Definitely not laundry everyday. You rinse out the blood with cold water and store it after (air dry? ziplocks? idk) then wash them all together at the end. Personally I fill a tub with water and mix in some detergent and just put the rinsed pads in there til my period is over. I imagine the hardest part is really going to be if you're out often since in those scenarios you'll need to have ziplock bags or something similar to store used pads til you get home.

As for how many... that's the hard question. I only ever use the long night ones always and when I first got reusable pads I think I used up to 8 plus 1 or 2 disposable pads on the heaviest/longest period. But my flow was never heavy, just normalish, and I'm definitely fine with wearing them for way longer than you probably should lol. Meanwhile on my latest period I only used 3 so three days plus 2 of just using underwear for the remnants that honestly were mostly cleaned up in the toilet. Aka my periods went from needing pads on pretty much every day for 7 days to 5 day periods where the last two days even regular underwear is enough even if there is some blood. So my suggestion would be to get a pack of several to get an idea of how to deal with it and how many you'll need and then get more accordingly after. And it's always better to have some surplus be it for emergencies or to replace ones that can't be used anymore after idk years of using them.

Benefits I've personally experienced from switching over I think 2 or 3 years ago are my periods becoming shorter and lighter, not having to lay down something on the bed when sleeping while on my period, no more rashes when using pads, and ofc saving money that would be spend on disposable pads.

As for brands... I have cariona pads but you can get nice ones on etsy. If I'd known about the etsy ones back when I got mine I'd probs have bought those ones since from what I've read they're good too.
