The Birth of ModelMob.

It's a perfect summer day in June 2014, I'm sitting on a train with my friend, travelling from sunny Barcelona, Spain to an even sunnier Stiges, Spain. As I’m surrounded by overwhelming beauty, I can’t help but feel a swell of gratitude for the events that brought me here: a month earlier I had been dumped. The man who I thought I was the love of my life, left me and for the first time in almost three years, I was alone. Heartbroken, I did the only thing I could think to do - I ran. I'd been a working model in Toronto for almost ten years and I had put off plans to travel and work abroad for my relationship. But now, there was nothing holding me back. So I quit my day job and jumped on a plane.
As I sat on that train, in what seemed like a perfect moment - sun in my eyes and freedom in my mind - I somehow found myself complaining. It was the same way I'd heard every other model I'd met complain about how frustrating it is to work in this industry. About how waiting to be paid for months has me living on ramen noodles. How I'm sick and tired of dealing with creepy, unprofessional “fauxTographers.” How there are so many modelling jobs out there that aren't just for agency models yet I still have to wait for my agency to find me work...That's when my friend cut me off. “What do u mean?!” He said, "Isn't there an app for that? It's 2014! You should be able to do that on your own.” That’s when it hit me. I had a true “aha" moment. “There isn’t an app like that,” I said, “but you're right, we should be able to do that on our own!” And that was the beginning of the end of the complaining.
My frustrations had turned into an idea and my friend had become a business partner. They say that victory loves preparation and this time they were right. For two years, we worked. We dedicated all of our time and money to our little idea. We spent countless hours researching and planning and through a lot of blood, sweat and tears (mostly sweat and tears) and our idea had grown into something worth sharing.
Ladies and gentlemen, we proudly present: ModelMob.
2016 has ushered in a new era in the modelling industry. You no longer have to be six feet tall and rail thin to find work. We are now seeing beautiful models of all shapes and sizes gracing the covers of highly respected magazines and landing huge spokesmodel contracts. From the look of Gigi Hadid to Cara Delevingne to Ashley Graham, there is work out there for everyone. And ModelMob will help to further promote this new found ideal.
ModelMob is an on demand model booking app that connects models to clients. We aim to streamline the process of booking jobs and hiring models by putting it directly into the hands of the models and clients. No more middle man BS. It’s pretty simple actually; models set-up profiles and can apply for jobs created by clients. For the first time clients and models can review each other, communicate via our real time in app messenger, and most importantly get paid directly 24 hours after the job is complete. Simple. Safe. Transparent.
