Summer in Europe!
Hey everyone! I (Alyssa) have been interning at a museum in Madrid for the summer, and had the chance to travel around to Berlin and Portugal during a couple of my free weekends. I had some amazing experiences, and found a lot of quirky things along the way!
For one, check out this bathroom in Lisbon, Portugal that offered you a selection of colored toilet paper to use! If only I could find a few of these on Mixed Co tours....the group is always complaining how much I have to stop to go to the bathroom, so this would at least provide some entertainment!
I also took a surfing lesson, and repped some Mixed Co yellow and black as I tackled some HUGE waves (do you see that thing?! Isn't it a monster?! Gosh I'm such a pro!!!)
After gallivanting around the Western coast of Europe for a bit, I eventually made my way up north to Berlin! The weather was actually much colder than I anticipated, so I ended up buying a jacket and a pair of pants and wearing the same dang thing for four days in a row. Kind of like Mixed Co retreats....?
Found this place called Museum Island that is literally an island that is full of art museums! The history nerd inside me was doing somersaults, and I couldn't resist a selfie.
And to get between museums, you could walk through these stone arches that had ceilings painted with beautiful musical scenes! I bet the acoustics in those tunnels are great.
My last weekend in Spain, I went to Segovia, a medieval town about an hour outside of Madrid. It is famous for its old architecture (legit Gothic whaddup!) and its castle that apparently inspired the Disney castle in about every classic animated movie I watched as a kid. I totally see the resemblance!
I also got to go visit a vineyard and see how they make wines from the delicious grapes that grow in that area. I wonder how many barrels Mixed Co could polish off....
(For ridiculous Mixed Co adventures involving extremely large vessels of wine, talk to Jenny...)
I also came across an adorable bulldog! His name might not be Dan, but he sure is Handsome....
And last but not least, a tribute to my New Haven hero, Dunkin' Donuts. BUT-- in Madrid it's not called Dunkin' Donuts!! My host mom explained to me that most madrileños don't like donuts very much, so they just casually changed to name to make more sense for them....works for me! (Don't worry, they still sell donuts there).
Now I'm back home in Denver, Colorado, and getting very, very excited to be back with the group in just a couple weeks!!!
