kevin’s parents definitely raised him to believe the world wouldn’t stop for him. and when you’re a kid, your parents are your world

so this meant if he got upset at the store he got put in the shopping cart and they continued on with their shopping and he eventually tired himself out from crying. when he was sick, schoolwork still had to be caught up on, and it was better to keep up with it than to have a mountain to deal with when he got better. if he was being difficult or slow getting ready he’d get left behind and miss a day of school, and then yelled at for being behind on classwork

this results in a kevin who has learned very well how to push down his feelings and march forward, or to feel them briefly before standing up and getting back to work because if he stops he will be left behind. to kevin it isn’t even tough love, it’s the truth of how the world works, and he needs to keep up to survive. he will break down before immediately getting back to work and somehow being more productive than he was before.

this habit terrifies the other boys. kevin would never push this mindset on them, or think they were weak for shutting down, but he has an unsustainable double standard in his head that he has to be better.
