It was 1:30 am. Your location was in the grasp of your lover, his arms firmly wrapped under your chest. After a moment of being awake, he awoke as well.

“Baby, why’re you up?” He mumbled, his accent peaking out in his sleepy voice.

“I just…I had a nightmare,” you finally let out. McCarty sighed softly and sat up, running his hands through his frizzy hair.

“Alright, C’mere,” he sighed and patted his chest invitingly.

You lovingly rested your head on his chest. He smiled and gently massaged your scalp.

“You have nightmares frequently?”

You shook your head.

“Not often, but the recent events are an influence.”

McCarty hummed.

“You know I have loads of guns in my possession and I’m not inexperienced with weaponry.”

You gently traced patterns on his forearm. “I know…I just get anxious.”

“How can I soothe your anxiety then?”

You thought for a moment.

“Could you maybe put one of your pistols on your nightstand?”

McCarty chuckled. “Way ahead of you, kiddo.”

He opened the drawer to his nightstand and pulled out his pistol, playfully spinning it.

“Soothe you a bit?”

You couldn’t help but smile. “Yeah.”

“Good.” He stretched his arms before lying back down for sleep, still letting you rest on his chest.

“Love you, kiddo,” he smiled.

“I love you too, McCarty.”
