IsFad + Hands
adil with fadime & eleni | carry you: youtu.be/f6JBWFyeFIU
adil and his girls is one of my fav dynamic of the show and it goes all three ways. he loves them to bits and always shows up for them but this also goes for them. adil is their red line. but also fadime eleni also have such a warm tender relationship - i really hope they give them more space bec lately, it’s just not been there.
I planned on doing a short edit but then there’s so much to love when it comes to them and it was a pain for me to actually leave out things. i love these three so much, i need them to have more scenes together.
ERDEM ŞANLI & ZEYNEP ATILGAN TAŞACAK BU DENIZ | 20. BÖLÜM
i think probably my fav thing about taşacak bu deniz is the platonic relationships. it’s kryptonite for me and i love how they all play out: adil fadime, adil eleni, esme eleni, esme fadime, fadime eleni, adil iso, esme iso as well (sorry, i don’t vibe with oruc in any capacity). they’re all so tender while being so layered and it adds to the richness of the story.
i was reading this tweet about adil and fadime where the op wrote adil as fadime’s north star who never fringes on fadime’s boundaries. the more i think about it the more i love it bec adil is the reason why fadime is so self assured, capable, and independent. he gave her the confidence to do and be anything without trying to limit her because she’s a woman; without ruling over her like tbd patriarchal culture implies. she’s her own person and adil is there to support and witness her grow up to the woman she is.
fadime can protect herself and also protect him - adil doesn’t doubt it or deny her either. he never violates her boundaries. adil would walk into esme’s space without knocking but for fadime or eleni, he always gives them their privacy and space. he tries to understand them and where they’re coming from even if fadime came back literally married or eleni liking an unavailable/unsuitable man.
when zarife said fadime is kocari’s heart, she wasn’t wrong. the road to adil goes through fadime, first and foremost. she’s the reason he was able to get through those long 20 years; through the grief of his parents’ death, through esme’s abandonment. adil pushed through because little fadime was there and she needed him. he stepped up for her in every way possible and she became his anchor long before anyone else.
this is also why fadime is the only one who has truly seen Adil go through his grief. they know each other best - she knows when he’s sad and lonely, same as he knows when she’s breaking apart even if she’s joking around. honestly my favourite part is that adil doesn’t hide his grief from her - yes, he tries to put on a brave face but he’s still honest. he’s not protecting her from his pain but rather he just lets it be. which basically means he’s been leaning on her too when he’s hurting; that’s why she’s so tuned in to his emotions too. all fadime needs is to look at him and know he’s not okay. this is the only reason why fadime knows his history with esme and how he has been hurting for 20 years.
anyway, the point of this post was to say that i love the complexity and depth of platonic relationships and i hope tbd team doesn’t destroy or diminish them for any reason whatsoever.
Taşacak Bu Deniz | 1.11
i'm not aro but i find it so annoying whenever i see a well-written, tight-knit friendship & people immediately jump to "they're dating/poly/qpr" like NO. they are FRIENDS. are we familiar with that concept? and it's getting to the point where i am genuinely afraid to write complex friendships because i don't want people to be like "oh this relationship is Too Meaningful to just be platonic" like no??? it's meaningful because it's platonic. ugh
Hate what they've done to my girl esme çavuş, she was so formidable (adil is still rightfully scared of her and I love that) to the point that even the furtunas were scared of her. She literally shot adil in the first episode, threatened zarife and şerif too in the initial episodes but now she's just busy trying to keep adil from killing serif and going back to that god awful furtuna mansion on a daily basis. The thing is we KNOW esme is smart, she's not the same naive and scared girl she was when the furtunas manipulated her into marrying şerif (at least I'd hope so). I love LOVED the crazy gleam she had in her eyes during the whole dna test fiasco when she suspected eleni might be her daughter and now she's just letting everything go and ends up giving in to şerif's threat. Don't get me wrong, I know she has something to lose now (eleni) which is why she's being passive but I wished she'd at least done something to get back at the furtunas but no we see her getting cozy with sirin who failed to protect the young esme and oruç who's constantly looked down on her and FORGED the dna test results (again his not only offense). Mind you she's still not confronted Hicran over her whole eleni is my daughter act. In fact now that I think about the most important things and conversations are just being glossed over and it's so frustrating. I NEED to see esme plotting, manipulating and getting back at the people who ruined her life !!!
