The KoG discourse surrounding merch is an interesting bag to me because.

On the one hand it displays how a lot of people think leftism means getting free stuff. They want to be compensated for their labor but don’t engage with the fact that they’re demanding things that are built on labor and thus have similar needs. Meaning animation is going to take longer and/or require financial support. Commissions cost money!

And it’s not a dissimilar principle to fundraisers where people raise awareness of how X needs support but always expect other people to provide that support and it results in a bystander effect. That needs to be acknowledged. The reason why Glitch is succeeding, why it can have multiple shows going, isn’t because of the power of Heart it’s because they took the time to calculate an actual business model that can sustain these projects and their crews in this economy.

On the other hand, I feel that between a corporation and a thousand smaller businesses. If neither is concerned about their environmental impact, then either party will probably produce about the same amount of plastic waste in the end. Having several smaller businesses is better anyway and it means a better chance at holding individual entities accountable for their environmental impact of course, which then sends a message to the rest to follow suit.

But it does make me think of the merch because while we don’t know the ethics behind how things like plushies are made, plastic is plastic and I think the merch selection could benefit from less of it. And it’s one of those things where ultimately this is why people emphasize supporting green businesses while keeping their money from those that aren’t as conscious.

So the obvious solution that reconciles both of these points is that we need to show that being eco friendly is the profitable way to go. So if we want to support the show via merch then we need to invest in the type of merch that’s like, biodegradable material such as paper in prints or art books, yknow? While conveying a point to Glitch that plastic merch is less profitable and needs to be produced less and less.

Andi's "just a hunch" moment isn't talked about ENOUGH imo. I feel like she simultaneously wants to impress Frankie and protect her hopes & dreams AND she wants to protect her own pride in not figuring it out herself.

Frankie's eyes do light up to when she asks "oh what fixed it?" because in my opinion... FRANKIE WAS HOPING THAT HER SUGGESTION WORKED- WHICH IT DID!!
