I, personally, ADORE the concept of Step-Dad John. He describes Faroe so lovingly in the diner and it doesn’t even seem like it’s solely for Arthur’s benefit, he beams with pride for her like she’s his very own. He loves her. After all, this Faroe, the one who had been snatched from the birthday party, is the person who inspired him to be good again. The mental image of her, alone, surrounded by the corpses of the people she loved was what called him back from the brink of his madness and reduced him to tears. He’s nervous to be introduced to her. He says he needs more time. It reads exactly like a father trying to find a good time to introduce his child to his new partner, whether platonic or no. John wants to have the perfect introduction to her because he loves her and he’s scared she won’t love him back.
