the thought of you had spent the night with jay once again. he stared at the cracked ceiling of his dimly lit apartment, the afternoon light filtering through the dusty blinds like the scattered reminders of a life he once knew. the silence was oppressive, heavy with memories of laughter and warmth that felt so distant now. there was a hole in his chest he had felt never before, and ever since. just a week ago, he had been wrapped in your arms, their future painted in vibrant colors, but now those colors had bled into a dull gray.
his phone buzzed beside him, breaking the complete silence. It was a message from you, the group chat buzzing with updates about mutual friends. he hesitated before opening it, a knot tightening in his stomach. as he read their plans for the weekend, he felt the familiar sting of exclusion. time went on for everybody else, he wont know it.
each day, jay found himself lost in a ritual of revisiting their shared moments. he would sift through old photos, each one a bittersweet reminder of laughter, dreams, and the way you would twirl your hair when she was deep in thought. he replayed their favorite songs, letting the melodies wash over him like a comforting balm, even as they cut deeper with every note.
one evening, he came across a video of you two dancing in the living room, your laugh echoing through the screen. a wave of longing crashed over him, and he couldn’t help but smile at the memory. yet, as the video ended, the stark reality of your absence seeped in, and he was left grappling with the haunting question: was it better to remember the good times or to face the painful truth of your ending?
as the days turned into weeks, jay found solace in the routine of his grief. He walked the same paths they had strolled, often feeling your presence beside him, as if you were just out of sight. but the comfort of those memories began to morph into a chain that bound him tighter with each passing day.
he met up with a close friend, jake, at their favorite café. over steaming mugs of coffee, he watched him with concern. “jay, you need to talk about this,” he urged gently. “You’re not going to find closure by just replaying the past.”
his words struck a chord within him, igniting a flicker of realization. what was he really waiting for? closure, or a chance to go back to a time when everything felt perfect? He felt the weight of jake's gaze, and for the first time, he voiced his fears. “what if I let her go and it hurts too much? what if I’m meant to fight for us?”
jake sighed, his expression softening. “but what if holding on is what’s hurting you most? sometimes... you just have to choose yourself first.”
but how could he choose himself when all he needed to be fine was to have you back? there seemed to be no answer to his despair. no matter from what sight he saw himself, whether it was from his own eyes or his friends perspectives of him, there was nothing that could fix the hole he felt. he might as well just stay down bad.

“Do you think they'll suspect anything?” You asks, glancing at heeseung “Who? The other members?” Heeseung respond, pretending to think hard. “Maybe. But they don’t know, do they?” you say. He smirks, leaning closer. “But if they did?”
You can’t help but laugh, leaning into him. “Then we’d have to act like we’re just friends.”
Heeseung raises an eyebrow, an amused smile playing on his lips. “Well, do you think friends do this?” he whispers, putting a stray strand to your ear.
"Do what exactly?"
"This?" before you could ask him again he leaned in and kissed you softly.

"You're making it too obvious Jay" you whispered. "The what?" he respond making you scoff “Tell me" "People wouldn't believe that friends usually cling to each other like this?” you seriously ask, raising an eyebrow.
“Definitely something more?" he says pretending to be oblivious.
"friends don’t sneak kisses when no one’s watching, right?” he added, You feel your cheeks flush. His expression softens, and before you know it, he cups your cheeks and leans in, giving you a quick, soft kiss. Pulling back, he raises an eyebrow, a smirk tugging at his lips. ““See? Friends wouldn’t do that.”

“Don’t you think the others would catch on if they saw us holding hands?” you ask, glancing up at him with a playful smile. He chuckles “Maybe they’ll just think we’re friends who really enjoy each other’s company.”
“It’s already obvious there’s more to it.” you rolled your eyes. He then stops walking, turning to face you with a teasing grin. “Honestly, I don’t think it’s a secret. They’ve probably known from the start.” he replied
"Shouldn’t we just not hide it anymore?” you asked. “Why not?” he replies He did not hesitate to lean in, kissing you. You widened your eyes because you've never done anything like this in public. Once he pulls back, a smirk laid on his face “See? That wasn’t so hard, was it baby?”

"Do you think anyone suspects we’re together?” you ask, playfully. He tilts his head, eyes sparkling with mischief. “Honestly? Maybe. But isn’t that what makes it fun?”
You laugh, nudging him lightly with your shoulder. “So you’re saying we should keep them guessing?” you asked him. "We don’t need to make it obvious" he respond
You raise an eyebrow, biting your lip as you look up at him. “Are we really just friends if we’re acting like this?”
He takes a half step forward, closing the distance, and smirks. “Depends on how you define friends.” He leans it to give you a playful kiss and pulls back slightly, a teasing glint in his eyes. “I guess we’re something more then, eh?” you teasingly respond, trying to hide how warm your cheeks are.
if you look closely (lol), i didn’t actually intend for each scenario to match exactly with what it’s supposed to. like, jake’s and sunghoon’s scenarios aren’t the same as jay’s or heeseung’s.

