Sam <3
So i’ve sold this guy. I am very happy eith the choice of new owners, and even tho it felt horrible to send him away, i am sure in my decision and it is for the best :)
I keep getting new updates from his owners, and they are so good with him :)
It is irresponsible to ride a mare who has recently had a foal.
Sorry if you disagree but it is.
Your mare is trying to raise and nourish a baby. A baby that you asked her to have and raise. Riding her means that baby can’t nurse when it needs to, means that you’re pushing your mare to expend energy on things other than raising a baby and means that you don’t give a shit about either one of them.
How long anfter foaling? And what type of riding? Just curious aboud how recent recently is🤔
(Btw, i do not have a mare who just had a foal, just curious about the specifics)
This person is riding less than a month after foaling.
Imo you shouldn’t be riding until the foal is weaned.
Other risks include: baby running in front of you/getting run into because it’s not getting normal body language signals from mom as well as you generally looking like a moron.
I agree to some extent, but it all really is about how you ride and such. If it is a very (like 15 min) short ride in an area both mare and foal is familiar, and its just a walk i dont see anything wrong with it. But this of course means the rider needs to be able to read the body language of both of them and not put them in stressfull situations..
As the foal matures i dont think its a bad idea to work gradually up to being able to take the mare out to work without the foal. Bu this i mean after like 6 months.. In Norway we keep the foal with the mare usually up to a year.
But this is all induvidual to the horse and foal and situations of ofcourse...
