the greco-roman mythology nerds that get real serious about separating the greek from roman myths only when their favorite deity did something fucked up in a variant myth are annoying as hell.
they will bitch up a storm about using Athena and Poseidons names with the Roman Medusa myth but then exclusively use “Hercules” and never “Heracles” because they don’t care about differentiating the greek from the roman when it’s not to save their fav deity from bad rep.
don’t get me wrong, it is important to differentiate the myth variations, greek from roman, time period from time period, to know and acknowledge where/when which version of the myth being used is from for the preservation of history.
but i don’t care about retellings/inspired stories mixing the greek with the roman because the later stemmed of the former, the roman’s weren’t even that consistent with their name changes just look at Apollo, these two mythos are inseparable and i think expecting people who want to creatively explore them to separate them is insane.
especially if you only really care when a roman myth makes your favorite greek god look bad or vice versa.
PREACH!!!! sick and tired of people defending Athena about the Medusa and Arachne incidents and then ignoring everything that happened in the Illiad and Odyssey!!!!!
