first came out and ofcccc I fell in love with the 50 something year old reserved shows no emotion detective xoxoxoxo I started season 2 last week and that love hasn’t gone away !! Adam Karadec the man you are !! - G🌙
Word count: 1330
WARNINGS: Depictions of anxiety, use of Y/N & Y/L/N
A cold sweat broke out across your brow, and you shot up from your slumber, heart beating erratically as your eyes darted around the room. Your curtains swayed slightly in the evening breeze which worked its way through the window sat ajar, and a shiver settled across your body, raising gooseflesh along your exposed arms and legs.
“Fuck…” You muttered, bringing your knees to your chest as you replayed the dream that had awoken you: A crash from your lounge, broken glass on the floor, a tall and eerie figure standing at the foot of your bed. You looked to your left, tapping at your phone to check the time - 02:17 - and as your gaze settled on the hoodie which hung suspiciously lifelike on your closet door, you grabbed a cushion from beside you and flung it at the legless being, letting the torso fall to the floor. “Fuckin’ creepy…”
A heavy silence enveloped you and you bit at your lip, drawing in a deep inhale as you checked the time once more - 2:18.
“Well…” You rolled your eyes and pushed yourself from the covers as you stepped into your slippers, “… Looks like I won’t be getting back to sleep anytime soon…”
“Whaddup, suckers!” You announced, throwing your bag down onto your desk as you walked into the bullpen. You were greeted with furrowed brows and slightly loose jaws as you slumped into your chair, leaning over to take a lollipop from Daphne’s stash.
“Y/L/N…” The voice of your partner rumbled behind you, and you spun in your chair to face the owner, unwrapping the candy and popping it into your mouth. “I thought it was your day off…” Karadec stated rather than questioned as he took a sip of his coffee.
“Yeah, well…” You took a deep inhale and felt a slight hitch in your throat when you couldn’t fill your lungs all the way, “Thought you’d like- no, need, my help with this one…” You gestured to the case-board, trying to draw all attention away from your entrance. The eyes in the room - which had been trained on you since you walked in - followed your hand and glanced at the myriad mugshots and crime scene photos, Karadec’s, however, stayed focused on you - his cup hovering at his lips as his eyes narrowed.
“We’ve got a lead… Came in last night. Come on…” He flicked his chin toward the quiet room, “I’ll take you through it…”
“Awesome…” You muttered, standing from your desk and throwing your lollipop into the trashcan. Am I acting weird? You thought, casting your mind back to the almost too-realistic dream that had thrust you awake six hours before. Just act normal… You followed Karadec, trying to steady your breathing as you walked.
“What’s up, Y/N?” Karadec asked as he closed the door to the lounge behind you.
Shit…
“Don’t know what you mean…” Your tongue peeked between your lips, and you took a seat on one of the comfy sofas.
“Don’t play dumb… You come in on your day off, making an entrance? I know you, Y/N… What’s up?” Karadec sat beside you, and you sighed, letting your shoulders drop.
“I had a bad dream…”
“What?” Karadec’s brows furrowed at your statement, and you sighed again.
“I had a bad dream, okay? I dreamt someone had broken in and was standing over my bed and—“
“Why didn’t you call me?”
Your eyes narrowed, and you inched backwards slightly at Karadec’s proposition. “It- it was a dream, I… I’m not gonna call you because I had a bad dream, Adam…”
“No, but if you thought someone had broken in… What time was this?”
“About two… I’ve been up since…”
A soft chuckle bubbled in Adam’s throat, incredulous in tone. “You’ve been up since 2am and you decided to come into work? W-what have you been doing?”
“Oh, don’t get me wrong, I kept myself busy! I watched a few episodes of The Office, scrolled through TikTok, I baked a loaf of bread, I—“
“You what?” Another chuckle.
“Baking calms me down… Look,” You adjusted yourself, turning your body closer to Adam, “I went through all the protocols, checked my windows, my door, did a sweep… I was safe, it-it was just a dream.”
Adam nodded, his gaze focusing on something in the distance. “Stay, take your day off some other time… It’ll take your mind off whatever’s going on up there…” One last chuckle as he gestured to your head.
You smiled, and Adam followed suit. It always sent a warm feeling flooding your being when Adam smiled - it was a sight you weren’t used to seeing, but when you did, you knew he genuinely meant it, and it only made your own grow larger.
“That’s the plan, partner…”
—
“I can’t wrap my head around it… I mean, the mother? What’s the world coming to…” You spoke to nobody in particular as you watched Oz place his handcuffs onto the wrists of your suspect before placing his hand on her head to guide her into the backseat of his cruiser. The cool breeze of the docks whipped around you, and you crossed your arms to warm yourself up.
