love the way odasaku keeps insisting that he's just some guy and not a hero or someone remarkable and deserving of attention because while he can't quite forgive himself for everything he did he still tries to be better and this idea of being an ordinary person allows him to lower his expectations for himself and lift the burden off his shoulders a little bit

he isn't the main character and somehow that's more freeing than anything else he could've told himself

and he never intended to become a role model for dazai, he actively rejects the idea of being a moral paragon or whatever. he just wanted his friend to live a better, happier, more hopeful life and what ultimately convinces dazai to consider walking a different path is the fact that it's the same path odasaku took to save himself and not because he wanted to set a moral example for anyone or be seen as a hero
