was pulling me to it, partly because it looks like poetry. After a little squinting and research, turns out it’s from an American abolitionist, women’s rights activist, and literal pastor who raised money to send guns to abolitionist fighters and to “buy” slaves so they could be free, Henry Ward Beecher, who I learned about for the last night.  (Apparently when people got the rifles they would call them “Beecher’s Bibles”, which is frankly the best thing ever.)   The quote chosen is as follows: “It is one of the severest tests of friendship to tell your friend his faults. If you are angry with a man, or hate him, it is not hard to go to him and stab him with words; but to so love a man that you cannot bear to see a stain upon him, and to speak painful truth through loving words–that is friendship.