“Love’ll make you do some crazy things, Y//N.” Morgan offered her words of wisdom, and you nodded in agreement, placing your hands on your hips and taking a deep breath in.
All day, your brain had focused on the case you had been working on, and each time you breathed deeply, your lungs filled without an issue. Now however, the case was closed, and your mind was free to wander back to the dream that had plagued your slumber. Suddenly, your shoulders felt heavy and you swallowed, hard, trying to rid your body of the anxious feeling that had overcome it.
“I’m gonna—“ You excused yourself, gesturing in the direction behind you, and Morgan gave your arm a soft touch - a gentle, and silent, goodbye which she was known for.
Your breathing increased, and you found yourself pacing, a disused warehouse looming over you as the collection of cop cars that had followed you to the docks dispersed when Oz’s cruiser pulled out of the lot. No matter how hard you tried, your mind allowed the presence of the tall figure into your thoughts and - as you glanced around for something to help ground yourself - your gaze landed on a broken window on the first floor of the building, broken glass littering the ground.
“Shit, shit, shit…” You tried to control your breathing, to steady it, but with each exhale came a shaky and feeble attempt, and soon, your vision started to glaze over at the arrival of tears in your eyes.
Just when you thought you were going to pass out, you felt a hand against your elbow and a body pushed up against you, steadying you against them and keeping you upright.
Adam.
Though you had it seen your saviour, you knew it was him.
“I can’t go home…” You said, and the tears spilled over your lashes and onto your cheek. Adam kept his hand on your elbow and moved to face you, his gaze dropping to yours.
“Hey, hey, yes you can…” He spoke softly, and pulled you into his chest, his hand gently resting against your ear.
“But what if it wasn’t a dream, what if there was actually someone there, and I—“
“You’re not going home alone, okay? I’ll come back with you, check the place out. Hell, I’ll stay the night, yeah? Your sofa’s comfy, right?” With your ear resting against his chest, you heard Adam’s chuckle resonate, and a smile curved your lips at his gesture.
A moment passed, your body pressed against Adam’s as your breathing slowed, and tears came to an end. “Thank you…” You managed, inhaling the manly scent of his cologne. Tobacco and Cedar?… I’ll figure it out later…
Another chuckle, “What are partners for, hmm?”

So, I started High Potential when it originally came out last year, and I’m feeling really inspired to write a fic for it as I am lovingggggg Season 2 !! Would anyone be interested in a Reader x Character fic for either Daphne, Karadec, or Oz ??
PS, I will 100% be starting a Karadec fic tonight and I will 100% be posting it so keep that in mind ehehe
Heyy I was wondering if you could write me a S1 Arisu (Prime unemployed, hasnt showered, horrific posture ikyk) smut which takes place IN the borderlands. (They met in the borderlands, maybe he carries her through one of the games saving her etc). Arisu is LOWK a virgin and femreader pops his cherry ;D
make sure Arisu is like nervy and somewhat shy, she kinda has to take the initiative and leads the way helping him through until he feels comfortable enough to try take the lead himself.
The title could be something simple like "Met you in the Borderlands".
Hi! Omg I would love to write this for you! Since finishing AIB S3, Arisu has become a top 5 fave character. Getting to write for him will be super fun so ty for such a detailed request. Keep an eye out for it! -E🌻
@en-alexxy Just wanted to give you (and everyone else who is interested in this fic) a sneak peak! I am working on it but it's slow going since I've been a bit bored writing smut, I just feel like I've been recycling the same stuff over and over again. So I've been trying my best to think of new ways to write, this is what I've come up with so far! Fingers crossed I finish it soon! - E🌻
a/n: after re-watching the film and reading the book, I fear I’ve developed a hyperfixation for The Long Walk and just needed to write something for it. If this isn't your thing, no worries, feel free to ignore! But if it is, then I hope you enjoy! - E🌻

“You have a girl waiting for you Ray?”
The conversation had been started as a way to both get to know him and distract him at the same time. He didn't know if Pete actually cared about the answer or not, but he did.
“I HAD a girl…Do you have a girl Pete?”
Pete made long eye contact for a moment before he smiled, some secret meaning behind his expression as he said “no, Ray, I don't.” He continued to smile while holding eye contact and by God, Ray couldn't help the understanding smile that bloomed in answer. No words of acknowledgement were needed, just that shared smile and singular moment of quiet acceptance before Ray felt himself slowing his pace ever so slightly to fall back and watch as Pete sped up to walk next to Baker. Ray couldn't help but focus his gaze on Pete's strong back, the way the sunlight hit him just-so, haloing him in a pleasant glow that made his features stand out handsomely as he turned his head to talk with Baker.
