???% Mob at Colossalcon
incomplete list of weird/interesting manga-anime discrepancies
-you know the bit where they break into the girls highschool in episode 2? yea thats chapter 56. spliced into the middle of chapter 4. its supposed to go before the bit with the ghost family as a lead up to the mogami arc with mob starting to consider evil spirits as just as much “people” as living humans are. all things considered its kind of weird how well it fits its anime placement
-ritsu in the manga gets introduced in the same chapter as teru. you dont see mobs family at all for the first few chapters. infact i dont think his parents appear until like. chapter 25????? every interaction you see between mob and any of his family is completely made up for the anime
-in the manga during the claw arc instead of reigen sending them away all the lackeys just stood there awkwardly during the fight w the scars fdnjksndkjgnd
-mogami arc got GUTTED my god. the part where the fake psychics tried to murder minori got removed, shinras role in the arc got reduced to basically nothing, they move mogamiland ritsu to a bridge like 50 feet away instead of having him walk right over mob, mob only gets beat up like twice, the cat lives, the boxcutter bit is totally removed, the fight with the spirits is made a lot more abstract and less graphic. like im glad this one took the hit instead of the separation arc bc i cant imagine that arc ever being effective as one episode but wow.
-putting the “mob finding his family dead” thing at the end of the episode instead of in the middle of a chapter where it originally was was an objectively hilarious move
-rip the scene of teru outsmarting all three claw guys and saying “say old man have you ever been tortured before” unfortunately all scenes of teru being competent are not plot relevant and must die. also teru can make shadow clones
-hey remember those weird satellite people in claw keeping the viewer updated on where all the characters were in that infinite arc?
-mob with a gun.
-mob getting briefly knocked out while fighting toichiro and dimple possessing him then getting kicked out was replaced w toichiro just throwing him out the window or somethhing???
-toichiro saying that he only kept the super five around as spare batteries and draining serizawas power getting cut was a personal affront to me
-every single emotion mob cycled through in the anime got a 100% meter. the kid was super emotionally unstable in that fight
-that old man whos house they went to whos wraith made everyone asleep that they exorcised? yea they anime team made that up. they never went to his house in the manga, he just went to spirits and such for a shoulder massage
-manga reigen got 0 money for helping the yokai dude. it wasnt on the table. also most of the stuff he was saying was lifted from a video game serizawa played which he pointed out. also serizawa thought getting arrested was a type of spell
-takenakas general meanness was significantly toned down manga takenaka was a huge bitch
-in general the alien arc was a lot funnier in the manga? like the scene where reigen crashes they had reached a dead end on an extremely narrow path and were driving in reverse while tome and takenaka were screaming at each other in the back and inukawa was 5 seconds from snapping and killing everyone in the car. these might be my favorite pages in the entire manga they as so fucking funny
-originally when tome said she wouldnt keep climbing reigen suggested mob carry her with telekinesis (which horrified her) and mob said he was too motion sick to use his powers (obvious lie) but could carry her instead which got her to get up
-mezato asking mob to sign a t shirt for the psycho helmet cult in exchange for relationship advice got cut
-i cry every day that the sequence of ???% waking up didnt get animated it set a very different tone than the anime did. the anime was like. slow build up of dread. the manga was immediately bone deep horror i was literally sitting in my room yelling “WHAT???” over and over again at my computer as i clicked through it
-shigeo and mob conversation cut down significantly, all the references to the body improvement club being mob making a new self rather than embracing who he really is and being scared that all the friends hes made wouldnt like the real him removed </3
-the scene where reigen takes his shoes off is made a lot less somber and depressing. it feels less like “oh he knows hes going to die” and more like. triumphant? in the anime
-100% shigeo kageyama is an anime addition they added specifically to ruin my “the first time we see mob 100% is to fight dimple and the last time is to stop himself from fighting dimple” observation
-anime teru generally seems like hes in a better place than manga teru? manga teru seems very melancholy and like he doesn’t really know what to do with his life or his place in the world (which seems to put shigeo off) but anime teru is like wanna go shopping ^_^ *sips tea happily*
-manga shigeo deliberately threw the cake directly in reigens face and my fury over them making this ambiguous will last until i am dead

i feel like mp100 is one of the few anime (and shows in general tbh) that lets weird girls be weird and i appreciate that
YESSSSSS!! I love how weird the girls get to be! They're not cute or quirky in that smoothed-over, palatable way a lot of supposed-to-be-weird characters end up being; they know what they want and they're going to be absolutely deranged about it. And it's that very specific brand of middle school weirdness, too, where they're leaning into it extra hard because they can see all these important responsibilities looming on the horizon and soon they won't have time to look for aliens or bully their friend into being the figurehead of their pet cult!
I love how when Mezato gets introduced you get like five minutes of going "okay, she's the Plucky Girl Reporter, I know this archetype" but NO! Actually she is so much weirder than that! She wants to start a cult for fun! And she wants it to be a good cult, so she's swanning around ineffectually trying to teach Mob leadership skills while leading the entire Psycho Helmet Religion on talking about how she'll produce their founder really soon, okay, she promises!
And Tome! She's loud and brash and kind of abrasive and pretends to cry to get her way and doesn't take no for an answer--and her friends love her, and the narrative takes her emotions seriously, and she GETS TO MEET ALIENS, and everything about her is just SO good!
I just read the Reigen manga and I'm obsessed with how Tome starts high school and is like "I'm an adult now. I can only like boring things and I must befriend these boring people" and is MISERABLE, obviously, and then the second she gets these "boring" girls to let their guard down they turn out to be absolutely as weird and intense and obsessive as she is! She's been going around thinking they're normal and dull because they're better at masking than she is and then it turns out that one of them has a special interest in eating bugs! Amazing, fantastic, no notes.
ONE really said Weird Girl Rights with MP100 and I will be forever grateful.

