"But you could have easily said..." Mari was cut off by the owner of the bakery coming with samples of cakes. It wasn't her choice of bakery. Mari usually had lists of ones that she preferred and knew the amazing jobs they did, but with this being the bride's top place, she had to cave in. Afterall, it wasn't her wedding. "And here are the samples for the gorgeous couple," The baker placed multiple choices of cakes in front of them with a huge grin. "Oh -- no, we're not." she let out an awkward laugh. "I'm just the wedding planner," she informed her. Seeing the other woman's smile alter a bit, she gave a nod while giving them a list of what the cakes were in front of them before saying she would check on them in a few minutes, or to call her if they had any questions. Inhaling deeply, Mari picked up her fork while shifting in the seat uncomfortably, now staring at the sample cakes that were now in front of them. "What's her favorite flavor?"

He leaned back in his chair when the owner appeared at their table, clearing his throat and looking down at his own legs. Yes, he could have said... But that would've also meant telling Amy the truth about him and Mari, about how she hadn't just been some hookup, and about how Amy had been the one who – after Mari, Matty had found simply as a distraction, as first. It had felt simpler to just .. keep his mouth shut.

But now here they were, being mistaken for a couple and testing wedding cakes, and once again, he shifted uncomfortably in his seat as Mari corrected the patron. How did he even get roped into a wedding, anyway? He'd never been one for marriage. But it was important to Amy, so he'd gone down on one knee. And now Mari was asking about Amy's favorites and he didn't know how to tell her that he didn't really know what she loved. "She likes .. lemon, I suppose," he said with a noncommitted shrug. "You know ... fruit stuff." He also picked up a tiny fork and used it to cut part of one of the cupcakes, then swallowed it. It tasted like cake. "I don't know, what do you think?"

" i work for them. they... well. those people, they're enemies to the people i work for. more specifically, they were enemies. " it was hard saying the truth, the words sticky on his tongue, gumming up behind his teeth as he tore them past his lips like curse words. all his efforts to hide this double life, and here they were, with angel about to spill all the grit of himself. he looked up at her, needing to see a glimpse of that care she held in her eyes for him, desperate to see a faint hint of there, still lingering.

his hands rubbed down her sides, over the outsides of her thighs, down to her ankles before standing again, and pulling her bare frame into him for another embrace. She was putty in his hands. Since the moment she'd been so violently grabbed, she'd been on such high alert, in a constant heightened state of adrenaline and pure, unbridled fear, and now that she was finally safe again, it was as if her body couldn't move by itself even if she tried.

Enemies, he said. The word sounded strange to her - enemies were something from stories, or something said playfully as children when they'd played capture the flag. But Angel's tone sent a shiver down her naked spine, and all she could do was stare at him as he continued to undress her.

Most of the dirt and the blood was on her clothes, now scattered on the floor around her, but she still felt dirty, like she'd never be clean again now that she'd seen such an ugly side of humanity. And still, despite that, none of her revulsion was aimed at Angel. Her savior. He pulled her closer to him, and instinctively her arms wrapped tightly around him, even as silent tears dripped down her cheeks and onto his neck.

Gang rivalry. It sounded almost like a death warrant, the way he said it. But before she could respond, before she could refute his apologies, he drew back from her and walked over to the bath, and it wasn't until he was guiding her closer once more that she suddenly slung her arms around his neck again, desperate to have him close, suddenly fearing not for her own life, but for his.

"Oh my god, Angel," she breathed into his neck, burying her face there for a moment but then pulling away to give him a gentle, yet desperate kiss. "You have to be careful," she whispered into his lips. "Please, you ... You have to promise me that you'll be careful." She'd seen how he could hold his own, but still there was a sudden, distinct fear settling deep in the pit of her stomach. "Promise me."

Was he jealous? Maybe. Just because Midas could do whatever he want and get away with it, it seemed. Eloi always had to report to someone, be there for the people he served - he rarely had a day or even a night off. There was no time for lovemaking. Eloi tried not to picture Midas on his last night - because that was enough to get him excited. He challenged Midas a few times, swinging around his blade and starting some sort of a fight with him. Sometimes, people pitied Midas for being the second-born. The spare. But while his older brother was being groomed into being the perfect heir, given everything needed to follow in their father's footsteps when the time came, Midas had one thing his brother could only dream of: freedom. A freedom that he used, voraciously, to his advantage. Looking around the courtyard for a moment and finding it - to his luck - empty, he chuckled as an idea formed in his mind.

