i don't auto schedule games during the offseason because i'm worried i'll gatecrash an ongoing offseason tournament by accident or interfere with the lineal belt chasers

i really hoped it would be like blaseball 💔 every day it feels more and more like a baseball stats game based on real life with maybe a couple silly quirkies thrown in. i don't care about irl baseball or statistics or carefully curating the perfect strategy! i guess i don't really find it fun anymore,, making sure to level up all my players constantly and roll the best items and rebob the best boons just feels like a whole bunch of pointless chores

someone in my league chat once pointed out how my team was difficult to beat because i focused on certain attributes. in honor of them i've decided to go even harder on those attributes this season <3

i picked up mmolb right before season 7, and what really drew me in was the very blaseball feel of the Wither plot. After getting very invested through my first season, I saw via the dev notes on the home page that implied there’d been feedback that the mechanics were ‘annoying’ and the conclusion of the plot would come soon so as not to overstay, and there’d likely not be another event of the same flavour once it was over. I was a little disappointed, but ready to ride out the current plot, hoping it’d at least end with a bang before stabilizing into whatever the vision for the game was.

That… didn’t happen. Season 8 was an interesting evolution but also kind of lacklustre, there were no unique interactions between Corrupted/Effloresced players or Effloresced players with the Efflorescence or Wither weathers. The big end of Consumption Sounded promising as one last complication before it all ended for good.. and well. I can’t argue with the vote results, apparently most players wanted the election option that was to me the most boring. But even then I was still so disappointed in the implementation. I hated season 9, the flood of nothing events that made hitting home runs not fun anymore and added nothing in the way of inspiring me to characterize my players I’d grown very attached to. I was still going to keep going with the game, but I was getting really anxious about season 10. The information on site about what it would look like was so limited, the dev notes accessible on the site explained absolutely nothing. I had no interest in joining the discord, but I did to try to figure out how drastically the game would be changing, and I still couldn’t find any concise information, only very technical discussion with the assumption that everyone in the discord seemed to already know what to expect? But season 10 came and I logged in and it was worse than I feared. My team feels alien, I don’t like the levels system and all the work I put into my team is gone (builds I did for fun/characterization, not To Win Every Game), and the Clubhouse, the fun bit of characterization left in the game, is now just gone without any notice

I am forced to conclude that this new direction of MMOLB just. isn’t for My type of baseball sim fan. When I joined in Season 7, it had room to be enjoyed by all sorts of participants, but now it really feels like it caters to just one type. I have to be okay with that and move on, but I’m really deeply disappointed and I’m still very fond of my team and I’m sad that I don’t have the sim to play with and inspire creativity and character development. On the other hand, I don’t know how long I could have kept up with it anyway. The dev seems committed to keeping the breakneck pace of blaseball that already caused problems with that game, and as far as I’m aware MMOLB has Just One Person developing code and coming up with all the new ideas to throw into every season. Maybe it was never a good idea to expect any consistency or stability, but everything I heard about it when I joined REALLY looked like my kind of jam and I had no way of knowing how much it would change and how soon. I don’t know, just sucks maaannnn… oh well, we move on to enjoy other things elsewhere

honest to god just miss season 0 and the early seasons yeah they had less control over player stuff but the simplicity and novelty were so awesome, now there’s a Meta and i’m confused and frustrated all the time with all the changes

i've never really vibed with the way the attributes have been described in-game, they feel very outcomes-based rather than like. reflecting the processes that occur when baseball happens, if that makes sense?
