FAQ

What is a Reverse Big Bang?

A reverse bang is when the Artist makes the fanart first and then the writer writes a story around the artwork.

How does this fit with the Big Bang?

Writers will still get to apply for the Big Bang and write a fic as usual. Both events will run simultaneously.

What do I need to sign up?

Mister Bug x Lady Noire

Summary:

Sleeping with her partner is taboo.

A teenage fantasy long gone, so dead it has been doused in lighter fluid, lit, incinerated to ash, never to rise from its cremated grave.

So, in Lady Noire’s defense, it catches her completely by surprise when Mister Bug and her start hooking up …after she asks him to.

Well, she for one is at a loss. It’s an accident; she’s innocent, she swears!Now the cat’s out of the bag and the bug is in her bed, and she hasn’t the faintest idea where she is going from here.

Or, AU where our totally-not-in-denial Mister Bug and Lady Noire get down and dirty with each other… and for some added flavoring, minor plot

The click of the door sounded behind him, his jacket slung over his shoulder. Removing his shoes, Adrien padded along the foyer in his socked feet with a goofy smile. A true walk of shame, yet he couldn’t find himself feeling anything but. 

He almost whistled as he hung his keys on the wall next to his father’s and mother’s. 

Lemon and sage filled the air as he crept up the stairs toward his loft bedroom. Upon his third step, the staircase betrayed him, letting out a creaky groan that could alert the entire complex to his late arrival. 

“It’s a bit early to be sneaking up to your bedroom, isn’t it?” 

Busted. Dragging a hand through his hair, he let out a breathy, “Hey, mom,” and made his way back down all of three steps. 

His mother was sitting in her favored side of the plush living room couch. He bent over, and brushed his mother’s cheek with a kiss, the scent of her rose perfume instantly brought his head back down from the clouds as he squatted to her level. 

“Of course not,” he said, his elbow finding the armrest as his chin rested in his palm. “I was only going to freshen up before I did.” 

His mother hummed, a smirk hidden behind her porcelain cup. The one with pink blossoms that she saved for better days when her strength came back. She blew the steam before taking a sip of her breakfast-blend tea. Two lumps of sugar with a smidge of cream. 

She must’ve been feeling braver today, too.

I was thinking about signing up as a writer but I have a question

If i have a long fic I want to split into 2-3 separate books, would that be all right?

The first book is almost finished (not published yet) and unrelated to anything I have on my ao3 account tho I do have a couple posts about it on my tumblr (it's also over 80k so it more than qualifies word count wise). I would sign up with this one and what I'm hoping is the big bang would help me finish the second book as well and also I've been dying to share this work because I've been working on it for years and I only talk about it sporadically with one other person.

Hello, thank you for the question. Yes, that would be absolutely fine. The rules prohibit sequels, but that doesn't apply here. The concern normally is that we want people to read a work and not need any outside knowledge beyond standard fandom knowledge.

Plus a bigger factor is the pairing is meant to be anonymous and if you are proposing a sequel then artists could figure out who you are during the pairing process, and an important feature of the Big Bang is that the pairings are not based on existing friendships or people really wanting to draw for a specific writer.

But here we don't run into any of those issues. The first part in a series doesn't require any external knowledge, and it would not give away your identity because no other part of the series has been published yet.

Thank you for organizing this! Could you explain how the ranking system is going to work? I don't really understand why it exists if the matchups are going to be random in the end.

The ranking takes into account which fics you would like to work on.

If, for example, there are 30 fics to choose from, you can imagine there might be lots of different ships and different topics. Perhaps you might not like that ship, or maybe gangster AUs aren’t your thing? This takes into account the artist’s preferences.

Then we take your top 5 and put it into an app/website that randomly pairs you together. If you want to get specific, the algorithm is called the Gale-Shapley algorithm and it was developed for pairing medical students to residencies.

Fun fact, Lloyd Shapley and Alvin E. Roth won the 2012 Nobel Prize in Economics to work out the algorithm.

Here's the next chapter in the Miraculous Western AU I've co-written with @uptoolateart, generously beta read by @raspberrycatapult and featuring various artists whose pieces are shared and acknowledged as they are released alongside the chapters! Written as part of the @mlbigbang.

Summary:

Guns, glitter, and getaways!

Now that the Miraculous Seven have banded together, they need to head back to the village! As the posse packs their widowmakers and poisons into a wagon that appears out of nowhere, horses get up to hijinx, muscles get to flexin', and a magician and his "assistant" get too cute for a blurb to effectively capture! Will they rise to the occasion, or will they eat gravel?

“So, that’s the story of your mother,” Ladyboots said. “What about you, Kagami?”

“Oh.” Kagami frowned. “Did I not say? My mother was good with machines but not so much with children. Felix had seen us together at one point or another—our families ran in the same circles—and he kidnapped me one night.” She said this as if it were the most natural thing in the world.

Everyone gaped at her.

“Kidnapped?” Alya echoed. “Does he keep you in chains at night? Does he let you go to the bathroom alone? Blink twice if you’re his captive!”

Kagami blinked six times, as if in bewilderment. “Yes, no, and yes. He climbed in through my window and landed right on my bed. I woke up and grabbed my sword from its scabbard, but…well, I still don’t know how he did it, but he made it disappear right out of my hands.”

“Disappear?” Luka echoed in obvious disbelief. 

“Mm-hm. In my shock, he threw me over his shoulder and leapt right out of the second-story window. We landed on a horse and took off.”

“Oh my God, y’all are so cool,” Alya said.