"This way!" Young Jungwon was always adventurous, oftentimes, leaving his friends to chase after him, leading them to danger in the sense of fun, even if it meant trespassing on a creepy 'cursed' property.
"I don't know Jungwon... This place looks sketchy" 14-year-old Name, a year younger than Jungwon and the same age as Riki, was much less brave than the two boys. Of course, she always followed along but that doesn't mean she wasn't scared.
"Here, hold my hand" Jungwon reached for her hand, rubbing his thumbs over her knuckles to comfort her; Riki retracted his hand aiming for hers, beaten by Jungwon's yet again.
Riki knew Jungwon liked her, and he was fine with it as long as she liked him back and it didn't ruin the friendship between you three. He just wished Jungwon would stop stealing her away. She was still his friend, and he still had the right to be possessive... That doesn't mean he was into her.
"I think it's up here..." Jungwon pulled Name up the creaking stairs onto the 'haunted' level of the building (According to the kids at the school anyway)
Riki followed quickly behind
As they approached the slightly open, raggedy brown door, everyone's steps started getting slower and even lighter, as if stepping too hard would alert some evil spirit in the house.
"Uh, Riki, why don't you go first?" Jungwon turned around and tried to convince the younger to open the door first, but his brave, "I'll protect you" persona quickly dissipated.
"No, it was your idea in the first place!"
Jungwon sighs, "Pleaseeee?" Jungwon begged, but Riki wasn't in the mood for getting cursed so he denied it again
"I'll go" Name was scared but even more annoyed by the constant bickering. "No, what if you get hurt?" Riki stated
"Oh come on, you don't actually think it's haunted do you?..." The boys looked at each other, waiting for each other to reply.
"Oh my god" Name walked towards the door and pushed it open, peering inside slowly.
"There's nothing in here," Name looked back, seeing the boys practically holding each other in fear, "You guys are so dramatic..."
Name walks in, checking the room every time she takes a step; The boys follow right behind her
The room was dark, it was dark and eerie.
Walking towards the supposedly 'haunted closet' they had heard about around town, Name trips over a black box that blends in with the darkness. As she stumbles to the ground, the box releases a pungent odor. It smelt like sulfur, and it smelt like what they imagined death would smell like.
Jungwon quickly grabbed the box and shut it, putting it on a nearby shelf, holding his nose in the process "Eugh what the hell was that?" He questioned in disgust
"I don't know but whatever it was burnt my nose hairs off.. euh" Riki followed up, quite dramatically. Name gets back up and starts walking towards the closet once again, "It was probably old food the owner left"
"You really think it would smell like death, though?" Name turns and looks at Jungwon as if he were stupid. "How would you know what death smells like, Jungwon?" He simply shrugs his shoulders
Name rolled her eyes and turned to the closet, her hands reaching for the handle, she slowly started to open the closet when randomly the same box fell off the shelf, followed by a high-pitched woman's screech.
Riki grabbed Name's hand and started running as Jungwon followed behind
The three got outside, falling onto the grass as they were exhausted and tired, slowly catching their breaths "What the hell was that?!" Name questioned
All looking at each other-- the boys shrugged, laying back down on the grass to ponder as their hearts slowed.
Later that night, when the kids were lying in their beds, warm and still slightly shaken up from the previous situation, they couldn't help but feel a sense of dread.
Riki thought it was because he was tired and worn out, and Name didn't think much of it all, but Jungwon, Jungwon couldn't shake the idea that maybe it was the box.
"Was it the box that Name tripped over?" He thought to himself
"I mean, why else would it smell like that if it wasn't full of some kinda curse?"
"Or maybe I'm just overthinking it... I mean, it's probably nothing... right?"

summary: when desperately left in need for one more player to start their in-game guild, riki miraculously finds you. initially unwilling to join a group with a handful of random college guys, a certain boy by the name of lee heeseung manages to win over your heart despite a terrible first impression (and complete lack of skill to play the game).
before you read: you do not need to know anything about the game they are playing to read meet me in elwynn. if heeseung has no idea how to play, then its okay if you don't either! here is a little encyclopedia of the terms and places referenced in the game! this was originally a one-shot but i extended it into a mini fic