“You dreaming ‘bout your boyfriend's dick in your mouth, Garraty?” Fucking Barkovitch. The loud-mouthed son of a bitch had opened his big mouth and interrupted the peaceful, pleasant thoughts that had run through his head. Scowling he turned back briefly to address him with a simple “fuck you Barkovitch” and then resolutely went back to ignoring him, not wanting to be riled up and end up like poor Rank all those miles back. He heard the resounding scoff from Barkovitch along with the hawking and sound of spit hitting the hot tarmac before he shuffled off to, presumably, bother some other poor soul.
A momentary flash of shame passed through him before he forced it to the back of his mind and reminded himself that nobody knew what he'd been thinking. What he had always thought throughout his youth and routinely pushed down and hidden with a growing sense of dread and denial. And nobody will ever know, that horrid self-criticising voice wriggled its way to the front of his mind once again to rub salt into the wound. Regardless of Barkovitch's words, it truly didn’t matter in the grand scheme of things. The Long Walk would most likely kill him, would most definitely kill all of them except the one lucky winner. He hoped it wasn't Barkovich. Anyone else he could tolerate, but a sickening vision of himself and Barkovich being the final walkers left standing came to mind. The idea that he would have to watch, collapsed on the road in agony, as Barkovich was hailed as the winner while all he got was a bullet in the head. Shuddering, he shook those unpleasant thoughts from his head.
Queer, not queeer, that didn't seem to matter now that they were all busy dying.
That reality seemed to be sinking in now. The longer the walk went on, the more he found himself thinking of death, coming to the realisation that people had died and would continue to die. He knew when he signed up that he might not make it all the way, that he might not get his wish but he was prepared to take that risk. What he hadn't counted on was making friends, of getting to know the other sad, indoctrinated souls who had bought into the idea of The Long Walk and readily signed themselves up in the name of patriotic honour and the slim chance of bettering their situation in life.
He certainly hadn't counted on Pete Mcvries.
“Just keep dancing with me like this, Garraty, and I'll never tire. We'll scrape our shoes on the stars and hang upside down from the moon.” Pete's words from hours previous echoed in his mind now, the poetic beauty of them pulling at some previously unknown heartstrings filling him with a sense of wonder, sadness before finally settling on contentment. Yes he was content with the knowledge that even though he and Pete would never make it out alive together, they had each other in the walk. Even though they had both agreed not to help each other, Ray somehow knew that was a crock of shit. They’d help each other right until the end, he just couldn’t imagine himself carrying on walking while his friend was begging for help. He wouldn't be able to live with himself, might even shoot himself after receiving his wish. Regardless, The Long Walk would forever ensure he and Pete were bonded together by their experiences here, two individuals entwined imperfectly together for eternity. If there was an afterlife, maybe they'd meet again there. Maybe they would even be happy together.
The thoughts were becoming dangerously deluded and too close to suicidal for his liking so he took his canteen, cupped a handful of water and splashed his face before readjusting his sunhat and picking up his speed so he was once again in line with his group of musketeers. As he evened out his pace once more he stole a glance at Pete only to find him already staring with the same handsome smile he seemed only to reserve for him. He couldn't help but laugh giddily in response and lightly bump their shoulders together, receiving a laugh in return. It wasn't a perfect situation, not by a long shot, but for now Ray could be content in the fact that he'd met Pete and got to share in this moment together, for however long that would last.

Finally started reading The Long Walk after watching the movie and I'm back to being obsessed! The story is absolutely amazing and the characters are so interesting. My favourite Stephen King story for sure!

It’s bright outside, warm and humid. Perfect weather to be lounging around the pool all day. As Chishiya and you make your way into the crowded pool area you manage to keep your eyes on Arisu who looked lost as he turned his head back and forth. Eventually he gave up and sat down on a sun lounger, settling his gaze on the chaos happening in the pool. Signalling that he was going to be sitting at the bar with Kuina, Chishiya gave your hip a squeeze before breaking away and allowing you to approach Arisu alone. Smiling to yourself you practically skipped toward Arisu, startling him when you squeezed next to him on the sun lounger, sitting closer than socially acceptable when greeting a stranger for the first time.
