the comic relief

yes, alright, you tell your jokes & do your bits. you break awkward silences & sing silly songs. but what about when you're not keeping the levity? what else makes up the person who makes others feel good? you're kind. you connect with people. you hate to see others sad. you have a vice or two--who doesn't--but the point is, you are the epitome of what it is to be human, & you are able to encompass the absolutely zany improbability of life as we know it. people are comforted by you. they cherish your spirit & relate to you. but it can be difficult when you're not laughing. comedy becomes a wall to keep worse feelings out, or in. a person who feels any emotion to the extreme will undoubtedly feel others the same way. laughing is great, but... perhaps a big reason you appreciate your family is because there's something you can't stand in a silence.

      he grins at that, rose-lips parting to reveal pretty-pearly points. glinting sharp, elongated canines on top and piercing lateral incisors on the bottom, meant to tear delicate flesh just like hers. he won’t, of course, it wouldn’t be very polite. ‘ exactly so ! i was born human and died one. some things are stronger than mortal death, like ancient blood. your human word is vampire, though, we aren’t so fond of it. ’ he pauses, flicks the pen in his fingers in thought. she’s not a dead thing, but it claws and clamours at her, clings to her scent sickly-sweet and deceptive. but he can hear her heart-hum and her blood surge and her breath hitch. all pretty pink in her cheeks, and warm to the touch. smells human, too. and something a little chemical, perfume. he inhales through his nose, tastes her smell on his tongue. and something he doesn’t recognize. ‘ i’ve bared my secrets. so, what creature comes so human-like ? ’

the  flash  of  fangs  has  her  blinking  stars  from  her  eyes,  shock  &  bewilderment  &  awe  leaving  her  eyes  wide  &  features  flushed  &  jaw  slack.  her  senses  return  a  moment  later  with  a  subtle  shake  of  the  head.  all  pleasantries  &  manners  seem  to  have  left  her  &  she  begs  forgiveness  with  a  chagrin  look  &  pitiful  smile.  she  can’t  seem  to  help  herself,  it  seems,  as  she’s  leaning  forward,  her  hand  still  tracing  the  barren  planes  of  his  wrist.  ❛ kindred... ❜  she  tries  out  the  word  for  herself  on  her  tongue,  feeling  foreign  &  unfamiliar.  of  course,  she’s  heard  of  such  night  creatures,  alive  yet  unalive-  perhaps  they  are  more  than  same  than  she  thought.  remembering  her  end  of  the  bargain,  she  shifts  in  her  chair,  straightening  as  she  brushes  a  strand  of  hair  from  her  features.  collecting  her  hands  in  front  of  her,  she  peers  at  him  for  a  moment  as  she  carefully  chooses  her  words.  how  to  explain...  in  less  words  but  with  more  meaning.  she  clears  her  throat  before  beginning. ❛ i died before i was born. i was never meant to be, you could say. but a god took pity on my mother’s dying wishes and so here i am. ❜  she  pauses  for  a  moment,  gnawing  on  her  lower  lip  before  continuing.  ❛ i’m not dead, but i’m not meant to be alive. a goblin bride, they call me. the ghosts, i see them. and other not alive things. otherwordly. things humans can’t. you’re my first though, kindred i mean. ❜  her  breath  catches  up  to  her-  oh  no,  she’s  rambling...