He laughed at the other's words and shook his head, dodging his mentor's sword in the meantime and blocking off the swings aimed at him, all the while trying to get in a few jabs of his own. "Are they?" he then challenged, keeping his sword still and breathing hard for a moment, to trick his mentor into a pause, before moving his sword skillfully until it was at the other's neck, pinning him between his own sword and the wall behind. Maybe he'd actually caught his mentor by surprise, maybe Eloi was just indulging him, but Midas nonetheless stepped closer, careful not to actually break skin with his sword. "Hm," he then said, free hand confidently reaching out and cupping at the other's groin in a move so bold it even felt out of place for someone as self-assured as the prince. "So much cloth here, hard to tell," he hummed lowly, never taking his eyes off the other.

blake thought about it, he really did. giving mia a break would be a good thing, she would probably be grateful, but all he could think about was all the free product she had already gotten and she was already asking him for more. now she was looking at him like he was the crazy one, like she wasn't the one trying to score free drugs from her drug dealer. "i'm dead serious." he said, shrugging his shoulders.

"you said that last week, and the week before that." he said, shaking his head. "i'm tired of giving you free shit. this is the only way you're getting anything from me until you're all paid up." he raised an eyebrow, smirking slightly. Her heart was beating fast in her ears, the pressure building and her whole face reddening with each second that passed and each moment she realized that he was, in fact, dead serious. She tried to think of other ways out, but her mind came up completely blank, and she felt frozen to the floor as she tried to come to grips with what he was asking of her.

At his crude words, though, she regained some of her footing. "Okay you can't keep changing the terms," she demanded, though she did know that she had very little to stand on. It was enough to have her make a decision, and negotiate with him at the same time. "– But .. Fine. I'll suck you off, but we're not gonna fuck," she said, trying to sound confident and in charge. "And I don't swallow."

She sighs and crosses her arms over her chest, but doesn't let herself get baited into giving him a reply – at first. "You know his name is James," she can't help but say, eyeing him a bit suspiciously even now. She still doesn't know what he's doing here (they hadn't exactly ended things on the best of terms, and she could've easily shipped the box of his stuff), and she'd tried her absolute best to move on from him. Case in point: James. Who she really liked and whose design choices she hadn't questioned, until now.

But then more words fill the room, and Mia's jaw just about drops. "– What?" She'd heard him just fine. "Fritz, you can't be ..." she doesn't finish her sentence, still processing what he'd just said. With a deep breath, she finally looks at him for longer than a second, and shakes her head. "Is this a joke?"

“I can’t be the only one to think this is fucking weird, right?” Mari muttered under her breath while waiting for the owner of the bakery to bring out some cake samples. After getting a text from the other’s significant other that they weren’t going to make it, Mari’s stomach was in knots with knowing she had to be stuck with them for a few hours. “Why did you even agree to hire me?”

Fiery eyes keep watch of him, waiting for a reply that would satisfy her (impossible) – but then he speaks, and keeps talking, and in an instant, Emma's cheeks flush red with shame and her left hand feels twice as heavy. "That's.." she's startled, and shuts herself up before saying anything else, because it's not different, and she knows it. Instead, all she can do is put up her own defences. "That's not an answer," she says, crossing her arms and conveniently hiding her ringed hand while she does so.

Jordan wasn't really all that present, everything had been such a blur, the panic that had surrounded her from others, the rush in which everyone moved, and yet, Jordan felt she was moving at a much slower pace. Her eyes stayed focused on a spot on the wall, a small scratch in the wallpaper that either she'd never noticed before her disappearance, or was just simply wear and tear of the last 8 years without her, but it was easier to lock her eyes there than to look at or focus on anyone else in the room.

With a blanket wrapped around her shoulders, an officer stood off to the side talking with her parents when she'd heard the ringing of the doorbell. At first thought, probably some local journalist wanting to cash in on a connection to her or her parents for the inside scoop, but that voice… that voice that spoke lowly with the second officer…

"Mitch?" Jordan spoke up, loudly for the first time, as she rose from the couch to get a better look. Dressed in the same clothes she'd worn the night of her disappearance, seeing him, all grown up, it caused her bottom lip to tremble, a flood of emotions threatening with all their might to spill over.

