Where I Get The Pictures From:
Uh, google, tbh. Well, it’s a good jumping off point. I also use Comic Vine, the Marvel Wikia and I also sometimes take caps from comics on my Marvel Unlimited Account. I often use the character’s tumblr tag for new panels/runs, but I will never knowingly use someone else’s edits.
Well, nothing in the grand scheme of things, but I was musing over how many different styles of art one character can be drawn through, and how most edits/photosets tend to focus on one or two specific artists/runs, rather than the variety that are out there. I chose thirty faces because that’s about as many as you can use to make a graphic that isn’t so big the details are lost, though for most of the characters I’ve done, thirty was far too few and I could easily do ninety or so! And I picked women, because female superheroes/characters in the comics world always need more love and attention!
Why haven’t you done my favourite character yet?
I’m trying to cover a range of characters, series and timelines when I do this, so I’m taking kind of a random approach to picking characters. I didn’t just want to do all my favourites and then lose interest. Equally, I didn’t want to do, say, all the X-Men women and then move onto another series after that. So I’ll get to your character sooner or later, I hope! I haven’t done most of my favourites yet either, tbh.
I haven’t seen [character] like that before, where’s that from?
As well as trying to include a range of artists and runs for each character (where possible), and where relevant a range of eras from whenever she first appeared to the most recent images I can find, I’ve also been looking at alternate universe appearances (ie anything not Marvel 616), computer game appearances, cartoon appearances, animated or live action movies or TV shows. I’m mostly trying to use “official” Marvel art, whether that’s from an alternate cover or promotional drawing, rather than fanart, though I’m human and might also include some images from my favourite Marvel-employed artists that aren’t technically official (like Kevin Wada, Kris Anka, Phil Noto, Jamie McKelvie etc).
