The Season of Secret Sex is so funny to me because of the way that it's just an accepted thing in fandom spaces with its own standardized title. In any other fandom, if I was constantly seeing people talking about, "that time where these two characters were hooking up in secret" I would probably assume that they got together but had to hide it to keep working together. But no, in the X Files, you hear about it, and then you actually get there and find out that the sex is also secret from the audience. It's also very real and absolutely happened

Virtue & Moir - Free Dance 2009
For my next throwback watch I wanted to find a Virtue & Moir program I hadnāt seen before. I was out of the skating loop in 2010 and was pleasantly surprised to discover these two at the Vancouver Olympics, so a 2009 program was fresh to me.
This is their Pink Floyd Free Dance and itās hard not to compare it to Chock & Bates Pink Floyd from last year. Even though Virtue & Moir are so young here their material is really hard and their skating is fast - even in hold.
Those lifts! You barely get to appreciate one position and they are transitioning into their next position. The Goose lift in its early days.
When Bock used Pink Floyd music it felt slow and stale, so itās interesting that this program doesnāt feel that way at all. It feels more raw and edgy. Their movements are original.
One issue - the costumes. Is this the same Tessa who went through 3-4 costumes a season? I can totally believe Scott would wear an all black costume that could have been practice clothes. (Evidently there was a story behind this - check out the comments)
Here they are 19/20 - oh that younger skaters could even be considered in the current line up. Marjorie and Zak are still calling themselves the āsuper kidsā at 25.
The commentator called the program ādaringā and I would agree. Itās such a great contrast with their Mahler program the next season where they are polished and classical.
Loved this! So glad I still have new Virtue Moir programs to catch up on!

From what I recall, the first time I saw 'rainbow capitalism' from a big brand was this image from Oreo in 2012.
It created a lot of controversy. Calls for boycotts and such. But Oreo didn't take it down. They were unapologetic and didn't try to appease the homophobes or backtrack.
And I know this sounds weird, but it was like a shift. Proof that public opinion or acceptance of queerness was widespread enough for a company to consider it profitable.
My first was also in 2012. J.C. Penney ran an ad where two dads were sitting on the floor with their kids and people lost their damn MINDS:
There was a boycott because theyād āabandoned traditional values.ā Apparently gay men donāt wear department store shirts.
People need to get over this phase of abandoning fandoms so fast. There are 70 year old women still into Spirk and you people canāt hold onto a man for a month. Shape up and stop abandoning your gently used blorbos in wet cardboard boxes on the side of the highway after a week