Part of him had expected to be turned away. The fear of it had settled deep down in his stomach as he'd walked up to the steps, quietly simmering and wondering what right he thought he had to be allowed into her house now that so many years had passed and he'd picked up his life again. His heart was beating fast, burning in his throat as he'd spoken up and told the officer his name, and the other man had barely begun to shake his head in denial when he heard her voice.

Oh. Her voice.

She said his name, and it was like a weight lifted off his shoulders, one he'd forgotten that he was carrying because it'd become his new normal. "Jordan," he called out, almost in a trance, pushing the door open further and completely ignoring the police man. There was only one thing on his mind, he needed to see her. Now.

Still, the moment he did, he froze. She was there. Right in front of him. Looking almost exactly like she had in his memory – her beautiful blonde hair, those loving blue eyes ... But she looked worn down. Burdened by what had happened to her, and the guilt of it overwhelmed him so much, it's as if he was back in that first night, when a search party had been frantically put together and Mitch had spent hours in the police station, first being interrogated as a suspect and then later, when they'd cleared him, running point for the volunteers who'd shown up to help find her.

But they hadn't, and still, she was here. Teary-eyed, he could only stare, the wind completely knocked out of him as he took her in. There she was. "You're .. Home."

blake watched as she stood from the couch and stopped in front of him, a chuckle falling from his lips. "it does sound insane when you think back on it." he said with a laugh. "but you know what else is insane? thinking you'll get free drugs just because you're pretty. well mia, you're gorgeous. so let's put those looks to good use and get a fuck out of you."

he leaned back on the couch, sighing deeply. "you can say no, but then you won't be getting your drugs until you pay me what you owe." he said with a shrug. "or, you can get what you want today, and all you have to do is put out. the choice is yours."

For a second, she thought her insult had smacked some sense into him, but her hope was short lived and her face fell when he spoke so brazenly before she shook her head, as if that would make her unhear what he'd said. How dare he?

"You cannot be serious," she still said, trying to find some way out of here, one where she wouldn't have to humiliate herself for his pleasure but also get what she wanted. "Look, I told you, I can pay you back next week. Just .. Give me one more chance. Please?"

" it was a desperate promise, a plea on his lips that begged for her forgiveness in the curvature of their frown. knitted brows pulled above his eyes, and he pet her hair with both hands, smoothing it down across the side of her head. planting a kiss to the top of it, angel sucked in a stabilizing breath, and repeated himself. it was for both of their benefits. " i'm still your angel. "

but he had to get her home. promising the full story, everything she could want to know, angel got her back to his apartment and started a bath for her. while the water was running and filling the soapy tub, angel returned to her side. it was hard to be apart from her, knowing how scared and unsure she was, but he needed to get her safe, and calm, and clean, and reassured.

he needed her to know that he wasn't an evil man.

he needed her to know that if she left him, he'd break.

" come on. i got a bath ready for you. " he slid his hands down her sides, gripping the hem of her bloodied shirt to help slide it from her body. " what do you want to know first? "

His words rang true in her ears, all the way to his home and even while he got the bath ready for her. It had been a bit of a joke between them at first, using his first name to talk about how he'd saved her from the life of nothingness she'd gotten stuck in, how he'd given her meaning again. Now, all she could do was stand there, silent tears still rolling down her cheeks every few moments as she waited for him to guide her.

Even now, being in his apartment felt like coming home, and when he was once again close to her, she looked up at him with red, swollen eyes, but then mindlessly let him undress her anyway, questions forming in her mind that she didn't know how to ask without making this whole ordeal reality. "Who .. " she began as he nudged her, looking back down to watch him as he helped her out of her pants. "Who were those people?" Her voice sounded foreign to her – weak and scared, but still her eyes never stopped searching for his gaze, searching for answer in his face and reassurance that he was, in fact, still her angel. "How did you know them?"

While Eloi wanted to grin and pat him on the shoulder like a friend would, he still had to maintain somewhat professional and show him courtesy. "You act like I have all the time in the world, my lord. I have better things to do than to train a lazy prince." He teased Midas, brows raising at the assumption of jealousy. Eloi scoffed and lifted his sword with a surprise swing, head tilting to a side. "Jealous of a prince who can not dodge a swing? Nah." He served the royal family for ever since he could remember, being the son of the kings, Midas' father, right hand. Eloi grew up in and around the castle and had been training Midas for a few years now. "But it's good to know you do all of this to try and get a reaction from me."

