Not wanting to be with someone because their views are incompatible with your own is *literally* the opposite of shallow but okay

Not wanting to be with someone because they don’t share your views is not shallow.

Having someone judge you by your values and the content of your character is not offensive.

Having someone say that the fastest way for someone to stop having a crush on you is to learn what your views are because your sex automatically means your social views will not be acceptable is shallow, gross, and sexist af.

Funny thing, the OP is saying the last one. The OP is automatically judging men’s values and the content of their character by their sex. The OP is literally saying that if you ask a man his views on social issues, you will not like him anymore.

So maybe stop laughing at the person who dared call the OP out for being shallow and gross and recognize that the OP is sexist and toxic.

Dangers of a Generous Spirit

Many, many things have been said about the virtues of having a generous, giving spirit, and no wonder! There are so many good things to say about it! But beware - it can be dangerous as well!

How?

Impulse gifting is bad for your bank account.

For example, say you have a Generous, Giving Spirit.

Say you’ve read this article.

Say you’re walking through Target and pass by a copy of “Jaws: The Board Game.”

It is a sad fact that you may have to avert your eyes and hurry past before you grab you wallet, the board game, and head for the registers, intent on sending it to England just in case he doesn’t already have a copy....or ten.

Revamped Coffin Bean set. I sprayed the frame a matte black, for that nice cast iron look. The backdrop was painted with chalk board finish spray paint....which doesn’t actually work right on cardboard, so I covered the top portion with black, fine grit wet-dry sandpaper. The counter was done in two pieces with marble wallpaper from Spoonflower. This was the smooth (aka ‘wet stick’) paper. If I did this again, I’d use the woven peel-n-stick. As it is, I wound up tacking this down with spray glue, which was not ideal.

Now I just need to get some chalk and put up a menu!

Before an after - Jinafire’s keyboard from the Fierce Rocker set.  The black keys on the repaint aren’t as nice as the original (almost as if they were painted by unsteady hands rather than a machine!) and the white keys need some retouching due to a sealant accident, but overall I’m pleased! Now all I need is to make a new strap for it.

Body done with Rust-o-leum spray paint in satin claret, antiquing and keys done with Duncan acrylic paints. Sealed with Rust-o-leum satin sealant.

Makings of a DapperPuff pt 1

Phoenix Feathers, first try

There is a day coming at my work when I’m going to get to dress up to the black-and-yellow nines. Needless to say, I’m super excited and using this as an excuse to add a few details to my kit.

Today I got the idea of adding ‘phoenix feathers’ to my hat band. The main problem with this is finding ‘phoenix feathers’ that I like. Most dyed feathers out there very much look like they were just tossed in a pot of dye - possibly after being bleached. I wanted something with a bit more interest.

Good news! After Googling ‘how to dye feathers’ and peering at a couple of tutorials, it really is as easy as it sounds. (Yes, I know, if you’re a fly fisher you’re wanting to pat me on the head like a five year old because you do this all the time. I admit, I’m being super noobish here.)

Here are the results.

I had these two feather picks kicking around as hat decorations anyway. Decided to start with the scragglier one in case I ruined it.

Grabbed two bottles of RIT DyeMore in appropriate colours. Since you can dye feathers (apparently) with Kool-Aid, the DyeMore is probably overkill, but it’s what was handy.

Set some of the yellow boiling in a little pot that I originally got for boiling down bones. NEVER USE A POT THAT YOU PLAN ON COOKING IN IF YOU’RE GOING TO USE SYNTHETIC DYE!

I used the little plastic loop holding the pick together to hold it. I also used pliers so my hand was well away from the steam. I started by dying the whole thing yellow, then added some of the orange dye and dyed just the tips of the long feathers.

...wet feathers are terribly pathetic looking, even if they aren’t laying on a tea stained sink.

Once they dry, though, they’re about perfect! I decided not to use the nice pick after all, since fluffing up TINY feathers that are already bound together is a pain, but this one should do anyway. The colour from the tape at the end bled onto my fingers a bit as I was handling it, so be aware that tends not to be colour fast.

BUT! It’s progress and that feels good! Next I’m going to try bleaching some feathers and then dying them, because I want a particular shape.

I love that this shows both sides, how society is ingrained to see women as baby-makers and men as walking wallets who’s only worth is if they make good cash. Both are equally demeaning and limiting in different ways.

As a member of two minority groups and two majority groups, I can not stress how important this concept is. Every group out there has to deal with stereotypes and all of those stereotypes suck. Being judged based on your ‘status’ sucks.

If we want equality, we need to stop talking about majority rights and minority rights and start talking about human rights....and then we need to work at building everyone up until the playing ground is level.
