On the movement of the solar system: well yes, we know this. Basically we usually represent the solar system in terms of looking down on them from above so people can learn the ordering, but you have to remember that the sun isn't some stationary star in the middle of the milky way galaxy. It's moving! And we, those planets orbiting around it, must follow along with it due to gravity. Any rotating circle moving through space makes spirals, so we do too.

hah. Here's the group I took on a tour today. 4 couples from KY, all with aniversaries in August. For 11 years, they've taken a trip to commemorate *matrimony* anyway, they were sweet and attentive and let me take this picture.

took myself out to lunch after tour guidin'. Ate Mexican food and watched Spain play soccer. Went skating in a graveyard where the headstones are all 1890s and wondered if the Howards knew them. The leaves were already falling under this giant elm and I sat long enough the sparrows forgot me. Skated to the Ohio and found an English Bulldog that needed pets: sun setting over the river.

Awhile back I did an interview with my favourite queer news website Autostraddle about comics and kissing ladies and it was awesome. The interviewer Intern Grace and I became fast friends afterwards, and then just this week she sent me a care package of AS goodies (including a sweet shirt!) and treats from her hometown!

…And I decided to get totally sexy with them I guess?! I like the sticker especially because it is good advice.

Got Chinese take-out for ONE and watched Electric Shadows. Great hot and sour soup and learned a wee bit about Chinese movies from the 70s. Golden era movies everywhere!

Many students, especially those who are poor, intuitively know what the schools do for them. They school them to confuse process and substance. Once these become blurred, a new logic is assumed: the more treatment there is, the better are the results; or, escalation leads to success. The pupil is thereby “schooled” to confuse teaching with learning, grade advancement with education, a diploma with competence, and fluency with the ability to say something new. His imagination is “schooled” to accept service in place of value. Medical treatment is mistaken for health care, social work for the improvement of community life, police protection for safety, military poise for national security, the rat race for productive work. Health, learning, dignity, independence, and creative endeavor are defined as little more than the performance of the institutions which claim to serve these ends, and their improvement is made to depend on allocating more resources to the management of hospitals, schools, and other agencies in question.

got a letter from Mom today full of pictures I'd forgotten about and some that were new to me. This is one of my very favorites of Grandpa. from "Korean war camp." One of my favorite stories he tells from it: "And my mother wrote me at the time, frantic: Jim, tell me now, are you in much danger? And I wrote back: Yes! The barstools here are very tall!"  He never was deployed.
