"Hi there headmistress," The young woman greeted, "How are you this evening?"
"Good evening, miss Monroe." The mistress replied. "I am faring well. And yourself?"

An Unexpected Encounter || Open
The late afternoon hours were McGonagall's favorite. It was never too hot or too cool during those hours, and thanks to her sessions having been over for the day, she could spend them by taking a stroll on the school grounds and enjoy such pleasant weather. However, as her graceful strides led her down a hill near the Black Lake, a strange, high-pitched cry caught her attention. She turned her gaze toward the direction from which it came, her eyes narrowed in suspicion. The noise certainly didn't sound human.
She stood there a moment, debating on whether or not she should investigate the sound on her own, or if she should even pay any mind to it at all. Though with it being so close to the school, she probably shouldn't simply leave it be, especially if it turned out to pose a danger to the students. With a small inward sigh, the mistress lifted the hem of her robes slightly and hastened off toward the lake.
The sight that greeted her took her by surprise as she came to a halt just a few yards away from the shore. Within the shallow water, collapsed upon the soil, was a merperson, rolled over on its side and breathing haggardly. Aside from the shock of actually seeing the creature so close to the shore and out of the water's depths where the merpeople resided, she then took note of the striking injury on its tail. This was a very odd circumstance to behold indeed. What could have been so powerful and swift as to land a blow against this creature, and so fearsome as to have driven it to shore?
The woman stood there, contemplating on the course of action she should take. Should she help the creature or leave it be? What good would come of assisting it? Should she alert someone else to handle the situation? Then again, if she left to find someone else, the merperson might die before they reached it. Its kind could not last for very long in such shallow water, and that wound probably wouldn't allow it to swim.
"I must be out of my senses," she said with a tone of defeat before she approached the creature. As she neared it however, it caught the sound of her footsteps and snapped its gaze toward her. Baring its sharp teeth at her, it gave a threatening hiss, clearly distrusting of the woman. Minerva paused in her steps and gave a huff, "Calm yourself. You certainly won't get any help from me with an attitude like that." She said sternly. These words, though above water, were understood by the mer, and its eyes widened slightly, a look of confusion seeming to cross its face.
"That's better. Now be nice." Minerva said as she approached once more, soon closing the distance between herself and the creature. It blinked up at her before turning its gaze toward the gash on its tail, giving a faint growl. McGonagall's eyes followed. "What could have done this to you?" She mused, more to herself than the mer. With a sigh, she withdrew her wand, causing the creature to flinch before it realized that she meant to heal its wound. "Vulnera Sanentur," she murmured, her wand aimed at the injury. Slowly, the flow of blood began to decrease.
As the mistress tended to the merperson, she almost failed to notice another pair of approaching footsteps.

"Miss Granger?" Minerva said, her voice slightly higher pitched as she hurried over to the unconscious student. Placing the back of her hand against Hermione's forehead, she paled at the coldness of the touch and yelled toward the nearest person to help her carry the girl to the hospital wing, where she checked frequently on the progress of her student's returning health for the rest of the evening.
It started when Hermione began to feel a bit under the weather. Plenty of her classmates had told her she should just go to the hospital wing, but she refused, appalled by the idea of missing her classes. By the time dinner came around, she felt horrid. As she was on her way to the Great Hall, she stumbled against the door and collapsed to the ground.
She awoke in the hospital wing, very much confused and disoriented. Hermione tried to sit up, but was quickly told to lay back down by Madame Pomfrey, who explained what had happened to her before asking her some questions about how she had been feeling throughout the day.
Hearing the door open, Hermione looked over to see Professor McGonagall. Listening to the teacher scold her, Hermione winced slightly, but knew it was true. âIâm sorry, Professor,â she said softly, âI really didnât think it was that bad. Iâm sorry if I worried you.â Hermione coughed, sighing with relief as her throat finally cleared. âI donât know what could have made me this ill,â she thought aloud, âI felt perfectly fine yesterday.â
Her gaze softened after a moment of silence. "Well... At least you are regaining your strength. Get enough rest and who knows; you might be completely ready to return to class by tomorrow." She responded before giving a small "hmmm" at the girl's musing. "Well, it could have been anything. An unpleasant reaction to something you ate or came in contact with would be my best guess, considering it does not appear to be long-lasting."

The mistress made her way down to the hospital wing after her classes were over for the evening. As she entered the chamber, she felt a feeling of relief sweep over her as she saw that Hermione was awake and regaining her health nicely. As she approached the girl, however, her tone of voice took on a more stern nature. "As a young lady of good sense, I would have expected you to check with the nurse when you were not feeling well, miss Granger. I understand that your studies are important to you, but they will not do you any good if you are unable to function properly due to illness."

Though Minerva will never know the trials and joys of motherhood, the time she spends with her students is really all she needs. Though she guides them with a firm hand and possesses little maternal nature, she views every one of them as one of her own, in a way. It provides a sense of fulfillment for her. Her students are the children that she never had.
"All you have to do is ask him. Iâm not stopping you," she smirked, turning from Minerva to walk a ways away from her.
"Ah, but you see, then there's the matter of leaving you here unsupervised." She responded, folding her arms over her chest.
"Yes. We are enemies, because I don't want you to win this game," Narcissa crossed her arms. "You have no idea about personal space, do you?"
"You're one to talk," She huffed in return, eyebrows lowering. "Unless I am to get confirmation from your son, how can I believe that your reason for being here is valid?" She asked.
