[ ♟ ] - Luke only nodded at her words. It was almost as if the girl was rambling, but he knew it was out of concern. Besides, she must know something about health care if she warned him against blistering. Maybe that was her major?
As she hesitantly sat down and began to quickly unpack her things, he couldn’t help but watch her out of the corner of his eyes. He had seen the green-eyed girl before, after all they did have class together, but had given her no second thought. Luke had written her off as shy and anxiety prone and truthfully, had no interest in starting a conversation. But then again, she could just prefer to stay in the shadows instead of the spot light. That was probably why she seemed to buckle under the eyes of their peers only seconds ago and seemed to prefer to keep her head down instead of held high.
Luke nodded and caught one of her eyes. The other was blocked by her light blonde hair that fell from her bangs. At least he piqued her attention. “I didn’t do the homework.” He hesitantly said, internally smothering the feeling of being a cheat. He just hoped she would pick up what he was saying. “Could you tell me the jist of the article? I can complete the assignment by myself from there.”
{❧} - Mithien blinked, her hand lifting to tuck back the wandering lock of hair absently. For a moment, she simply looked at the boy, a slight furrow notching her brow. At his first statement, the concern that he was about to ask her to help him cheat stole over her. The rest of his words eased the feeling. Somewhat.
“Uhm, I can try but....” she glanced at the clock hanging over the chalkboard. Their professor would be there any moment. How would her peer ever have time to get himself properly prepared for the discussion they were supposed to have based on the assignment’s questions?
Rifling quickly through her notebook, she slipped out a piece of paper, sliding it towards him. A series of questions were printed on the page. As she moved her hand away, her eyes met his sheepishly. “You’ll have to be able to answer all of these...The article described a couple of different literary theories that we have to compare. It’s a little complicated.” Her own answers took up a couple pages in her notebook. She knew she owed him help for her slip up, but she wasn’t sure how she was supposed to make up for it when their time was so constricted.

[ ♟ ] - Luke’s eyes moved yet once again towards the girl with the long braid. He could have cared less about the commotion the two stirred up in the classroom. However, the girl seemed as if she wanted to melt into the floor. Her ears turning slightly pink and a blush across her cheeks. If no one had noticed them before, judging by all the snickers and not-so-quiet side comments, it was safe to say that was over.
“Wait, so it’s not going to stain? Good.” Although her gaze was elsewhere and her head was down he still felt a small wave of gratitude towards the shy girl. Out of all things she could have dumped onto him, at least it was tea. This whole situation was in poor taste to begin with but at least he wouldn’t have to toss a shirt by the end of the day.
“No it doesn’t hurt anymore and I don’t need to be walked to the clinic.” He refused her offer, his annoyance slowly fading. Luke was just grateful this young woman was kind enough to care. “It was hot but it’s fine now. Besides, class is about to start.” Luke sat down once more and reached down, grabbing the fallen and now empty tea cup and placed it on the empty desk next to him. It was his own way of accepting her apology and saying he was alright if she sat next to him. “Now that you subjected me to an unwilling and unpleasant tea bath, do you think you can do me a favor?”
{❧} - Well....at least she hoped it wasn’t going to stain. Tea was pale, at least. Mithien’s lips dragged back into a sheepish line as she continued to weather his words. At least he didn’t seem to be in any pain. Anymore. So she hadn’t made a complete and total mess of the morning.
“A-alright...but you should keep an eye on it. Uhm, sometimes burns blister.” She winced at her own words. Was she trying to get herself into deeper trouble with him?
Her hands slowly dropped away from wringing her braid as the boy reached for the fallen cup and slapped it down on the desk space beside him. Any empty spot...was he saying she could take it?
Gripped by hesitance, Mithien shifted her bag on her shoulder and then stepped forward, moving past him to seat herself in the chair next to his. Keeping her head lowered, she hurriedly began to remove her books and pencils from the bag, preparing her desk for class.
The sound of the boy’s voice tweaked at her attention. Green eyes peered over at him, one eye partially shielded by a thin lock of platinum blond that had slipped away from her bangs. A favour? “I suppose it’s the least I can do,” she hedged, feeling wariness seep into her chest.