His words could've been taken as an insult, but Midas only chuckled and then shook his head, not bothered in the slightest. As a matter of fact, he took a sliver of pride in his laziness, even if it was a source of contemption between him and his father. Naturally, that laziness didn't always benefit him, especially not when the other raised his sword and Midas barely missed the blade by an inch – and only because Eloi hadn't had any actual intention of getting him.

Still, the action got Midas ready, and after swinging his own sword around twice, to get the feel of it, he pushed his hair back and focused on the task at hand. "Oh - I got plenty of reaction last night, don't worry," he teased, signature smirk on his face now that he's fully awake. In a practiced motion, the blade traced a smooth arc through the air, and it was obvious the prince was well trained. "Maybe if you'd get some reactions of your own, your shoulders wouldn't be drawn up to your ears."

Wren nearly screamed when she stepped into the back kitchen of the bakery she owned, the tray slipping from her hands and clattering harmlessly against the floor. She spun on him, heart racing, glare sharp enough to cut. “You cannot just show up here,” she snapped. “This is my business.” She crouched to retrieve the empty tray, forcing herself to breathe before looking back up at him. “What do you want now? I gave you your money.”

The difference in demeanor between them both couldn't have been bigger – she looked like she was about to start shaking with anxiety, he stood there so casually that he could be mistaken for some guy waiting in line at a coffee shop. Which, of course, he wasn't. He kept chewing his gum and stayed quiet for a little longer as he watched her pick up the tray (he never was a man of many words), but then finally spoke. "You missed the interest," he said with a shrug and a slight grimace. "Which .. I know was a mistake, because you'd never knowingly short me. Ain't that right?"

She's in the living room, putting away trinkets she's never seen before and mentally reciting some key notes about her own new identity when the bell rings, and she gasps in surprise annat the sound. They'd only moved in this morning, who could possibly already need them? Carefully looking out the window to see more, she sees two people holding a tray of some sorts, and groans. The last thing she wants to do in this new house, with this new.. roommate, is have to entertain.

Still, she calls out to them. "Hey - uhm.." It still feels weird to call them by their name, knowing full well that just like hers, theirs is also fake. "I think there's neighbors at the door," she says as she opens the door to their bedroom and looks at them, unsure look on her face. "Should we ... I mean, we should, right?" she's hesitant, but what else are they to do? Pretend not to be home? The neighbors must've seen the U-Haul outside just a short while ago.

The grass is ruined where he brazenly pulls up his jeep and comes to a screeching halt, but Mitch is barely focused enough to drive, let alone watch where he parks. There's no way, he keeps thinking, but that's as far as his mind gets, because really – this is insane. He keeps replaying his friend's phone call in his mind, understanding none of what they were saying except that they were back, and eventually ending the call when every single follow up question Mitch asked had been met with a confused 'man .. all I heard is that they're back.'

So now he's here, once more walking up to a house that was once so familiar to him, and now had become so, so foreign. There's also a police car in the driveway, which stops him in his tracks for a moment, because maybe he shouldn't be here. Maybe he should wait - let the dust settle, let things get cleared up, let the police do their work, maybe even a doctor. But as if moving by themselves, his legs begin carrying him up the porch once more, and before he knows it, he rings the doorbell, and even faster, the door opened, and he's greeted by a face he doesn't recognize. "Uhm," he stumbles at first, completely lost for words. "I – Uh .. My name is Mitch. I'm ... a friend." He sounds dejected as he speaks, but what else is he supposed to say? "Can I .. see them?"

blake arched an eyebrow at her reaction. he didn't think it was that big of an issue. "no, i'm not joking." he said finally, shaking his head slightly. "you want more drugs, then you need to earn it or pay for it. and since you've already snaked me out of drugs without paying these past few instances, this is how you'll repay me for those times and then be able to get these." he said, shaking the baggy in front of her face.

he smirked a bit, leaning forward. "don't tell me this is the first time you've been asked to fuck for something?" he teased. "you've got the tits and the face. I bet you're a great lay."

Mia had to fight the urge to slap that devious smirk – and those foul words – right off his face, but she kept herself just composed enough to stay still. Or maybe frozen was the right word. Had she used her body to get what she wanted in the past? .... Yes. But that had always been her decision. This was different.

She looked at the little baggie in his hand, then once more at him, but before she could talk herself into it, she sprung up from the couch for some distance between them and then defiantly crossed her arms across her chest. "You're insane," she chided, doing her damned best to keep her feet planted firmly on the ground and make herself look a lot more self-assured.
