Journey Update!

This morning, I left for Atlantic City to compete in Miss America! What? I keep having to convince myself that this is real life because it just doesn’t feel real. My journey to Miss America has been long, challenging, and so rewarding. Ten years ago, I competed in my first Outstanding Teen Pageant. Now, here I am, after a decade of involvement within the Miss Oklahoma Organization, representing my incredible state at the Miss America Pageant. An experience that first seemed so far out of reach and one that took countless hours of hard work, preparation, and incredible amounts of growth to get to. However, I wouldn’t trade these years for anything! I can now be in Atlantic City knowing that the steps behind me have only prepared and propelled me to be my absolute best in the steps ahead. 

Ever since June 11 of this year, I have been living my dream as Miss Oklahoma and taking every day to better myself for the job of Miss America. This job is 100% service which perfectly aligns with the true desire of my heart. Every day is the best day because I am fully in my element, in a position that took years to finally achieve. Preparation for Miss America has of course consisted of practicing for every phase of competition, but for me personally, it has been preparing my mind and my heart to take over the position of Miss America. 

Now, I am here and I am so excited for these next two weeks! I am ready to soak in every moment, make friendships with the other 51 amazing women, and do my very best of representing Oklahoma. So, all of the preparation is done and now it’s time to apply it and trust that the Lord has it taken care of already! I am at peace knowing that there is a plan and purpose in everything. Thank you to all of my family, friends, sponsors, board members, and mentors for loving me and believing in me! It’s GO time!!

One time a teddy bear was sent over in a care package to a troop who used that bear to befriend a 7 year old Iraqi girl. Because of their relationship formed, she warned him and his fellow troops of an explosive device that was in their direct path that day. Through my platform, our heroes’ lives have been saved and this is exactly why I do what I do. Our troops deserve the utmost respect, care and support. #supportourtroops #missamerica #platform #missoklahoma

When first learning how to live a healthy lifestyle, I had to challenge myself to commit. I love this quote above because it motivates me to go for it, to choose to live a healthy and happy life. I played a lot of sports growing up, including club volleyball, basketball, track, tennis, cheer, and golf. Because of my coaches and teammates, I was challenged everyday to push myself harder, to run faster, to jump higher, and to get stronger. Because of these experiences, I have always loved the challenge of reaching goals that first seemed impossible. However, I find it extremely difficult to live a healthy lifestyle without the accountability and support of trainers, friends, and family. What I realized several years ago was that I stayed driven due to the people around me encouraging me to do so. Find people who motivate you, who believe in you, and who challenge you to take the leap. Fill your body with the proper fuel and you will go far, I promise.

I am #inspiredby the children I come in contact with during my mission trips. Having been on ten mission trips now to countries including Mexico, Honduras, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Peru, I have seen the hurt, the poverty, and the destruction some have faced. Having the opportunities to visit schools and communities in villages, and spending time with the children has impacted my life forever. As an educator, my heart craves to love on children, bring them hope, and build their confidence. Except, the kids in these specific countries did just that for me. Although they have no food, clothing, shelter, and some without families, the hope in their hearts, the smile on their faces, and the light in their eyes has proven to me over and over that our joy does not come from our current circumstances. These sweet kiddos inspire me to find joy in the small things, to not dwell on the negatives, not worry about tomorrow but make the most of the daily situation you're in. It's amazing that when you give out of yourself and share the Lord's love to those who are hurting, you in turn experience the greatest amount of love and fulfillment. I will forever feel called to travel the world in hopes of spreading love and hope to those who are trapped in darkness and despair. The blessings we have here in america (because of the efforts of our troops) need to be shared and used to make a bigger impact in the world we live in. The inspiration I find on every mission trip keeps the flame burning inside my heart to continue serving and using the platform I now have as Miss Oklahoma to make a change.
