Have a wonderful Friday! #catsofinstagram
the fact that this was written two years ago and it’s still relevant… what does that tell you?
You know how Chuck reacted to meeting the winchesters? What if he did accidentally create them? Like, he started writing his books to distract himself and, being god, the characters became real?
Basically, I love this idea.
When season 11 revealed that Amara was Chuck’s sister, it changed things in the show. BIG things. Like, the whole entire shows mytharc since day one things.
I’m actually not exaggerating here, hear me out please.
Okay, so what do we know about the “Winchester Gospels”? They were written to record the end times and the roles that Sam and Dean Winchester were supposed to play. Sam and Dean are the tragic siblings, manufactured by the angels to be the perfect vessels because they are in themselves mirrors for Michael and Lucifer on earth. The show spells it out for us thanks to Gabriel: “why do you think you two are the vessels? Think about it. Michael, the big brother, loyal to an absent father, and Lucifer, the little brother, rebellious of Daddy’s plan. You were born to this, boys. It’s your destiny! It was always you! As it is in heaven, so it must be on earth. One brother has to kill the other.”
So Dean is supposed to kill Sam as Michael killed Lucifer, one must destroy the other, the older sibling destroys the younger sibling for the sake of the world. That is what Chuck was writing about, Sam and Dean and their destiny in the apocalypse.
Now, Sam and Dean may have ripped up the ending, but that wasn’t the whole story, because Chuck has his own part in this giant mirror of a mirror. Because Michael and Lucifer weren’t even the original story. Chuck and Amara were.
Before creation, Chuck and Amara were siblings in chaos, I dunno if I imagined this or not but I am pretty sure that Amara calls Chuck her ‘big brother’ implying she is the younger sibling but I am not entirely sure on that so don’t quote me here. Nevertheless, we have two siblings, and in order to create the universe, one destroys the other. Chuck chooses creation over Amara, thus starting a millennia long series of events ending in Sam and Dean fighting it out on that day in Stull Cemetery.
Why therefore did Chuck hide away during the apocalypse? Why didn’t he reveal himself? Because he was ashamed at what he had done to his sister. Because the whole apocalyptic mess was his fault because of his guilt at choosing everything over her. So what does he do instead of fixing things? He writes.
Chuck wrote Dean Winchester to be himself. Dean is Chuck’s “Mary Sue”. (yes I damn well used that term.) And Sam? Sam is the sibling he gave up for the universe.
So when Chuck poured all of his love and guilt and sorrow over his sister into his new creation, Dean Winchester became everything that Chuck could not be. Dean Winchester will always put his brother before everything else in the entire universe. Because that is a fundamental part of Dean’s creation. Chuck wrote the Winchester’s specifically to undo his own tragic story. In his writing, Dean does not sacrifice Sam for the world, Dean always saves Sam. Even at the risk OF the world. Because Chuck’s biggest regret was not putting his sister first.
It all combines in a rather beautiful narrative symmetry doesn’t it?

