I got to the board of elections at 7:30 am (they open at 8 am) stood in a super long line for 30 minutes. It took 30 minutes to file in and vote. They have 150 machines and the process was fast and safe! I’m not going to lie, as I approached my machine I got a little emotional. The last 4 years have been trying to say the least. I’ve never been more involved. I went to my first protests and voted in local elections. I’m doing my civic duty because right now I have rights, rights that I want to keep. Not only for myself but for my family, friends, and everyone! I encourage you to early vote, and if you’re voting by mail do it right and do it early! Vote with your community in mind. I’m hoping that unity will meet us on the other side this time.

This is me! I'm going on 3 years since I decided to transition next month and this side by side is 2 years post transition. Never did I think I would ever rock my natural hair after years of chemical straighten, but here I am. For all to see. Proud of me and my blackness. I went on my first walk, alone, in a month. Fear and anxiety had a good hold on me. Can you blame me though? A black woman was set on fire at a stop light, Breonna Taylor was killed in her own home. And her killers are still free. Can you blame me for fearing for my life? For just existing as I am? The changes happening give me hope. The people working towards changing their own lives to work towards a better society give me hope. But we still have a lot of work to do. I can't let the darkness hold power over me. So I'll rise and continue to fight for my freedom to exist.
