As a woman who has had an abortion, the whole “pro-choice isn’t pro-abortion ” line is frustrating and hurtful.
Being pro-choice IS pro-abortion. And pro-adopting out and pro-parenthood. It encompasses all those choices.
Yeah, anti-choicers try to reduce the pro-choice message by using pro-abortion. But abortion has been stigmatized far worse than the other choices. We need to show our support.
I’m pro-abortion, because that IS part of being pro-choice. And that doesn’t make me ashamed.
Visual Artist: Loribelle Spirovski
Loribelle Spirovski is a 26-years-old artist currently based in Sydney. Born in Manila to a Filipino mother and Serbian father, Spirovski came to Australia at age eight. Since graduating from the College of Fine Arts in Sydney in 2012, her work has focussed primarily on portraiture. She has been a finalist in many prestigious art awards such as the Portia Geach Memorial Prize and has been the “one to watch” since her entry in the Archibald Prize in 2016.
In my practice, I have found that portraiture enables me to reflect through the sitter, who becomes a conduit for both their own anxieties, as well as mine. My practice is an attempt to externalize internal conflict, contrasting movement and stillness to create an unsettling effect, evoking a surreal and dreamlike quality.

We all need to pay attention to this.
There’s been a lot of discussion surrounding Donald Trump and the so-called “alt-right” (which is basically a term for white nationalism) in the weeks that have passed since the 2016 election. Many members of the white nationalist group have been outspoken Trump supporters, including the founder of the movement itself, Richard Spencer. Trump has also appointed Steve Bannon as his chief strategist — a man who has been heavily associated with the “alt-right.”
The “alt-right” is known for its extremist and racist views, as well as being severely anti-Semitic. It seems like the association between the Trump campaign and neo-Nazis won’t be broken any time soon, as his chosen national security advisor, General Mike Flynn, recently met with Heinz-Christian Strache — the head of Austria’s far-right Freedom Party, which was established by former Nazis after World War II.
The Freedom Party was originally created to be a safe haven for Nazis and Nazi sympathizers after World War II and the Holocaust. In the ‘80s, Jörg Haider became its leader, and the party took a turn toward right-wing populism with a strong anti-immigration stance. As the New York Times explains, today, the party is “anti-foreigner, anti-Islam and anti-globalization” making it an appealing party for Europe’s far-right — much like the white nationalist “alt-right” in the U.S.
It should be obvious that this meeting between Trump’s National Security Advisor and the leader of a neo-Nazi movement is extremely alarming. This meeting calls back to the words of representatives from the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, who spoke out after the “alt-right” held a chilling conference in Washington D.C. praising Trump. They reminded us, through their statement, that the Holocaust didn’t begin with killing – it began with words.
Well we know which Magazine is getting shutdown on January 21st. Cause Teen Vogue is on fire with how much they hate Trump and it is commendable.
Teen Vogue’s editor in chief is Elaine Welteroth!
she’s the youngest editor in chief and the second black woman to hold such a title in the history of Conte Nast publishing.

BLACK GIRLS ARE EVERYTHING
I noticed something very different today, as someone who’s regularly attended rallies and marches since the age 13.
White femininity’s perceived peacefulness is intrinsically linked to how the State views and treats nonwhite femininities and masculinities. It’s very interesting how a predominately white women march today received the least intervention and suspicion from state apparatuses like the police.
Identical political marches with identical demands for autonomy, dignity, mobility and reproductive justice (a political term coined by black women scholars) have been led by black women but the State response to such assemblages is starkly different. Much harsher. The level of scrutiny and penalty goes above and beyond that which predominantly white assemblages face.
So while, yes, there is strength in numbers and other pleasant axioms, there is also strength in rigorously questioning why you are not viewed as a threat, why your default status is not seen as a deviance from the norm, why you receive such kindness and others don’t.