“Hi!” Arisu’s eyes widened in a mixture of confusion and shock at your bright greeting and sunny smile. Chishiya was correct when he'd described him as cute, Arisu had wide, brown eyes that had a permanently lost look to them. His skin wasn't the clearest, dull from the stress of the games and his hair lay slightly flat on his head but still ruffled in a way that looked like he'd just rolled out of bed. His whole aura was endearing at first glance. The way he stuttered as he tried his best to introduce himself only sold you on him more.
“H-hello…” You giggled cutely, bending a leg up to your chest and hugging it, giving you an innocent look that you hoped would calm him.
“You looked a little lost, so thought I'd come over and introduce myself!”
“Oh, thank you. I'm just waiting for my friend. We got separated.” He bit his lower lip in worry, glancing around once again in hopes of finding who he was looking for. Taking pity on him, you decided to soothe his anxiety.
“Don't worry, they were just taken to get a wristband and beach clothes like you were. They'll turn up eventually.” Smiling reassuringly, you were rewarded with a shy smile in response. “What's your name cutie?”
Flushing a bright red Arisu introduced himself timidly, even holding out a hand for you to shake. Such a polite boy, ‘Shiya and I will have fun with that for sure.
“Nice to meet you Arisu!” You made sure to lean in closer to him as you took his hand in yours, squeezed gently and brushed your fingers against his as you let go.
“Nice to meet you…how long have you been at the beach?”
“Hmm, it's hard to say. We played a couple of games before someone brought us back here. It didn't take too long for us to climb the ranks.”
“You're in charge?”
You laughed, amused by his assumption. “God no! My boyfriend and I are executives but we try not to engage in petty drama. Our roles are more advisory than anything.” Arisu's face fell, gaze falling on his knees.
“Oh, you have a boyfriend.” The disappointment was obvious despite him trying to disguise it behind a casual comment. You giggled in amusement.
“Yeah…but don’t worry” You moved your face close to his, lips hovering close to his ear and whispered “we’re good at sharing.” Arisu gulped, his adams apple bobbing as a lovely pink flush trailed from his cheeks, down his slender neck and into his shirt. He gave a nervous but confused laugh, smiling awkwardly as if he wasn't sure if you were serious or not.
As you giggled, he couldn't quite meet your eye, choosing to fidget with his fingers or the edge of his swim shorts. You briefly wondered if he was like this around all women. Had he ever been kissed? Been touched before? Was he a virgin? The questions swam around your head, leaving you breathless at the possibility you and Chishiya could be many firsts for Arisu. Unfortunately you were interrupted by a quiet voice.
“Arisu?” It was a beautiful, petite woman with short hair and a wary expression as she took in your closeness to Arisu.
“Usagi!” He shot to his feet, clearly relieved to see his companion and introduced you briefly. Now his attention was focused on his friend and making sure she was alright, for the briefest moment you were jealous but the feeling was quickly replaced with satisfaction at realising just how loyal Arisu was. You had seen time and time again groups of individuals arriving at the beach only for them to be drawn into the hedonism it offered, ultimately abandoning the precious bonds formed in the games. It was a good thing Arisu had someone he could rely on completely. You only hoped his circle could expand to include Chishiya and yourself.
“Well I’ll take that as my queue to leave.” Arisu seemed disappointed by that, his hand twitching in your direction subconsciously before he pulled back and nodded reluctantly in understanding.
“Feel free to come and say hello if you’re ever alone. I'm usually with ‘Shiya.” You pointed towards your boyfriend who had been watching the entire time, he raised a hand and waved with a small smirk. Turning back to Arisu you watched as his eyes widened in recognition but didn’t give him a chance to respond as you fluttered your fingers goodbye and walked towards Chishiya with an extra sway in your hips.
Reaching the bar, he wrapped an arm around your waist and placed a kiss on your lips, his eyes never leaving Arisu before he smirked again, looking him up and down and leading you back into the hotel. It was extremely rare for Chishiya to engage in PDA, but this had been a unique situation so you let it slide without question. Glancing back one final time you watched as Arisu stared after the two of you with a dazed expression, flushed face and visible blunge showing through his swim shorts which he quickly adjusted before finally turning his attention back to Usagi as she said something you couldn't make out.
“So, what do you think?” Chishiya kept his hand around your waist, fingers tracing slow circles into your sun warmed skin. He had that cold, indifferent expression on his face but his voice betrayed his curiosity, his hope that Arisu had responded well to you.
“I think he's perfect, such a polite thing. You should have seen how prettily he blushed for me ‘Shiya!”
He chuckled at your excitement. “Guess it's my turn next. We'll see how he reacts to seeing me again.” You certainly liked that idea, and going off Arisu's reaction to seeing him again you thought that reaction would be a positive one.
“That sounds like a wonderful idea baby.”
