Artist on the streets Project 5

I decided to make a statement wherever I went and to move with the public sphere. I am tired of seeing people follow and not be themselves. This is where I thought my poetry might make an impact. When stuck in traffic they eye tends to scan from the cars around you to the interior of ones own vehicle. So why not try to create some sort of self awareness for those around me. I wanted to make people make a conscious decision as they head to where ever they go. I will be me. To many fakers and followers and not enough leaders, and when I say leaders I mean leaders of oneself. People get trapped in other peoples webs and they need to still be in their web.

For this exercise I wanted to focus on a couple of things that are looked over in day to day life. first up is weather it is something that we focus on but not on the level we should. It is an uncontrollable force that has been seen as a god throughout different religions but we just brush it off. Second is light/ the projector screen, we use this daily in class and no one bats an eye when we do. This tech is unbelievable, we control light across thin air to manipulate shapes and images. third is the sidewalk and the ground. When was the last time you looked at the ground and thought we don’t need that. It is an essential resource in life. It helps society stay balanced and provides a foundation for moving forward. All of these things are super important to the students of MSU and they are all overlooked.

Artist is Present 

For this project I decided to take a more intimate and private performance and bring it out to the public sphere. We are at our most vulnerable in the comfort of our friends and homes and video games allows us to do both. This is me from a 10 minute 2nd place finish in the popular game Fortnight sped up to 1 minute. I wasn’t anticipating the beautiful colors from the reflection but it adds a new beauty to games that is often overlooked. I didn’t want to take this too seriously either but I honestly forgot i was recording. Due to this you see real illicit reactions and emotion from the game . You see the intense eye movement that honestly is beautiful to watch focus and determination. We have a whole culture built on it and it is sports. Except we see the eyes of what an athlete could be like.

Reading Response 4

Performance art feels like a young child pushing the boundaries of the categories or genres of art world. We live in a categorical society so people can find what they want fast. If you don’t believe me look at your Netflix categories list “critically claimed romantic comedies with a strong female lead”. That may be an exaggeration, but it is true and it effects art the same way. Rather than looking at it from an unbiased perspective, critics try to see if it is derivative or unique and care less about the message than its category. My assumption is that even though not documented this has been around forever. Think Jesters for royal families evolving into modern day comedy. Stand up comedians are like the perfect balance between philosopher and performance artists. They consider it a performance, yet get looked over by the art world due to the context and the refusal to identify a new medium during the foundation of comedy. Music is experiencing something similar in regards to sampling and the effects on genres. Noise Music for instance feels similar. It is noises that can be perceived differently every time a person listens. Performance art should evoke new feelings every time someone sees it. It is an exciting new frontier even if it has been around for a while.

Reading response #3

Time in regards to motion are very connected entities. Time is in motion, meaning it perpetually moves itself forward until it sises to exist. When will this be is an unknown, the fact it is a construct to measure space between two events on the horizon. As a result in art we tend to bent this made up line to combine different ideologies from different horizon events. Using dissonance of thoughts, beliefs, and ideals to enforce and exaggerate stereotypes. On the other hand Motion is always in time. Motion is the measure between two events from the same source, and since a source and itself are two different events on the horizon in the eyes of time. This is why we tend to see them linked. When something is moving fast or slowing down time it has a blur showing vibration a form of fast movement. and on the other hand when time is slowed or stopped we see things stand still or move to a point where it seems unnatural.

VIDEO ART PROJECT #3

I really wanted to focus on memories and how they tend to phase in and out and warp over time. Just because a memory is lost or bent does not necessarily mean it is gone. Rather it just needs a little help to be corrected. This can be done via sensory characteristics. We see Alzheimer patients respond to audio cues such as music. or people smell a candle that reminds them of the holidays or the beach. Memories are powerful but weak and we need to respect that and be cautious of bending a memory to far to be undone.

Gifs are an interesting phenomenon. It is an incredibly over saturated market that even the good iconic ones get buried. Now being used for more socially conscious en devours almost like a badge to display to show support or ideals. It has become more of a tool to connect than just a cheap laugh like many think. However a cheap laugh is always accepted and good, as long as it is at the benefit of the public and not a nuance. It still may not be an issue as it needs traction to get shared so the gif polices itself through the mas creation daily.

Project 1 

I chose to take several different styles to create a nature piece but using the post modern style to show the message that humans find beauty in everything about nature. Even though some wacky things are taking place, there is still man always trying to recreate it with photographs.
