Late night doodling and decided to do the JJK naoya meme but with the Mickey design from Sega Lucky Kuji Online "Disney Characters / Cool! Collection 2026" 「ディズニーキャラクター/クール!コレクション2026」 cuz it’s fun and I like the design so much like Mickey got so much drip lol
Also did some style exploration of this fit with different render style cuz I feel like it lol
Should I animate the Mickey JJK meme
YESSSSSS
NOPE
The fact that in China (such a huge market population-wise) they are reading a lot of the same comics we are (Korhonen's journals, for example) and we know nearly nothing about what they think about it, consumes me. There is an unknown, but probably sizeable, chunk of readers who could be contributing in unchartable ways and we know so little about them.
I’m from Hong Kong where it have its own weird Disney comic publishing going on, but there was a time in the late 2000s to the early 2010 when my family would go to the shenzhen book city in China which is semi close to hk for cheap books and CD, and I would buy the pocket books above and the magazine below. There’s a lot Disney books and comic on the kids shelves back in that period ( like I remember seeing don rosa and Floyd gottfredson collections as well as the egmount stories published in a larger form of graphic novels), but they have started to disappear from shelves by mid 2010s and last time I went there in early 2019 I can barely find either the pocket book or the magazine.
I used to own quite a bit of collections of those pocket books and magazines. They helped me discovered the larger cast of Disney characters like Trudy and stories like the regular Paperinik ones, DoubleDuck and wizard of Mickey. In fact, the idea of Mickey with magic axe and Donald as a superhero is so cool to kid me as a concept that I created a Disney superhero AU that I still worked on today, while the research for that AU development led me diving more into Disney comics like PKNA and actually superheroes comic like Marvel and DC. Unfortunately that collections was tossed away as I didn’t hv space to move them to UK, although I started buying the English and Italians ones since I moved to Europe
I can also talk about the Hong Kong ones, as they has been sparingly reprinted the comic in similar form as the mainland China one from time to time. For instance, they only reprinted the first 15 of the pocket books from mainland China one in traditional Chinese as well as one or two large random egmount Mickey comic collections, and weirdly enough they make some of the comic stories into novel form in the early 2010 which is how I know about mickey’s shambor saga ( the second story before the first one as well) and some Floyd gottfredson stories when they rewrote it so Minnie shares more importance to the plot.