[ ♟ ] - Luke shot out of his chair and grey eyes glared at the small girl. The pain was beginning to fade yet his annoyance wasn’t. The girl looked like a doe caught in headlights! She had just spilt all but boiling water on him and all she could say was sorry?
“I’ll live.” He grumbled without bothering to look at her. What a clutz. “But sorry won’t get this stain out of my shirt.” Truthfully, he wasn’t sure if the unknown liquid would stain or not since up until moving out of his fathers, the maids had always done his laundry. He would never admit it but he had no idea how to wash clothes.
Huffing under his breath he reached towards his back. Great. He could feel the now uncomfortable cooling liquid patch that reached from his right shoulder to mid back.
“You’re lucky that didn’t go into someones eye.” Luke scolded the girl with green eyes while, frowning. “You should really be more careful.”
{❧} - The tall male now drenched in Mithien’s tea shot to his feet, glaring down at her with stormy eyes. His stare flicked away from her, his annoyance evident in every plane of his face. She stayed silent under his admonishments, her shoulders rising towards her ears.
Everyone was staring at them, and all Mithien could do was stand there and hope she would disappear, her ears turning hot under everyone’s gazes, snickers floating up around the room.
“It shouldn’t stain.” The words hopped out of her mouth without her really thinking about it. Blush burned her cheeks. “I-It’s just tea. Uhm, I’m really sorry. I should have been more careful.” She lowered her head, her now cup-free hand lifting to clutch at the long braid hanging over her shoulder. “Does it hurt? Do you...should I go with you to the university clinic?”

All was well during the second week at the prestigious Cornell University. For Luke Grun, classes were going smoothly, family friends made seldom appearances, and he had just enough involvement in campus life to remain content. If the rest of the semester remained like it was, he could coast.
As the rest of the class leaked in from outside, Luke took a seat for his second class of the day, Composition I. Only once he began taking out his notebook he realized that not even a full week into class and he had already forgotten to do homework; the simple task of annotating an article.
Quickly he began scrambling to finish his assignment when a burning liquid splashed and trickled down his back. It was hot, piping hot, the initial pain and shock alone made him want to tear his shirt off. “Agh!” A few students turned their heads. “What the hell!?”
{❧} - Everything still felt grey and hazy during the second week of classes at Cornell University. While Mithien Penhale’s physical symptoms had completely vanished, the ache was still deep in her chest. Guilt gnawed at her constantly, and focusing hard on school work was the only thing that kept the thoughts from becoming overwhelming. She kept herself closed off, speaking to no one, despite the multiple calls and texts from her family and her friends from high school (who she realized were giving up on her - and she let them). Her main goal was to keep her head down and get good grades, and that was it. She didn’t know how to deal with the loss and the guilt, and maybe she didn’t deserve to figure out how to overcome them.
She moved into the classroom with her head down, following the final stream of students as they trickled inside. Most people had taken their seats by now, and Mithien walked quickly to avoid being noticed, a cup of freshly ordered, steaming hot tea gripped in one hand, faintly burning her fingertips through the paper.
Shifting her messenger bag with her free hand, Mithien spotted an empty seat and swerved towards it. She moved forward, oblivious to the bag laying next to another student’s chair, sticking out into the aisle. Her sandal caught on the edge, and she tipped forward, the tea cup tumbling from her hands and landing right on another student, spilling steaming liquid onto his back.
Mithien scrambled to right herself, eyes widening as she realized what she had done. “Sorry!” she blurted, clutching her hands anxiously together. “Are you alright?”