That’s not even a crack theory, that’s a perfectly legitimate interpretation, and I want to read a dissertation on it.
I grew up in a lower-class background. My mother was a drifter who never had a fixed address and stayed in rooming houses. She sent me to live with my father, whose employment record was rather sketchy. Although in the end, he did manage to get a gig as a janitor that lasted for 20 years that he really liked. Everyone around me was always getting into some sort of trouble, falling into addictions that took over and ruined their lives. For some lucky reason, my drug of choice turned out to be books. I was never able to read with any restraint. I would drag home grocery bags of books from the library. I was one of those ridiculous kids who try to read while walking and fall off the sidewalk, step into dog poop and bang their heads on poles. I once tried to read while riding a 10-speed bicycle. The only thing that I would really get in trouble for at school was reading a book in class. I would read in the schoolyard while tennis balls bounced off my head. Reading ruined my social life. One day, I read an excerpt of Anne of Green Gables in a textbook at school. I asked my dad for the book as a Christmas gift. I loved the book so much that I read it three times in a row. I couldn’t get enough of it. I was left desperate and depressed each time that I got to the end of it. I saw there was a list of the titles of subsequent books in the Anne series written on the back cover. I asked my dad if he could buy me the second book, Anne of Avonlea, even though I had no birthday coming up. To my surprise, he agreed. He put on his sheepskin hat and I put on my bright red toque and we got on the bus together, heading downtown to Coles bookstore. When we got there, my dad told me I could buy every one of the collection. I couldn’t believe it. I rode home with a paper bag with the seven books on my lap. I looked in the bag and I thought: I’ve got Anne’s whole life in here. Her whole life! I read them all and it still wasn’t enough. I still wasn’t satisfied. I wanted to get inside of the books and interact with all the characters. I wanted to take a walk with Anne in our rubber boots discussing poetry, and to ride a boat together comparing flights of fancy. Around then, I started writing in journals and notebooks. I recorded everything that happened to me during the day. When you write, you are in dialogue with all the other writers who have ever written. That satisfied my craving. It fulfilled a yearning in myself. It made me feel happy and gave me a sense of belonging. It was like I’d found my community. Now I’m a professional writer. I think there is a tendency to romanticize the profession of a writer. I don’t see it as being any more wonderful than any of the other wonderful things that people do. It’s just what I was meant to do. I used to go to my dad’s workroom in the basement when he was a janitor. He had a little stool that he would sit on and repair things at. He would stay there working late. He had all these little jars, filled up with nails and screws, lined up on all his shelves. There were a thousand of them. Those jars were his poems. Those shelves were his short stories. The workshop was his novel.

It will be okay! Charlie Brotman has been hired by NBC4 to provide commentary to the parade coverage:
“Now, I’m all young and excited again,” Brotman said. “It’s a new day. Instead of talking to a few thousands people, I’m talking to a few million people.”
Ignis! Finally finished the set! \o/
I hope you like them!

Fun fact about these pools: the bluer the color the hotter it is. The red rim is the coolest part and the blue is the hottest. (THIS DOES NOT MEAN YOU SHOULD TOUCH THE RED RIM IT IS STILL SCALDING HOT)

Books with Asexual Main Characters
Hello! Your local mod here. A few months ago, I spent a lot of time researching books with asexual main characters and made a list of YA books with explicit rep. While making the list, I found lots of books that didn’t fit my requirements and had lots of requests to know what other books I found. I linked people to sources I used, but none 100% matched and there are at least four books that could be added. So I wanted something that had a wide range, could be updated, and could be shared easily. Hence, even though it doesn’t fully fit this blog, it’s going here!
This is a list of books in all age ranges. Some of the books have explicit representation - using the words or giving the definition without using the word - and some don’t. Some of them could be considered problematic. If you want more details on any of the books, feel free to message me privately. I’ll also be linking to the goodreads page for each book [links tk], so you can check reviews for feedback (it can be tricky, but see what shelves people add it too). I’ll also link my sources at the end of this post in case they update with things I don’t catch or they have details I didn’t include. And, as a final note, sometimes the asexual main characters aren’t main characters until later in a book series. In those cases, I’ll link to the first book and leave a note about which book has the main character.

As I said, this will be a continuously updated list. I’ll be adding in goodreads links now that the list is up (as long as tumblr allows), adding books that come up, and can move/remove books if anybody thinks they don’t fit, since most of this was research, not my actual reading list. So, feel free to message me with any comments or concerns and otherwise, enjoy!
Update #1: Links added; Running with the Pack, High and Tight, and More Than Enough added; Shock and Awe moved.
Update #2: A Gentleman’s Position, Aces, Into the Blue, The Last Chronomancer, Empty Net, The King’s Peace, The Galloway Road, A Word and a Bullet added.
Update #3: Sea Foam and Silence, A Promise Broken, Feather by Feather and Other Stories, and Texture Like Sun added.
Update #4: I marked books I was fairly sure explicitly used words with **; I added [#ownvoices] to books with out ace/aro authors; Bone Diggers and Accepting Me added.
