"Yes just like me" he shook his head like a wet dog, messing his hair up again.
Oris face got a bit sad from both the playful scene and Mollys question. āUsually we donāt mention it butā he did not need to add āyou belong to the familyā instead moved a bit closer to her āthe ring on my brothers finger, the mismatched one, was a present from Bifur. They were just as close as we are, closer if itās possible.ā He put his head on her shoulder, watching Dori play with his former lovers hair, ignoring everything around them āBut then the news came that Bifur got injured and since thenā¦ā
Molly wrapped her arms around him, listening quietly.Ā
"ā¦If you donāt mind me askingā¦how did the axeā¦well you know?"
All day she had wondered that, and she was glad she hadnāt asked Dori. Sometimes, while she brushed out his hair, if she got too close Bifur would grunt out a warning. Or flinch. Which seeing him do so was like seeing a bear whimper.
For a while Bifur had paid no mind to Molly, or now Ori who he was clearly aware of. He was just focused on Dori; sometimes opening his mouth to laugh, squinting his eyes happily. But with Bifur nowadays the happiness never lasted. Grumbling in old tongue, his mind blanked for a moment. The thought of; āWhere might Bofur be?ā or even Bombur did not cross. Instead he sat quietly letting bits of thought process.
Molly looked down at Ori, raising her brows. āHe did that a lot today. Was very excitable and moving around then just stopped. Is thatā¦.I mean normal for him?ā
Ori returned the hug while watching his brothers face sadden at Bifurs blackout. āI know not all the details but it seems he was out in the woods searching for material for toys, or looking for something else neither knows. No one knew there were Orcs around so he went alone. Well thereĀ where Orcs and they attacked him. That is all I know. As for those⦠phases⦠they werenāt that frequent in the past. I hope it is a good sign but we all fear otherwise⦠especially Dori still hopes through. Even when he does not dare to show itā
Dori absently put a few more stray hairs behind Bifurs ear, he was aware of Oris presence and could hear him faintly talking to his girlfriend. He wasnāt able to understand everything but he heard enough. He did not need to listen to it - he had dreamed of those days often enough. Bofur on his doorstep and one look had been enough to know something was terribly wrong. Then Bifur and how he seemed to remember but donāt remember at all. And how they had told him he would never be the same again.
"ā¦Why donāt you get someone to just remove it?"
Maybe they had tried? Maybe they had asked? Molly didnāt know but it seemed like the only logical thing to do. Seeing Dori sad, even though theyād just met, broke her heart.
That day had been awfulā¦and even now Bofur could not look at the older dwarf the same. Well, he couldnāt look at either of them the same way. Bifur seemed to space off, looking at his hands as if Dori wasnāt there. It took a few terribly long moments for him to realize someone was so close to him. Bifurās eyes widened a moment, but he recognized a friend- well at least not an enemy right now.
"ā¦And Dori is still there for him. Thatās so sad and..sweet and..oh gods.."
"We searched for someone but all we asked said the risk was too high, that he would die" He watched the ring of hurt in Doris eyes after seeing Bifurs first reaction and turned his head to hide his face in Mollys neck "of course he is still there for him, he loves him no matter if Bifur remembers or not."
Dori handed Bifur his keg with tea smiling as bright as possible, it sometimes took a bit until the other was back to āfriendsā terms again but here they were. Bifur was not completely cautious and already seemed at least friendly. It was getting better. It had to get better. After all this time, it just HAD to get better one day.
"Don't hit me for this but Ori..." She moved to look him in the eye. "Did you ask everyone? And I mean everyone?"
She was certainly hinting something. In the other room Bifur was smelling his tea more curiously than cautious. He eyed Dori for a moment, before throwing it back; little rivers of tea running down his beard. They all hoped it would get better.
Molly kept her voice low but it seemed like she was screaming when the word elf came to play.
"Did you ask for elvish advice?"
Like screaming fuck in front of one's grandmum. Bifur leaned to the side in his chair, recognizing the word enough to give her an awfully strange look.
"They might know a thing or..two?"