Edgar Allan Poe.
- panic prone
The raven held tightly on to his reins. His horses hooves pounded into the soft Earth as he heard those deadly footfalls. His skin seemed ti get paler as he thought of those beast. Too many of his men and women died by them. Grey hues noticed one to his right. Although it seemed as though they were doing just fine themselves.
He looked forward once more. He rode on without any problem, but he thought too soon. He heard a cry out for him. He looked back at the small group. A female rode on, she seemed to be stuck in her mind. Brows narrowed in slight frustration. He kicked his black mares sides as he made his way towards the titan that slowly lumbered towards the girl. He wasn’t going to have anyone die, not here, and not now.
Soon he had reached a good enough distance. He shot his iron wires. They latched on to the titan. His body swung low, going through its legs. He came up it’s back, easily slicing it’s nap just as it reached for the girls body. The body fell with a loud thud. Levi landed in front of the female.
A brow arched as he looked at her. A hand on his hip, his other hand held a blade tightly. “What the hell was that? Be careful next time, okay? You’re going to get yourself killed.” he snorted. He dind’t mean to be harsh, but it came out like that.
{❧} - Mithien was completely frozen, her heart hammering so hard she could feel it in her mouth. She clenched her jaw, pressing her trembling lips firmly together, as if afraid the organ would escape. The white flashed brightly across her vision as panic's claws dug deep grooves in her chest. The titan disappeared from her sight as that same panic blinded her. She waited for the end.
The sound of a loud thump and a wall of steam wafting hotly towards her cleared the panic from her vision. The girl let out a squished breath. Lungs pinched tight, she blinked and saw the body dissolving near her. Mithien stared in blank shock. How....?
The sound of a voice drew her gaze. Mithien turned her head to stare at the dark-haired male, her jaw lowered. She blinked quickly and swallowed. "I-I'm...I'm sorry, sir. It...it won't happen again," she stumbled out, her fingers tightening around the reigns.
She couldn't die, not yet. Not when she hadn't atoned yet. Not when she was still so damn useless. And she certainly could not cause anyone else to die. Not again.
- across the plains
The girl slid off her animal, and after a moment, she stepped around it and into the immortal’s view. He felt her stare and allowed his lips to twitch up faintly in response.
“Oh, no,” the stranger denied blithely. “I am the one who should be saying my apologies.” A breath. “I don’t mean to pry but…this is quite far from any towns. Are you…lost?” Petal pink dusted the girl’s cheeks, and Abel’s lips finally curled up in another small smile.
“Pas particulièrement…not particularly, though I thank you for your concern,” the man returned courteously, offering the other a shallow dip of his head. For him to be lost…he would first need a destination, after all. “Not all those who wander are lost, mademoiselle…though I must seem quite a sight out here, do I not? I did not expect to meet any others…If I surprised you, I do apologize once again.”
{❧} - Chartreuse eyes blinked. The woman's head tilted slightly to the side as she considered the man before her. "Well...yes. I am sorry. I did not mean to..." Her words drifted into silence as a wave of embarrassment swept over her.
"Uhm...If you need some place to stay, there is a town three miles to the West," the blonde offered. Even someone who was only wandering needed a place to say, she figured.

{❧} - Pale trembling fingers, squeezing the reigns, flattening them against sweating palms. She was not ready for this. Not again. Not ever. But this was what she had chosen. To fight, to try to give their sacrifice meaning. He didn't die so you could freeze up like this. Not again. The thought choked her, as did the fear curling up her throat like a breath of rope. At this rate, you are going to die, useless.
Cold sweat crept down her spine, bathing the back of her neck. Chills clawed at her flesh as her pulse hammered in her ears. There they were. Her nightmares had kept the terror of their faces fresh in his mind. Those faces that had not stopped haunting her since Trost.
And now they were only a few feet away. The world was open and dangerous, bristling with sharp edges as a white mist began to creep across her vision. It seemed resistant to being diverted from the main group and orders were shot towards her. They were supposed to take it down?
She couldn't move. She was shaking too hard. The panic stuffing her chest with pain, with coils of smothering breath. She watched as the rest of her squad charged towards it, even as it continued to rush right towards her.
