If you make goth clothing, decor, accessories, etc
please
please please please
please stop putting crosses on literally everything.
I know that they're a staple of goth fashion. I know. But not everyone is Christian. Not everyone wants to wear or surround themselves with Christian symbols. There are a lot of goths who would die happy if we they never had to see a cross again. Please.
This really resonated with folks, huh.
currently experiencing Agonies because I managed to turn an already small fandom (Sleep No More) into an even smaller fandom (the Sleep No More ttrpg I made up) and I have no one to talk to about it except for the handful of people who have played it and like 3 people from the SNM discord
on a related note. would anyone like to listen to what is admittedly not a great quality recording of a ttrpg playthrough
the spirit is willing but the flesh is so fucking out of it rn. actually the flesh would like to pack it up and leave. it's done with the horrors.
The fact that people don't think friendship is enough to justify characters doing insane acts of love for each other baffles me. Like have you never loved your friend so so much you want to live in their ribcage. Have you never been really weird about a friend. Have you never wanted to bite your friends parents or shove them down a staircase. Have you never wanted to be buried in the same grave as a friend. Have u never. How do u people live like this.
if you want to experience life more deeply you have to find more beauty. stop training yourself to dismiss, to mock, to assume the worst all the time — when you do this you build walls between yourself and the world. and after a while you stop feeling the warmth of it entirely.
beauty requires openness. it asks you to let things reach you, to soften enough to be moved. it’s not naive to see beauty everywhere—it’s a skill, a form of intelligence, a kind of quiet bravery. because it is so much easier to critique than to create, to detach than to engage, to dismiss than to love.
let yourself be affected. let yourself find things beautiful and let that be enough. life is not asking you to be cool, sitting on the sidelines and nitpicking everything. it’s asking you to see life and experience it fully.
there are too many things happening this summer that i'm thinking we are going to need an extra 6-12 months of june and possibly another 3-4 months of july. probably no extra august as the problem should hopefully sort itself out by then. we are also looking into extending the day night cycle to 55 hours and extending the human lifespan to 10000 years.
how do i say "horror novels these days are too woke" without sounding like a right winger. what i mean is: this one is about a woman serial killer who kills Bad Men, that one is about ~anticapitalist activists~, this one is ~queer~, that one is about *spins wheel* someone dealing with the ghosts of their immigrant roots, all of them are about intergenerational traumaaaaa. okay. cool. but is it good though. is it fucking scary
something something, losing the ability to convey horror through abstraction, through metaphor, through symbolism, through allegory, through raw unexamined un-psychiatrized feeling. if the real horror is.... dun dun dun! the patriarchy then i just feel preached to. don't use fiction as a vehicle for Saying Something About Society. write with total vulnerability and then see what it says. it will be probably be far more interesting and horrifying than what if the monster was uhh my mom's abuse or whatever. this brand of new horror writers are all so terrified of actually disclosing anything about themselves. it's like if an instagram infographic performance was a mediocre contemporary novel
YOU ARE MAKING THE TEXT DO THE WORK OF ANALYSIS!!!!!!!
How do cats just manifest trash. You’ll vacuum your entire house and turn around and your cat will be running around with a kind of cardboard that didn’t exist until two seconds ago.
this is going around twitter rn but im also super curious: please tell me your top four comfort movies that you’re always down to watch bc my friend thinks mine are ridiculous and now we’ve realised everyone’s version of “comfort” is hilariously different
having unwashed hair will have you believing shit like i can’t be saved
please say sike
I need all of these people to 1. Start Reading Shakespeare and 2. Read a Little Play Called Noises Off.
See how that dialogue only reading works out for ya.
No wonder the reading comprehension is piss poor if all you get is a little bit of dialogue. Babes. The themes and motifs are in the WHOLE thing, this isn't just listening to the TV dialogue while you play games on your phone.
Wait, wait, wait, no, go back.
"Prioritizing character development and plot" means writing exclusively or almost exclusively dialogue?
How????
"Prioritize prose" babes you can do both.
I have historically had incredible problems with my writing being weighted too heavily in favor of dialogue (not on purpose; it's just easier for me to write), and it for goddamn sure did not lessen my "there is no actual plot holding this book together," problem. If anything, it made the problem worse. I have so many scenes on my hard drive that are just "characters sitting around talking in very engaging voices while nothing fucking happens."
And you know what else? I have always been praised for how real my characters are. And it's not because of the words in quotation marks.
(I mean, okay, sure, partially it is, but the characters also have to, you know, do things and feel things and think things).
"Prioritize prose." Do they know what prose means? It doesn't meant internal monologue or narration. It's literally just non-verse writing. The dialogue is also prose.
You can prioritize your prose and narrative style and voice and also your fucking characters and plot, and if anything, your prose will only refine the latter.
the thing is that for all its supposed faults, i would take this brand of 90s utopian globalism over whatever the fuck we’ve been doing for the last 10 years in a heartbeat
I mean, it’s still the 25th of May somewhere.
Btw. If you're a teacher and you catch one of your students (kids, tweens, teens) using AI for the first time, please be gentle with them.
Last week i was looking into one of my teen's homework when I noticed she was writing words she "wasn't supposed to know" in english (like "furthermore", for example. They only know very intermediary english) I got a bit mad for a second. I wear an "anti-AI" button all the time, i even told them before why i was anti-AI, yet she didn't listen to me and thought she could get away with it... But i decided to keep it cool because i didn't know why she would do this, since she never did.
Okay, one week after, this Wednesday, it was time for their class again and, when she arrived, i told her to come to my desk and asked her: "what is furthermore?" She went pale when she noticed the paper in my hands. I asked again: "darling, what is furthermore?" Then, she shuttered: "I don't know, teacher. I'm sorry, I had to ask Gemini because I had no time..." then I sat her down, she was clearly upset (she is just 13) and I asked her what happened. "I didn't have any time left because of my exams and there were too many units to go through. So I asked my mom to help me and she told me to use ChatGPT but I asked google instead." Okay. So I looked into her eyes and told her it was okay, that she didn't need to be upset, but she would have to re-do that paper and bring it back to me by the next week. I told her she didn't need google or gpt to do her work, because she got a very high score at her english exam (both at school and at the course). She got right back on her feet and we started class as normal.
The only reason why I'm telling you this is because I hate AI. I hate it SO much. But, as a teacher now, I hate ANYTHING that takes the learning process away from kids. I hate the GLOSSARY in my kids' books as well for the same reason bc they don't want to figure the words out with me, they want to check the answer as fast as they can to get rid of that boring thing and I don't blame them for wanting to get rid of the boring task! But I blame ADULTS for allowing the kids to go the fast way, when they need the slow process to learn something! Her MOM told her to use ChatGPT to ace her homework. You know, the person PAYING the course bills so her daughter can learn english at an early age doesn't care about her learning process. But I do. I care. And you should care too. It's not my student's fault, it's about the learned helplessness, it's about wanting to be the fastest, it's about the knowledge scrapping, the way nobody cares anymore. And the kids are being affected by parents who don't care anymore. They're byproducts of this. So please, when teaching them why AI is bad, be gentle. It's not their fault the world around them is teaching them how to be dumb in a smart, sneaky way.
somethign abt 'darling what is furthermore' is rly getting to me
