Fresh Meat Fridays: Week One
The first band to be featured this week is self described indie folk rock band Aster and Ivy. Consisting of four members and originating in Jacksonville, Florida, the band currently has one single released. The catchy, upbeat track entitled “Silhouettes” is an earworm in the best possible way. After one listen, the hypnotizing guitar melodies (by Mitch Fountain and Irno Kola) and smooth, enchanting vocals (by Irno Kola) will have you hooked. Other members include Quinn Alexander (drums), and Ryan Cox (bass guitar). The band recently announced the upcoming release of their debut EP Tell Me Pretty Things, and have a variety of merch available to purchase. Find them on twitter and instagram @AsterAndIvy, and on spotify here.
Peach Pit is yet another indie band, although this time of the pop variety. They released their debut LP Being so Normal in 2017, which is the perfect album to dance or chill to. The mellowed out and endearing vocals performed by Neil Smith are perfectly complemented by the seemingly effortless and indescribably groovy instrumentation in the background. Besides Neil, who also plays rhythm guitar, the other members of this Vancouver four piece delight are Peter Wilton (bass guitar), Christopher Vanderkooy (lead guitar), and Mikey Pascuzzi (drums). To me, this album is a perfect mixture of teen experiences and angst, along with an overall sound that is honestly timeless and as smooth as butter. They can be found on Twitter @peachpitmusic, on instagram @peachpit17, and on Spotify here.
Finally, we have California-based alternative-indie- oh my god this is so many genres- rock band Wee Beasties. Most recently, they have released a single entitled “Valentine”, which I am absolutely enthralled with. The almost theatrical vocals and catchy guitar riffs feel like home to my pop-punk grown self. They also have two EPs, both released on iTunes last year. The first is simply named after the band itself, holding the title Wee Beasties. The second is titled Tame the Wave. While their self titled EP is my personal favorite, both are terrific and unique to an extent in which I can barely describe them. Band members include Codie Collins (vocals), Nic Tesi and Gio Najeh (guitar), Nick Merrick (bass guitar), and Max Martinez (drums). You can listen to them on spotify here, and find them on Twitter and Instagram @weebeastiesband.
