Who's the Boss?
With the trade deadline looming, hockey fans await details of a trade involving Columbus Blue Jackets’ captain, Rick Nash. But what if a trade doesn't take place?
Weeks ago Nash requested a trade and evidently provided the management with a list of 5 teams that he would be willing to be traded to.
With multiple years still remaining on Nash's contract, it's not unreasonable to assume at this point that Scott Howson, general manger, isn't hearing offers that he feels are appropriate in exchange. The organization could potentially wait until the post-season to find a suitable home for Nash and in return acquire something that will benefit the team. As a reminder, Columbus is under no obligation to sacrifice the future of their organization (whatever that may be) to appease the elite forward.
I sincerely hope that the Blue Jackets are not overvaluing him as so many teams seem to do with their players as of late; however, I applaud the organization if they don't settle for less than they deserve.
Let's remember, the player signs the contract with the intent on remaining in that organization. The team is not required to accommodate their request for a trade.
So as a result... this is likely to be the most boring trade deadline ever.