Every character in Mob Psycho is so lonely at the beginning of the series, but they all express it in different ways so they don’t realize they’re all dealing with the same problem!
Mob makes himself small and quiet and blends in and does his best to never make a scene and never ask for anything and never think about what he wants. Reigen makes himself big and loud boisterous and takes up as much space as possible–but it’s all show, it’s all slight-of-hand, it’s a magic trick so everyone looks where he wants them to and he doesn’t have to risk anyone seeing through him. Ritsu makes himself perfect and dutiful and studious and pours himself into the mold of A Good Son, A Good Student, A Good Brother, and thinks that if he buries himself deep enough no one can touch him. Teru makes himself sharp and brilliant and frightening and puts himself at the top of the pyramid and convinces himself that it’s a feature that no one can get close to him. Dimple does the same thing–makes himself into a god and a monster, someone who only sees humans as pawns. Never equals. Never friends.
Everyone has walled themselves off from genuine connection, convinced themselves that there’s an important reason they’re alone that isn’t just that they’re afraid, and the series is about all of those walls being torn down, bit by bit. There are a million ways to be lonely, but the solution to all of them, every time, is vulnerability and kindness.
Dimple's so sproingy in every body he possesses except for the original LOL dude. Must have been so hard to make himself act normal. Just constant internal reminders that it's not very godly of him to go flip flip flip all over the place so he has to wait to do parkour about it until after everyone's left
#'you put dimple in a body and he will get the zoomies' #<- prev #this is such a funny visual he goes up to mob like 'mob PLEASE let me in if i cant do a backflip im going to DIE' #and mobs like ok whatever (secretly really wants to do a backflip) (1st tag mine, others from @serrangelic)
askdjk yes. Ritsu wakes up at 1am bc of some weird noises and it’s his brother literally bouncing off the walls bc he let the resident evil spirit possess him again and they’re doing acrobatics
Art in honor of the last arc. This ending is so perfect. I’m still so emotional over it.
aroace reigen stans rise up!!
[ID: A digital comic of Reigen Arataka from Mob Psycho 100.
The first panel is Reigen leaning back in his desk chair with a self-satisfied smile. He says "Eh, you want advice on how to ask a girl out, Mob? Of course, I know aaall about that."
Behind him we see the inner Reigen who is clasping a hand over his mouth, looking anxious and sweating profusely. He is clutching the ace and aro flags in his left hand and thinking "Shit what do I tell him, I have no clue..."
Next panel is Reigen turning around looking desperate and thinking "well surely Serizawa-"
His thought is then interrupted by the next panel which shows Serizawa smiling brightly and saying "I've never liked a girl in my life!" surrounded by sparkles. Behind him Reigen can only watch in faint horror, thinking "WE'RE FUCKED." end ID.]
My heart goes out to anime only fans this week. I'm just remembering how much these last chapters destroyed me in the manga.
POV- You join a mysterious cult... and the leader looks like this.
Flashback to 2018 when I wore the infamous monkey shirt and no one got the reference.
If anyone was curious about the class rankings from Season 3 episode 1, I compiled them all. Poor Telepathy Club and Body Improvement Club! Jun is apparently super smart though, and Mob is about in the middle.
In my mission to cosplay every version of Mob, here is my new 100%/ ???%
Also, having way too much fun with Photoshop filters!

20,000 FRAMES? 20,000??????????
okay wait im rbing this again to emphasise how absolutely fucking insane this is.
the average modern anime episode has (not counting OPs and EDs) between 3000 to 5000 frames of animation and runs at the industry standard frame rate of 24fps. big name productions like attack on titan or my hero academia top out at 8000 to 10,000 frames for important episodes/battles. some sources (dudes on reddit) put gurren lagann at 15,000 frames for it finale, but i wasnt able to find any sources on that. the point is, 20,000 frames is absolutely buckwild for a serialized, non-blockbuster movie budget production.
the only other anime that has ever done something like this (at least, as far as i know) was one piece. specifically, one piece episode 1017, which also had 20,000 frames, including a 30 second sequence comprised of 1692 frames (thats just over 56fps btw, more than double the industry standard). google ‘luffy vs kaido’ if you wanna check it out, i know nothing about one piece but in and of itself it is some absolutely stunning animation.
now i dont know what episode of mp100 is gonna be this 20,000 frame monstrosity, i’ll make a tentative guess of mob vs ???%, but we won’t know for certain until it airs. either way i need people to appreciate the genuine insanity it is for roughly 20 minutes of animation to have 20,000 frames. its as equally amazing as it is terrifying. the anime industry is notoriously explotatative, underpaying animators and demanding the nigh impossible from them. i have to hope with this big gap between seasons 2 and 3, and the fact that all of the episodes were completed before the season even begins airing means that the animators weren’t put under ridiculous crunches to produce this 20,000 frame episode and were also paid well for their work. however, im aware that this likely isnt the case, what with us being trapped in a late stage capitalist hellscape and all.
when this episode drops, i need people to hype the shit out of the animators. not studio bones, not ONE-sensei, but the individual animators who worked on the episode, because they have achieved something absolutely unhinged, and they probably didnt even get paid a fair wage for it. mp100 stands as one of the single most amazing examples of what animation, as a medium, can achieve, and it does so because the people who work on this show love it enough to do something absolutely batshit wild like put 20,000 frames of animation in one episode.
(also, the anime industry REALLY needs to unionize already)
I want to cosplay Serizawa so bad but I'm just a tiny little Mob. Doesn't help that my Reigen is way taller than me.... Should I attempt to be a big manly man?
