So, this is a bit keeper critical but

have you guys noticed anything about the kotlc books being kinda misogynistic? I mean they say that sexism doesn't exist, but Ive noticed that in almost all cases the wife takes the husband's last name (they might have different reasons, like Juliene) but its still almost always his last name and not hers. Also they way the moms are written compared to the dads kinda irks me. In Unlocked it (the registry files) talks about how they also partake in noble assignments form the council or whatever, but in the books the only thing they do is like bake mallowmelt, and be like "I'm a lot tougher than I look" *cough Della (and maybe even Edaline tbh)* And I do see how maybe this is yet another issue that they will realize when they realize that the lost cities aren't this utopia they always believed they were, but I feel like its deeper than that and maybe Shannon doesn't realize? I mean I recently realized that all my favorite characters are male (not saying there's anything wrong with them) but this never happens (bc Im a man hater-- im working on that). I feel like thats because the female characters are so severely underdeveloped (other than Sophie, but she kinda has to be, as the main character). Like I literally know more about Tam's character than I do about Biana or Marella, and he was introduced in what, book 5? ALSO the type of "development" they get kinda pisses me off. Like when we (the readers) are supposed to respect a female character, Shannon reveals that surprise the girly elf who loves pink and sparkles and pretty dresses actually doesn't care about any of that silly stuff and only seems to like it in order to be underestimated *cough Oralie* and also even Biana (but to a lesser extent). Speaking of Biana, omg we were so robbed. There was so much potential to really go into the internal conflict she was going through (about her scars, and about the Alvar situation) and a lot of space for Sophie to be a good friend, and explore and strengthen their bond. But noooo. The problem isn't that we don't have enough cool female characters -- we definitely do, but they are just (in my opinion) so freaking undeveloped and two dimensional.

I feel like you can’t read KOTLC and be racist, homophobic, transphobic, sexist, pro ice, pro maga, or pro Trump, pro AI, pro Israel, and etc

Let me say this before people take this out of context. You can believe whatever you want to believe. You can stand for whatever you want because that’s YOUR decision.

(But highkey if you do support anything I listed pls unfollow me. I am sadly not the type to ignore political opinions. Political opinions say a lot about you as a person and I don’t feel comfortable with people following me and being friends with me when highkey they’re supporting dehumanizing me and stripping my rights. Please and thank you)

You can’t read KOTLC and have delusions that the elves would be by your side. They would not be. They’re quite literally doing the opposite of what they stand for. They aren’t meant to be discriminatory. Not to mention Sophie Foster is technically an immigrant by moving from the human lands to the elf lands. She would not nor would any of the other elves support Ice or anything else I listed. They might not agree with EVERYTHING (sexuality wise cuz the elves just hate genuine love) but they doesn’t mean they would be parading and hate crime you. Thats insane. They said what they stood for in the first book and you can see it throughout the series.

I see a lot of Christian’s preaching about the Bible without truly understanding the scriptures. Elves wouldn’t believe in Christianity because, EVERYONE SAY IT WITH ME, they’re not religious!!! Religion is only something you see in the human worlds. So for religious people to throw in their verses and say “hmmm actually that’s sinful! And for Shannon to write that in the elf world is-“ Yeah to you. Not the elves pookie wookie bear. If you’re reading a book about love and ur first thought is “oh ew what would jesus say” 🧍 pls unfollow me rn. Shannon is writing a book about being different and learning to love yourself even if the world is against it. It’s showing the discriminations of how love is being used for intellectual purposes (whether self love or romantic) than emotional purposes. That’s why there is a gap in the lost cities. That’s where there’s conflict. She’s quite literally telling us that it’s the people who are different, who stand up for what they believe in, whether or not society agrees with them, because it’s the right thing to do. To stand up with the underdogs. To fight for the right to love and live and be WHO you are.

Dont project your close minded propaganda on communities where it’s preaching the opposite.