can i just say my fav part about tbd was esme when I started even tho what brought tbd to my attention were isfad edits but I wasn’t really into them when I started watching bec alll my attention was on esdil but specifically esme and her crazy, raging demeanour. she really did move like she has nothing to lose and it was so refreshing to see an older female character be that way and truly own it to the point that other characters aren’t just scared of the man but also her. it was everything to me.
and now she’s just so dull and scared all the time and I truly wish she’ll outsmart serif or at least do something to keep everyone in line again (especially oruc who has said and done so much shit to her like excuse me can you understand him after you’ve at least held him accountable and given him a piece of your mind??). there’s so much that can be done and nothing substantial is happening - even that stupid gun that they’re not trying to find.
Like the Furtunas NEVER listen and then everyone gets mad at Adil for taking matters into his own hand 😭😭
i love how adil has always been insistent on this one thing: why should women pay the price for their enmity? this is why i appreciate that the motivation for iso-fadime marriage isn’t some peace agreement or whatever but rather the only way to protect fadime (and adil in turn, bec he’d have straight up gone ahead to kill şerif).
also it’s so freaking refreshing that iso straight up went ahead and talked to fadime to figure out a solution instead of hiding, planning and beating around the bush. he chose fadime’s life over anything else and the parallel is right there to not notice.
oruc has repeatedly put his family over anything else despite the harm it might cause. he was ready to throw adil in jail for years just to get him out of the way to ‘protect’ his family while adil should just accept what his family has done. heck he literally saw adil esme grieving over an empty grave and said nothing like ??? oruc wishes he was half the man that iso is. that man has actually progressed from ep 3 to 13. while we have oruc still crying and lamenting about how he’s such a bad guy victim mentality (while being weird af and moralising towards esme and eleni both!).
also the only reason he’s been all sevcan murderer blah blah is bec she’s an easy target for him and someone he didn’t want to marry in the first place (also a prick move bec why’d you get engaged to someone if aren’t sure??). he should’ve turned all that ire and anger on his family instead of lying, cheating, and framing people to protect his own.
THE WAY HIS SMILE DISAPPEARS LMAO
Adil Koçari the man you are !!
I will never be normal about Fadima (out of sheer desperation) shielding Adil's heart because that's where their father was shot
I'm really liking bon appétit your majesty but the pacing feels off. Like we really spend a lot of time talking about plans which I know happens in a lot of historical dramas but still...I don't think we need a 15 min chat about procuring a pressure cooker. Those scenes feel like they're dragging and weighing the show down
But I love the rest of the vibes, a lot. I'm still trying to figure out which came first here, chicken or the egg or if she's actively changing history?
Seeing ppl complain that she is too goofy and not stoic StongFemaleCharacter™️ is bananas to me.
She lived her entire life guarding her identity and reputation for a person she was never allowed to be and now that she is free and living under an identity without expectations you think she should never have fun or to be open to new experiences? Imagine a kid in a candy store with unlimited money for the first time- that’s her.
I’m absolutely willing to suspend my disbelief for her character to behave this way. Much moreso than to imagine that anyone around her who had met her in her former life believed it was her brother all along.
there's this obsession ppl have with a strong character being a stoic/emotionless character especially when female and while I understand where it comes from, it is cliche and an overcorrection
Even as He Rufei, Yan had all the whimsy and goofiness--all the scenes of her at the academy are so obviously goofballs (her explanation for the mask, her getting stuck on the roof when escaping, her and Cheng Lisu comparing grades)
In fact, the only time she is stoic is when she is in war mode-- and even as He Yan the soldier and He Yan the female general she is still very stoic when in war mode
And often, she uses her sly funny brain in strategic ways-- all the times she has goaded men into acting the way she wants them to are funny! and smart!
People go on and on about complex characters, complex female characters, but when faced with one they try to box her in and find faults
The scene where she kills the man who had tried to kill her (forgot his name sorry)-- she IS stoic when she kills him and she instantly switches to funny to distract Xiao Jue.
Her being funny and stoic is not contradictory, it's a human knowing when to be what for best chances of survival
(this is such a messy rant, quite all over the place, but I hope it's coherent enough for my point to be made 😭😭🫡)
