what do we think about this?

i never thought of the difference between their relationships like this. i am a die hard spuffy fan, and honestly am a bit hurt that even SMG is rooting for angel.

and i’ve always been curious about the “soul” aspect. why was spike able to empathize, but angeles wasn’t? they were both sired similarly. i would say spike’s intro to vamp-hood may have been even more brutal, given that he had not only darla but her two prodigies too. or is it about how they were raised as children? where does nature and nurture fall in the conversation?

also! people with souls can kill too, right? serial killers and all. do they have a similar guilt trips, but not all at once like a vamp?

so many questions. please let me know your thoughts?

ahhh, father’s day…

another crossroads where i judge myself harshly for not being a better daughter, despite the fact that my father left us when i was 9 months old, periodically jumped back in while drunk and mentally abusive, & has now decided to make an active attempt to be a good father; while still drinking occasionally, lowkey judging me for having panic attacks any time he does so in front of me, and pretending that’s okay ‘cause he doesn’t have a “problem” anymore.

and yet - here i am, feeling guilty because i’m not a “good” daughter. that i can’t muster the capacity to give him a call or spend any time with him in general, let alone today.

but the truth is… i’m still working on the scars he’s given me. i’m still trying to be a better human, a better version of myself and i haven’t stopped. just because he’s ready to rebuild our relationship, doesn’t mean i am. and that also doesn’t mean i don’t want to. boundaries are important & they don’t just go away because of a day dedicated to dads.

but as much as he’s a person who hurt me, one of two people who are supposed to love and care for me eternally, he’s also the dad who raised me to enjoy all the weird parts of myself that others are usually taught to hate or suppress. whether he knew it or not, he gave me the space to be my neurodivergent self (- any meltdowns) without judgment, shame, or hate. i will always be thankful for what he’s taught me. it’s saved me from another hurtle of loving myself in therapy.

it’s made me a better person, to encourage more self-love and be a safe place for people to give themselves the permission to be their truest selves. to drop that mask without fear of judgment, and not have to push through social interactions if they don’t want to. where their social batteries are respected and not an inconvenience. he gave me the foundation, and i ran with it. right now, that’s the only thing i can thank him for.

i am not ready to celebrate a day for my father. and that doesn’t mean i’m a bad daughter.
