A Letter From Akiri

well this post is gonna get me blacklisted from the fr tumblr community

first i’m gonna preface this by saying i don’t know how any of you have been affected by police brutality and anti-black racism and i’m not here to tell you how you should or should not feel about akiri’s letter. i recognize that while i may be POC, i do not experience racism in the same way black and brown people do and thus will never be able to fully understand those struggles

however, if you’re white/non-black and you’re jumping on akiri’s back for not making his own statement/making his own statement but it’s not satisfactory/not donating to the right organization/etc etc– i invite you to examine your own experience. you too believed that the police were good and protectors of the people at some point in your life. i know this is true because that is what we are taught in America. we all started from somewhere and we all learn, grow, and change for the better. you didn’t wake up randomly one day and be like ‘yes. i instantly understand what insitutional racism is and all the systems that uphold it.’ it is a complicated idea to learn, goes against everything we are taught, and takes time to grasp

do i think akiri’s response is perfect? no. do i wish he had realized and changed earlier? of course. but do i think denouncing him for ever after helps anybody? no. you think white supremacists don’t know what you do? they tell their followers ‘just try to go out there, they all hate you and will never accept you’ and then you all play right into their hands, reject people when they try to change, so they go back with their convictions cemented even more. i won’t give nazis/bootlickers/’blue/all lives matter’/etc ppl who have no intention of changing the time of day, but if somebody is open to learning and changing you take that opportunity to educate them and hopefully nudge them to your side. that’s how you make people change

there are cops that are resigning days ago and we are applauding them. there are protestors out there right now trying to get cops to stand in solidarity. but i guess since it’s tumblr actions are never excused and people can never change huh. believe it or not there is a middle ground between ‘excuse everybodys past actions’ and ‘cancel ppl immediately’

i do hope that akiri truly is changing for the better and open to learning more. i hope the fr community’s response hasn’t dissuaded him from doing so

also can people stop sharing blatant misinformation? campaign zero is literally a police reform group created by BLM activists in direct response to Ferguson and the demand for the BLM movement to have specific policy proposals. it’s not a ‘cop charity’ like i see so many people claiming. whether or not you think police reform or police abolition is the way to go, this took me like two minutes of googling. personally i’m for police abolition but i understand why akiri chose this org and at the very least i can understand that police reform (which, yknow, includes reducing budgets, force sizes, and getting rid of police union contracts, all things we’re fighting for now) can reduce the immediate police brutality since abolition is a long and hard road

Blue’s Feathers and Wings Compendium: Standard Wing Shapes

I have expanded the traditional 4 types; Highspeed, Elliptical, Low Aspect and High Aspect ratio, because they were very narrow and vague categories for the most part, adding High Energy, Thermal Soaring, Night Glider, and Passerine wings. I feel that these extra types make it easier to understand and visualize the differences and similarities between wing shapes.

I’ve renamed Low Aspect to Powered Soaring, and High Aspect to Dynamic Soaring for the purposes of the fact that names made it hard to understand purpose and were easily confusable. 

A lot of these wing types are also affected by tailfeather shape and size, and that will change their agility and energy expenditure as the tail also generates lift.
